NJPW applied for the trademark back in June 2015.

EDIT: This article from January claims that WWE bought a license to the Bullet Club name and the NJPW is now using the word Elite to refer to the Bullet Club. I don't watch NJPW regularly, so I have no idea if that is true.

That article is wrong. The Bullet Club is still very much a thing in Japan and they just added Adam Cole and Adam Page as members.

The Elite is just Omega and the Bucks but they're still part of Bullet Club. Think Wolfpac.

I imagine using the word "bullet" doesn't fit in with PG-era marketing, so they just bought it so no one else could have it, and will go with something more PC

WWE don't own the name. The above pic of them selling BC merch is from yesterday. WWE wouldn't let anyone outside of the company sell and get a cut of their merch, especially the Young Bucks.

The one angle they've actually put several thoughtful months into came to a culmination on Smackdown tonight and I actually like how it ended. Could be an interesting new addition to the tag team ranks.
