I am sure it has been pointed out to you several times that if the best athletes in the US played soccer(futbol) and took soccer as serious as other countries, we without a doubt would be #1 in the world ainec. Our best athletes are playing football, basketball, and baseball.
Just see our woman's team for proof of that. Other than more specialized sports like golf and tennis, women really only have two options for sports post college, which are basketball and soccer. A good portion of our best woman athletes play soccer and we are the #1 ranked women's team in the world as a result.
Just imagine if Lebron James played soccer as a 6'9" forward with his speed and athletic ability! He would be dominant in the air. Take some of our basketball players, our running backs and defensive backs in the NFL, and add a few top notch baseball players, and start them at age 5 in soccer. Then have them pretty much only play soccer growing up, like most players from other countries, and we would be #1 in the world in men's soccer as well.
All in all we are not doing too bad with our fringe athletes, in a sport most in the US could care less about, by at least competing on the national level and qualifying for the World Cup and Olympics most of the time now. How is your Football, Baseball, and Basketball team doing nationally?
It is so funny to have other soccer dominant countries try to criticize USA soccer. Shows a real lack of knowledge as to the reasons why our team is what it is.
