I'll let the nominations go for a week or so and then set up a sweet 16 bracket, using the nominations and random numbers to generate seeds.


As a note, votes for Trolly McTrollson or The REAL Trolly will count as Trolly McTrollson, votes for Shame Trolly and MissileDog will go to MissileDog. Also, chimpstare is out of the running, because he is clearly the best PU poster.

Could an argument be made that if a poster and one of their well known gimmicks both get nominated by the same person that it should count twice? Like, if the nominator didn't know they were nominating you and your gimmick, then that speaks extra poorly of the poster IMO.

A more interesting scenario is what happens when a poster gets seeded very high but their gimmick is so good it's declared off limits.

I'd say immunity is granted.

I'll have to think about that. MissileDog is on the bubble, so that may be a factor. OTOH, one of MissileDog's alts is completely awesome, so he may get immunity beads. Plus, his doggy was a very good doggy, so I have to take that into consideration.

It appears Anais (that's Low Key, right?) just copy and pasted the "Who posted?" list from the Bad Politics Posters thread. Others have copied sections of it with some alterations. I think that's not such a bad method actually, though I'd perhaps weight it against posts in Alpha. Like ikes is the #1 poster in that thread, but he's the #1 poster in lots of threads. I think AlexM or Dids, on the hand, seem to post (proportionally) way more about why other posters are bad than they make regular posts. Maybe TheDuker could test this out.

But really, the whole exercise of naming "bad politics posters" (including when I do it) is 90% butthurt at someone you disagreed with. That's not to say you can't differentiate between different degrees of badness for people of similar ideologies, but there's just no way anyone is unbiased enough to fairly rank people who have have different levels of disagreement. It's human nature to want to like people who agree with you, dislike those who don't, gloss over the errors of the former and search hard for perceived errors made by the latter.

I'm going to do it anyway:

Nichlemn - all the cool kids nominate themselves to show how "self-aware" they are.

MissileDog/Shame Trolly - baffling

steelhouse - see above, with even less conversation

FlyWf - all the usual complaints, plus butthurt

Riverman - zero content, abrasive, plus butthurt obv

zikzak, JayTeeMe - not actually bad, but staying above the fray by not actually taking strong positions on anything shouldn't be a ticket to avoiding the wrath of butthurt

Dids, AlexM - see first paragraph, I can't remember them ever saying anything that wasn't a whine about another poster

(Oh and by the way, this thread's kind of redundant. ikes versus Deuces (a very likely final match-up) was already polled and Deuces "won".)

The whole "bad poster" thing is basically bull****. As used, it basically means anyone who fundamentally disagrees with you.

It's probably because I made the exact same joke nearly six years ago.
