This person is correct. This is SO much better than any of the cartoonish bullshit that you would see in sells of the Stunner. Looking at you, Rock. And Vince.

I will forever wonder why people think of Rock's selling of the stunner as anything more than garbage. 99% of people think he's the GOAT seller of it and no.

Yeah, I've definitely always hated the way Rocky took it, it was the worst part of Rock-Austin quite easily. There's room for flippy **** in bumping - I always enjoyed the way Rikishi would take a big clothesline - but the Stunner isn't a place for it. That's a move that, in kayfabe, is supposed to break your ****ing jaw.

This clip that TLF alerted me to is pretty incredible.

LOL, I can't even begin to guess what he might have been asking.

Rock's selling looks like what HBK might have done if he was mocking Austin (like he did in the Hogan oversell match).

It sure is great that Vince quickly canceled this show because he got disturbed by the fact that it might be too compelling.

Finally watched the Ric Flair documentary. Enjoyed a lot, but my brother in the Lord, please stop drinking before your liver completely taps out. Didn’t hear the word “alcoholic” once even though that’s 100% the case.

Flair is certainly all kinds of lucky to have not kicked the bucket yet. I love Flair for all he has given us, but it will be very difficult to sympathize if he runs himself into another major hospitalization or worse anytime soon.

Ric just wants to die in the ring and doesn’t understand why there’s anything wrong with that.

Yeah, I can sympathize with the notion that it must be a rough transition for some when the bright lights and the cheering go away when it's all they've known for a long while, but it's absolutely pathological with Flair. He cannot stand being anything but the over-the-top wrestling persona getting maximum attention.

There are wrestlers I think I'd really enjoy meeting and others I really wouldn't, and Flair seems like he falls squarely in the latter category. As much as Bret Hart comes off as a self-serious stick in the mud, I'd far rather engage in a conversation with him.

I confess to having more respect and compassion for those who at least attempt to fight their demons and get clean—even with repeated relapses (am thinking Chyna and Scott Hall). Flair OTOH seems determined to die this way.

If I see Tom Prichard offering an opinion, my immediate reaction is, "You were Zip. Your opinion is invalid."

And yet he's the Prichard I respect more.

I had forgotten just how hard WWF leaned into putting all of their resources into pushing No Holds Barred in 1989. Seems like they couldn’t go a segment without talking about it. The Genius comes out for a squash and reads a poem that compliments the movie even though he was a heel.

And then Vince still took a bath on his investment in that movie. Surprising, honestly, that Hogan was able to keep such a prolific B-movie career going after that.

I absolutely love Jack explaining "'how are you doing' is a pleasantry, you don't have to actually answer the question," then Lapsed Andre just pausing and then continuing his answer as if that interjection didn't happen.

Has anyone rewatched No Holds Barred recently? Seems like it would be a good time.

Don't think I've ever actually seen it. Just the OSW Review episode, which was hilarious.

I feel like I rewatched it at some point in the past 10 years. I was not entertained on any level, except maybe by Kurt Fuller's character trying to make "jockass" happen by repeatedly using that as an insult.

I always felt let down that Brutus Beefcake would carry those big hedge clippers to the ring for a jobber squash and then, upon victory, would just pull out these tiny-ass scissors to cut a little bit of their hair.

He did cut a long braid off of Sherri with the big hedge clippers at SummerSlam’89, at least.

So in no holds barred is pro wrestling treated as a legitimate athletic competition?

Yeah, I'm really fuzzy on how it all goes, but to the best of my recollection: Zeus beats up Rip's brother to the point of hospitalization, and then the movie culminates in what seems like a match to the death between Rip and Zeus. And I believe Zeus dies. And then wrestles in the main event of SummerSlam and Survivor Series.
