You can lose a lot of weight with cholera, tho. Might be just what our fat asses need.

My point is our priorities are way out of line, and we devote waaaay too much of our thought process towards it. It is cult like obsession.

But we like have to save the planet for our kids and our kids kids, but forget about all the kids dying worldwide right now from easily preventable vitamin deficiencies and diseases.......Lets go ahead and throw a few more hundred billion towards the AGW "problem"
03-02-2014 , 05:51 PM
well heck, if we raised taxes we could do both! save the planet so our kids' kids could live, and save the kids who are alive now

I support your plan to raise taxes!

They already spend hundreds of billions on AGW. Complete wast of money.

Not sure why anyone would advocate or be interested in having more money go to the government. Kind of weird if you ask me.
03-02-2014 , 06:29 PM
Yeah, very weird of you to suggest it.

Nope. 2013, spending on climate change was about $22b, or about half of a percent of overall federal spending.

As I've stated repeatedly on these forums I support federal spending on climate research. It will take time for climate models to improve. I am absolutely positive in 50 years or less climate models will show a lot of improvement . Given the pace if technological advancement I think we're likely to see much better predictions a lot sooner than later.

Cost to the economy is not only measured in fed govt money spent. Money wasted on do nothing programs is money wasted. Are ethanol subsidies effective in combatting climate change? How about CAFE standards?

Those are fair enough points. I was rebutting Silver_Man's argument that our priorities are out of whack and that we spend hundreds of billions on climate change when we could be helping sick kids in third world countries. In reality, we spent ~$22b on climate change and ~$23b on foreign aid (non-military) last year.

My real error was that I bothered to try and argue with Silver_Man, though... a true do-nothing program.

Climate change isn't going to be even on the radar of our problems when the alien invasion comes. We can worry about the planet after we fight them off.

High sea temperatures threaten the survival of coral reefs, which generate an estimated $375 billion per year in goods and services.

You all are ridiculous to worry about climate change and alien invasions when big-foot and the loch ness monster have been reproducing for the past 100 years and their offspring are waiting for the right time to take over the world. The chances of their offspring taking over are 100x more likely to happen that either one of your scenarios.

Plus, according to a recent Harvard study there is also a good chance that every single volcano in the world will erupt at the same time if we don't start littering more and recycling less. The study showed the increase in volcanic activity as we've been spending more and more money on cleaning up the litter. If all the earth's volcanoes erupt at the same time the study claimed that, "States will fail, large populations subjected to famine, flood or disease will migrate across international borders, and national and international agencies will not have the resources to cope." I don't think this is fear mongering it sounds like really serious stuff.

These things are all just different elements of the impending alien invasion.

Bigfoot and the Loch Ness monster will both be extinct thanks to climate change.

Not saying 1 year and I'm not saying in just the USA.

Americans spend 50 billion on their pets each year. Why do they hate African children?
03-04-2014 , 12:55 AM
Feed them the pets imo.

I love African children. I just don't love them as much as I love my cat.

Except spending money on pets is voluntary...

Spending on global warming is forced from us...although it is just another avenue to get more money from us and enrich theirs and other's close to them.

Don't be fooled by Africa. It doesn't exist. The aliens eradicated it in 1970 while we were distracted with Vietnam and replaced it with holograms.

I'm sure in silverbug's mind, gravity is just a conspiracy invented by the jews to get all our pocket change

Don't give anything to the government - live the government-free dream like in Somalia.

Like I said, Africa is all holograms. Somalia is a trick to lead us away from embracing the wonders of Anarcho Capitalism. It's easier for the aliens to control us if we have a more centralized government.

But you seem to think it's okay to spend other people's money on starving or sick children, right?
