Anyway, he's awful. Creates posts where he thinks he's making some clever insight, but is actually regurgitating a Randian position only slightly meatier than "Yo! Capitalism is the unknown ideal, dig it!". Then sticks his head in the sand and ignores all the points made against his idealized position which would fail in the real world, or whatever the inevitable failure happens to be with his "logic". Then dismisses all responses as butthurt or something, and learns nothing in the end. Rinse. Repeat.
His fallacy factory while posing as a deep-thinking intellectual annoys me more than posters who just post bad due to partisan entrenchment and are easily dismissed. But taste varies.
This comes across as if you'd read the post I posts I've made in this thread and like, one other. Like I don't think I've ever tried to blame anything on butthurt except indirectly in this thread. And few of my posts could be construed as a supporting a "Randian" idea.
What usually happens is that I'll start a thread tossing about some idea, not necessarily one that I think is rock solid. Often I might only half-agree with it at most and am just interested in seeing what arguments people can come up to refute it. A lot of the time, though, all of the arguments people post really suck. They'll just be trivial nittery, the equivalent of replying to the famous trolley problem by saying "but but being put into a situation where a lever can change things is extremely unlikely to happen in the REAL WORLD" then high five each other that they sure how showed that dumbass Nichlemn fails to understand how things REALLY WORK. Maybe my posts really do suck, but I'll posit that the people trying to reply to them suck even more.
The main reason I think ideology has a ton to do with it, is that I used to make tons of criticisms of ACism and a lot of liberals used to applaud it. Then later, I started using the exact same methods to attack liberal ideas, and suddenly it was all faux-intellectualism and fallacious and what not. It's utterly transparent that the ideology drives the disparity.
If we're going after "faux intellectualism", I'm going to nominate Phone Booth. (Disclaimer: possible butthurt). A ton of his posts are just "You propose changing the status quo, but if your proposal was better, it would already be the status quo, QED" or long essays on human psychology which sound smart but are really just **** he made up that is one big long [citation needed].
Also notable are his passive aggressive personal attacks like "What are the causes of autistic thought patterns? My theory runs as follows..."
