Isn't society better off if the guilty plead out?

And I don't mean that to sound flippant. I mean, save everyone some trouble, save some money here.

Yeah, I didn't express myself clearly, what concerns me is the laywers will have a financial incentive to get people to plead guilty, whether they are or not. I'm sure a shyster type (and I obv don't mean all lawyers here) will be able to persuade anyone who doesn't know the system (and the people that know the system will be the criminal types!) that pleading guilty is the fastest way to get it all over with, the judge will probably give them a suspended sentence etc etc, and they won't know any better. Or have any ability to change that lawyer without playing a lot.

Lawyers are raging about it too. The pay being offered is very low so most of the police station work will end up being done by non-qualified representatives. Will probably lead to more miscarriages of justice.

UKIP the leadership probably isnt racist. Xenophobic, short sighted, willfully ignorant and generally wrong - sure - but I dont think there is enough evidence that they are a "racist party".

Solid thread

Griffin's BNP have hit the BBJ with this Woolwich thing. They are so emboldened by the rise in fear that they are calling for every British Muslim (including white converts) to be 'forcibly resettled'. They were at death's door a few months ago with mass resignations and near bankruptcy, I'm guessing they are going to have a solid resurgence. Wonder if calling for ethnic cleansing is illegal?
05-26-2013 , 01:23 PM
The BNP will make noise for a little while but it wont come to anything. It never does.

And while calling for an ethnic cleanse could be covered by the law, I suspect the BNP know the law well enough to find the loopholes.

I hope you're right and that we aren't about to see a repeat of the 80s

The last time Griffin was in front of a jury it was all-white and from Yorkshire.

Of course but can it be done without the innocent being pressurised to plead out.

We dont want to end up like the US. Innocent until prosecuted.

BNP-Antifa London Derby, Antifa 58, BNP 0. Arrests, that is.

Quote:
Some 58 people have been arrested in London after BNP supporters and anti-fascist campaigners came to blows outside the Palace of Westminster.

Scotland Yard said those arrested were members of the United Against Facism protest, and were held for suspected public order offences.

So the UK is stealing Canada's Banking head. Is this a big Deal in the UK ?
06-03-2013 , 03:39 PM
Nope, the average person wouldn't be able to tell you the name of his predecessor (Sir Mervyn King) or identify him in a line-up. The head of the Bank of England (as far as Joe Public is concerned) usually makes some statement about how bad our economy is at the moment or how much of a joke the regulations we have are, these statements are then reported on by the BBC and forgotten the next day.

Mervyn? His name is Mervyn?
06-03-2013 , 04:31 PM
He looks like Penfold from Danger Mouse

Sir Mervyn King... The last being his name and not a job description, lest our American cousins worry that Lizzie has snuffed it or we've acquired a new one somehow.

Most can handle King as a last name. In fact, it's probably more common as a name than a title (especially in 'murica.) King as a first name otoh....

Sorry that was a line from a movie.

We don't have 'movies' here, sorry.

I can't believe this thread has this many posts.

Though if it's going to turn into a Dangermouse discussion, I'm on board.

Racist ban IMO.

So does no one give a crap about Tony Blair anymore or was his comment just more of the same; hand wave-nothing to see here? (I did manage to move 7 or 8 of his books in the bookstore to the True Crime section when they landed)

Trust me if given the power he will make changes. He did a great job here banks and regulations are not a bad thing. Americans would disagree but their banks are doing just fine
