I just can't really imagine showing another adult the type of crap you post without being embarrassed.
If there are any posts that would cause him a problem, DIB probably would be most concerned if his wife read the non-politics posts that he writes about her. I'm surprised that someone from team #dudeliterally didn't try to trainwreck him over those.

You just need to avoid being results-oriented in evaluating ways to mod a forum.

I am curious about this.

I think that being results oriented is the only way to go. Not that a particular sub-forum rises to the importance of a house, but I think that being idealistic about roofing and flooring materials is a bit odd of a stance to take.

That would require someone somewhere to give half a **** about #dudebitterly, which clearly no one does.

But I'm sure his cardboard cutout mail order bride cares, now that he attached those googly eyes

Given a sufficiently mentally defective group of morons, there is no set of rules that mods can enforce to make those people create and participate in good threads that doesn't involve handing out a lot of bans. I don't really want to ban almost everyone and turn P/PU into a ghost town, so I'm not going to evaluate modding based on how well it creates good threads worth participating in.

You and I both act a bit like morons given the correct environment. Otherwise, we don't.

Your "I don't really want" is entirely results oriented.

Something something something about games being the utilitarian equivalent of food if that is what people like something something something

+1.

I don't understand why you wouldn't be results oriented.

So you think JJ made a mistake banning personal attacks on non-PUers?

It depends on what results you would be looking for. If what you want is maximizing personal attacks, it would clearly be a mistake.

Musings...
  • I would still like to see if the current wave of frivolous/stupid self-mod threads is a short lived novelty. However since it seems a "no name-calling the excluded" rule seems likely to pass a vote... I don't think such a rule is the best way to solve this problem.

I believe implementing the previously proposed "gotta PM first with a plan" policy would be a better choice. Consider: it's pretty much impossible to come up with an objective list of rules for all the different ways self-modded threads would be considered frivolous y/o stupid. The mod in charge is going to have to make a subjective call anyways... why get bogged down in a pointless effort of "constitution writing".

  • Perhaps an OP excluding other posters was a bridge too far. Just allowing the OP to ask for individual posts to be removed is really the core idea behind self-modded threads... in my opinion at least.

  • I don't see any reason to allow the name-calling of non Politards here in Baja. But all Politards, even if they only post in Alta, and studiously avoid posting in Baja... should be fair game.

If somebody wants to mod their own thread they'll have to PM me and I won't allow them for threads that are just for the purpose of attacking other people. They'll have to be issue based and at least some what relevant to politics.

This is mostly out of me having no desire to waste time on threads like "This is the thread for just me to post in, ha ha ha".

The outcome of this poll will still be relevant for threads that are self modded, but I think a lot of the problems will be solved just by requiring people to put effort into a thread they want to self-mod and having it focus on an actual issue.

I haven't decided anything for sure, but that's what I'm leaning towards right now.

What about posters in other forums who post about political topics?

What about them?

BTW: I don't consider stuff like the outing of BruceZ to be name-calling, etc. I believe we should be able to critique referenced content here posted in other forums. But just context-less stuff like "BruceZ sucks !!!1!" don't serve any purpose... IMO.

And besides... do we really wanna make Baja the go to place for non-Politard idiots to "step outside" their regular hell-holes and name-call each other at? We'd be overrun by those hot heads over in Small Stakes Follow the Queen... for goodness sake.

Yeah, I'm officially going back to the only threads that are self-modded are ones that have been cleared with me first.

I believe that right now that means the only threads that are OP modding are AsianNit's and Jiggs.

Go forth and call each other mean names! And stop reporting posts. Last night was a bad time to start trying out the new gmail Inbox.

Edit: DiB did actually pm me about his thread, but I'm rescinding his permission because clearly it's a pain in the ass for me and I think it ended poorly.

JJ- can the unchained life thread be grandfathered in please?
11-07-2014 , 03:18 PM
Sorry I forgot about it, yeah that one's fine too.
11-07-2014 , 03:30 PM
No problem.

I do enjoy some of the humor behind the recent spawning of exclusion threads. They are not all worth wringing a wet towel over. So are they going to be locked or just have the exclusion rules suspended?
11-07-2014 , 03:32 PM
Exclusion rules suspended.

Personally, I still wouldn't post in a thread that someone doesn't want me posting in. But I get that's not everyone's thing.

VICTORY
11-07-2014 , 03:50 PM
Victory: Whining and crying to daddy for 48 hours in order to gain access to threads where your presence is explicitly NOT desired.

Congrats bro!
11-07-2014 , 03:59 PM
Yeah, it is pretty bad when you come out looking sadder than the guy who started a thread just to trash talk people without them being able to respond.

LMAO

"No name calling... Unless I agree with it."

Are you a Wookie gimmick?

If PU is to be so heavily moderated that we have "OP moderated" threads, which aren't even allowed in Politics Alpha, what is the point of having two forums?
