"my appreciation for certain aspects of socialism does not mean I'm a socialist"
(in Marxist theory) a transitional social state between the overthrow of capitalism and the realization of communism.
adjective
adjective: totalitarian
1.
relating to a system of government that is centralized and dictatorial and requires complete subservience to the state.
National Socialism was the racially motivated offspring of Marxism. Communists controlled half the Reichstag in the years before Hitler came to power, and part of Hitlers political genius was incorporating elements of Marxism and Fascism and fusing them with racialist ideas into Nazism. This gave a right appearing movement appeal to even the most vehement communists, and the Nazi party did enjoy wide swaths of support within Germany as a result.
Socialism, by definition, is government control of the means of production. The Nazi party had almost total say over what, where and how things were made in Germany. They were German industries biggest customer, per se. There are major differences between German National Socialism and Soviet Socialism, as well as Democratic Socialism ala Bernie Sanders (socialism lite), but they're all in the same family, and they're all totalitarian because they trade individual rights for communal goals and ideals, which are propagated by a large, centralized government.
