Is Heenan consider by most to be the GOAT commentator? I've always thought Ventura was better.

I think the majority have them as 1a and 1b.

I would take Ventura over Heenan myself, but I don't bat an eye at others putting Heenan at #1.

I'd probably compare Graves more to Ventura anyway. Heenan was a liar who made you laugh. Jesse and Corey basically just take up for the heels by telling the truth.

As much as I hate to say it Heenan was bad in wcw. Maybe not objectively bad but certainly nowhere near the goat he established himself as while at wwf.

I don't recall Ventura having any down periods like that but I could
Be wrong

I feel like Jesse WCW was either = or < Heenan WCW. Either way, Monsoon seemed to elevate them both. Schiavone was just mailing it in for a good chunk of the late 90's on.

Heenan is the proud owner of the WOAT call during the Hulk Hogan heel turn.

BUT WHO'S SIDE IS HE ON?!?!?!

I see people hate on this all the time, and I think they're wrong. Heenan always hated Hogan, and always accused Hogan of doing heel things. The call is completely in character with Hennan's views towards Hogan. If Schiavone had made the call it would suck, but it's really not that bad coming from Hennan.

This is exactly what I thought back then and was going to say.

While I can see the justification for the call, I'd still have preferred that Heenan never said it.

They've been doing a pretty good job with making presplit afterthoughts/callups have more substance.

Heath went from a jobber stable and not getting drafted to having a good FA gimmick into I GOT KIDS into tag champs into a story with Ryno.

Corbin was barely on TV and has now provided a pretty solid feud with Kalisto I think. The chairs match was shockingly good. He's kind of in no mans land right now with the titles being occupied by heels (across the board!) and the show having very few faces to fight for them. I was really hoping for a sami/corbin swap even though I enjoyed the payoff to the sami thing and think the build vs stroman has actually been pretty solid.

Alexa was called up and has done some pretty good work despite starting off a bit rough. Now she's champ and had a good segment there.

Miz and Dolph have gotten resurgences after the split when both were kind of just there pre split.

Ryder, Fandango, and Breeze are getting on tv most weeks with actual matches and even some segments backstage here and there.

I really hope theres no huge shakeups for a while. I'd really like to see where they all develop in the next year. They've all been elevated so far.

I hate to say it but AJ Styles badly needs to be a face on that roster.

I think Miz was already in good shape pre-split, but would agree that he has reached a new level post-split.

Oh, I didn't even mention the Wyatts and Orton actually being really good too. The only person that really got the short end was Crews.

And yeah, with Orton turning and Cena trying to become the Rock we really need face AJ. He's already getting a lot of cheers though, so shouldn't be too hard to do. Though he's been great as a comedic heel that people take seriously in the ring.

Miz has been absolutely fantastic ever since Maryse reappeared to slap Zach Ryder's dad and show us that The Miz actually is that much better at life than the rest of us. SD has simply given him more time to be the focal point.

oh yeah, you're both right. had forgotten about the miz's stuff between mania and split for some reason

I think Baron Corbin is all kinds of boring myself. I can't fault their attempted booking of him, but damn if I don't tune out when he comes on.

Even only watching the end of the main Survivor Series match, Orton managed to make him saving Wyatt the most intriguing thing on the entire ppv and now just reading about it, it seems like a really fun and good storyline. Randy has spoken out in some interview within the past few days about wanting to change his gear to match Bray and fam and also his moveset since he hasn't altered either in over a decade now.
