Good job. Good effort.
A few billion dollars would be on the prix fix menu, the US did a la carte and estimates project that the eventual cost at the end 5-8 trillion total. I'm not even sure that amount of money physically exists. But yeah, they got Bin Laden and made Iraq a safe, democratic place (by S.C republican standards) so good value for money.

In part, no doubt, some vague idea about a better future, but chiefly the atavistic emotion of patriotism, the ingrained feeling of the English-speaking peoples that they are superior to foreigners. For the last twenty years the main object of English left-wing intellectuals has been to break this feeling down, and if they had succeeded, we might be watching the S.S. men patrolling the London streets at this moment.

Similarly, why are the Russians fighting like tigers against the German invasion? The energy that actually shapes the world springs from emotions — racial pride, leader-worship, religious belief, love of war — which liberal intellectuals mechanically write off as anachronisms, and which they have usually destroyed so completely in themselves as to have lost all power of action….
Just lol @ the mentality of someone that copy and pastes a George Orwell essay from 1941 without crediting the author, and thinks it's somehow relevant to 2013.

Wouldn't be better if PC wouldn't exsist at all and racist like ZNGA could say whatever they wanted IRL?
PC is just safe haven for all the racist and one of the biggest threats to our society. It should be banned by the law.
Imo people should be encoureged to say what they think no matter how bad it is.

You're not from a minority then.
08-06-2013 , 09:07 AM
PC doesn't do good to any minorities imo..... infact it makes things even worse for them.
People pretending that they will help or that they have nothing against you or somebody else, is a lot worse than people saying what they really think...

Nixon brought our boys home. I suppose he did invade Cambodia first.

Rich states vote disproportionately Democratic but rich people vote disproportionately Republican, c.f. Andrew Gelman.

You're a complete half wit (wait, what) who fails to hold back his own bigoted idiocy often enough that we know how you feel. You don't have a ****ing clue what "PC" is- and as a result you just suggested that making an attempt to not use needlessly insulting language should be illegal.

Political correctness is not about limiting expression, it's about asking people to consider what they're saying, why they're saying it and the impact it has on other people. No freedoms are lost when somebody opts to use a gender neutral pronoun.

The only people for whom it limits expression are those people so muddleheaded and limited that they don't posses non-hateful ways to describe people unlike themselves. Those people are a complete negative for a society that moves forward in large part through dialog and attempts to build consensus.

No, language has power and the elimination from polite conversation of racist terms says much of our goals as a society that people be treated equally and without prejudice.

It's way easier to hate a group for which you have a contemptuous label, rather than be constantly reminded that, in fact, our similarities way outweigh our differences.

PC is a good thing - it helps us identify the unreconstructed racists and subject them to appropriate opprobrium, whilst removing the power that their words of hate hold for this and future generations.

I had a feeling this was stolen... He posted it awfully fast.

But I was thinking it was more misguided than irrelevant.

so, just to review, so far we've got...
  • butthurt the hippies
  • "beat the Rooskies"
  • strengthening the MIC
  • deregulation
  • keep taxes in check
  • fight against the "fund (for) free watermelon and collard greens programs"
  • needed cynicism
  • uphold traditions and social norms
  • promote incentive
  • vetting reform ideas
  • found Saddam's WMDs
  • "exited" Vietnam (through Laos, Cambodia and Thailand)
  • maintaining the fight against progressive PC

seem right? ... anything I missed? got wrong? anything else to add? ... ... There's gotta be more we're all collectively forgetting.

If not, and that's the extent of it: Are our contingent of conservatives here proud of this list of accomplishments?

I'm thinking of creating some kind of counter thread. Maybe "what detriments has conservatism ever saddled on our country?"

Or, maybe just to be kind: "what has progressivism ever accomplished for our country?"

But I'll give it a few more days. ...

These are the sorts of accomplishments you get rewarded for when you're 8. Like 'well done, you didn't wet the bed today' or 'good boy, you helped clean up' (by smashing a couple of plates and getting food everywhere).

By what metric can Nixon be even remotely considered conservitive?
