UTG: stats 24/11 50/33/33 (AFrequency f/t/r) over 50 hands, haven’t seen him get out of line, he’s appeared too tight (although sample size), had only a 17% WtSD (2 hands shown down), he’s showed down only the nuts or near-nuts
HJ is the village idiot, playing 65+% of everything and generally less aggressive than Ghandi.
BTN: stats 30/24 over 80 hands, never overlimps, only PF play that's not a raise is either a fold or a call from the blinds.

iPoker Network – Fixed limit - .50/1 stakes – 6 players

Preflop: Hero is the SB with 6 7
UTG calls, HJ calls, CO folds, BTN raises, Hero calls, BB folds, UTG calls, HJ calls.

Should I have called here? I’m OOP, but BTN is positionally aware, so looser OTB, and I haven’t seen him limp preflop once, raising or 3-betting 100% of the hands he played.

Flop: 4 5 8 (Pot: 9 SB, 4 players)
Hero bets, UTG raises, HJ calls, BTN folds, Hero 3-bets, UTG caps, HJ calls.

I donk and 3-bet for value, but UTG shows more aggression than I’ve seen him show since I’ve had him at the table. I’m seriously considering the possibility of a flopped set. I see little else limping UTG and going nuts on this flop.

Turn: J (Pot: 10.5 BB, 3 players)
Hero checks, UTG bets, HJ folds, Hero raises, UTG calls.

After him capping the flop, a c/r was the way to get the most value imo.

River: J (Pot: 14.5 BB, 2 players)
Hero checks ???, UTG bets, Hero calls.

I had convinced myself he held a set after the flop, so I figured he made his boat now. I really feel a bet/call should’ve been the play here. But what else could he have that goes nuts on the flop like that? MUBS check…

Was preflop a mistake? How horrible was the river?

just bet/3bet turn, if it is capped by utg, you can probably c/c river as you're either beat or choping.

the way you played out turn, you have to bet/call river. putting in 3bb on turn/river with nut straight on a paired board with no flush draws is just weak. actually river c/r might also be good.

I think preflop is borderline ok. Two limpers and a raise means two weakish hands + a decent/good one. You often get BB to join too and a raise from behind is iffy, which would give you ~8.5:1.5 i.e. ~5.5:1 odds.

I like it flop and turn. You are more likely to trap HJ for one or two bets with a c/r than with a donk.

I bet/call river. Two pairs just got counterfeited and he seems decent enough to notice so he could check some of them behind you.

Preflop is VERY ok. You have one not so great player in and one very bad player in.

If BB calls you get 8.5:1.5 ~ 5.7:1

If he folds you get 5:1

If he 3-bets and rest calls you get 12.5:2.5 ~ 5:1

Your odds are just too good. In general when getting 5:1 or better you absolutely have to consider calling just about anything playable. In particular if bad players have entered the pot and if you hand has "big hand" potential. I would also call 74s in this spot if the rake was lower. In a high rake game I'd prolly fold 74s but play 75s

Good players calls loosely in the blinds when bad players are in the pot
