For a US based website, you can either (a) go unmoderated, like 4chan, and have almost no liability for the content, or (b) have moderation, and assume significant liability for content. The commitment isn't taking moderation actions... which you are correct, should not be significant. The commitment is simply reading all that crap we post... which is significant.

Also, it's completely reasonable for kurto not to want to shoulder all the decision making (little that it might be), and abuse (like this thread), that comes with the non-payed position.

I mean no way does any moderator of even a moderate traffic subform read even close to everything in their forums. You think Wookie and Tom read all of politics? They rely on the post report button.

If kurto can't handle the laughable workload of PU then he should also be removed and replaced.

I offered originally to be mod with Kurto precisely on the premise that I wouldn't do anything except for spam and gross racist attacks.

Sadly, PU went the way of Politics Chained. Which is especially funny given the level of racism allowed in SMP.

If you remember, Mat Sklansky singled kurto out, invited him to mod, or else he was going to close Baja Politards. No kurto as mod == close Baja Politards.

That being said, there's a lot of talk about the moderation of this forum and very little actual content. So the moderation discussion doesn't seem super relevant.

We'll see if anybody that's complained about moderation (or lack of moderation like being called racist) stifling their discussion in Politics actually PMs me about having a thread here in PU where they can talk about their issue in complete control of how it gets modded.

Not clear why one poster who apparently doesn't have time to do anything and another poster whose posts are consistently gibberish are the only two acceptable PU moderators to Mat. I suspect they are in fact not the only two acceptable mods.

i suspect there are reasons for it, but mat doesn't seem to like to take action that undoes previous actions he's taken

1) He took too long to ban someone
2) He hasn't taken criticism about #1 very well but hasn't actually done anything

I'm with pvn in that I don't care about his moderation decisions but am tired of scrolling past his whiny defensive gibberish. The PU mod shouldn't have 900 posts in the "who are the bad posters" thread. And preferably any mod on this site should be able to write comprehensibly in a majority of his posts. Maybe even a large majority!

You know, if you just condense everything he's done down even further, you can have a list of one, which seems even less of a big deal

Over in ATF I claimed capitalism is the main cause of racism today. If I wanted to do an OP on that topic, I would 100% jump on this offer... conversely outside of that offer I would be very hesitant to do that OP.

I suppose it is logically possible for a mod to have 900 posts in that thread that are on the whole good, but I doubt it would ever actually happen. And it is particularly telling that like about 200 of his posts in that thread were made before he became a mod and 700 were made since he became a mod about six months ago. The last thing you want to do as a mod is make it all about you, and that's what spank has done.

He flipped out, threatened to ban all of his critics, went on a week-long rampage of incoherent rambling, and now is whining about "bullying" like a teenage girl. Honest to blog, if he would just **** the **** up for a while, things would probably simmer down.
