Interesting. Audible is always recommending that series to me.

I’m currently listening to Dune Messiah and it’s ****ing great. I’ve read Dune something like 5 or 6 times, but stupidly have never gone deeper in the series. Very excited to see where Children of Dune and God Emperor of Dune takes the story. Messiah starts 10 years after the events of Dune and **** got real VERY quickly.

By the way, we have to replace the bird logo with an X in the task bar.

EDIT: Hmm....see the tweet function isn't even working anymore

And...the Pac-12 has died. And my school will be completely screwed by the deal because we have the audacity to locate our campus outside of a major city. Relative to resources our programs have performed really well, and the result is that we will only be marginalized further.

I imagine this is the beginning of the end of college sports for me. Not saying I'll never watch a game again, but I'm not about to make it appointment viewing when this is how we've been treated. Add college football and college basketball to the NBA on the unfortunately growing list of sports that have been aggressively seized away from me.

Someone made the joke that if just two more teams leave, they'll be 2-Pac.

Or if 2 more join 6-Pac

Those people should work on their jokes.

By the way, JP Crawford glared at the mound after getting hit last night, so it feels like there’s non-negligible M’s-Angels fight equity this weekend.

God damn I’m over seeing these social media posts worming their way into my feed where the UW trolls want to not only be shitty people, but want to convince people they’re not and be affirmed by people who know better. There’s a political parallel I’ll leave alone, but if you’re going to be a giant bag of **** then at least have the honesty to own what you are.

I’m not seeking out these posts, I’m blocking liberally, but they pop up anyway. **** all of these idiots now and forever. It’s an absolute shame that they continue to breathe the air that better people could breathe in their place.

To be clear: as a 15-year veteran of being a sports theft victim, I do understand the reality of how outsiders regard entire sports being viciously stolen from good fans. For a fleeting moment they go, “man, that sucks.” Then they go, “hey, what’s for lunch?” And then anytime they encounter the topic again for the rest of their days they think, “Look: I get that you’re upset, but your pain isn’t mine and therefore it really doesn’t matter very much. Get back to me when it happens to me instead. It will suddenly be very important then.” Except, of course, they don’t exercise that level of candor about their reaction.

I love people.

Just caught a showing. Confirmed awesome. I don’t know how the box office on this movie has shaken out exactly, but I hope it’s achieved some measure of success. Though I suppose it doesn’t matter to this franchise since the next is the last and I’m sure is in no danger regardless.

As it stands right now it looks like it’s gonna eat a loss of a couple hundred million

They already filmed part 2 so I imagine it doesn’t change anything but damn

Seems like the bigger problem is how much money goes into the creation of marketing of these movies that you need to hit 700 million in the box office to achieve a profit

“Marketing.”

Hollywood is infamous for creative accounting and I suspect the whole industry is due for a financial overhaul. Post COVID audience numbers seem to be highlighting this issue with blockbusters, in particular.

There's some **** that athletes or famous people do that make absolutely no sense to me.

You'd think a major league baseball player and an extremely good one at that, wouldn't have much trouble finding a girl of a suitable age.

WTF Wander Franco??

Although, it would be remiss to not mention that all of this stuff also makes these people targets and there's certainly a chance he was set up to be extorted too. We'll have to see how it plays out.

Going to guess that Karl Malone was not short on attention from suitably aged women when he was a 20-year-old star college basketball player with clear NBA potential either...and then he impregnated a 12-year-old. Doesn't seem like that's anywhere close to being the consistent motive with these gross sex crimes.

Reading Darth Plagueis again because I’m a ****ing nerd. This book is sublime.

“There it was again, Plagueis thought: the deceptive cadence; the use of flattery, charm, and self-effacement as if rapier feints in a duel. The need to be seen as guileless, unassuming, empathetic. A youth with no desire to enter politics, and yet born for it.”

I’m really gonna hope for the best here and not that Franco threw away what seems to be a potential HOF career by being a pederast

That said….damn

That also said….at least he’s missing the giants series

Lol Nevin.

Pitching to contact is what pitchers do when they can't miss bats.

Quote:
Nevin said Wise has worked with Detmers on pitching to contact more, and not trying to strike everyone out. It’s unclear how his penchant for striking guys out, however, is at the root of his failures on the mound.

MLB tonight established an informal policy that you're not allowed to eject Framber Valdez if he blatantly throws at someone because, after all, he's Framber Valdez. Tremendous developments. ****ing idiots.

(The policy still allows for him to be ejected if he hurts their feelings with a terse comment, of course.)

Julio seemed more concerned about Framber than his own team.

Yeah, I was not pleased with that, though it’s fairly difficult to be agitated with Julio overall with the stretch he’s having.

Pretty curious about his next time up when he got to barking with Maldonado. Someone desperately needs to kick Maldonado in the junk with a steel-toed boot.

The M's were down 9 games from the Rangers going into the month of August.

The Rangers had the best SP in the month of August by a lot
-3.9 war while Atlanta was 2nd with 3.3
-3.15 era over 151.1 IP while 2nd was sea at 3.30
-3.23 fip while 2nd was SFG with 3.52

The M's ended the month leading the division

That's how bad the Rangers bullpen is. It's like, historically bad. At one point this year they had 24 saves and 27 blown saves.

I didn't think the Rangers would hold up, but I just didn't think the offense would hold up beyond the top 2. And then when deGrom AND Eovaldi went down, I didn't think Scherzer and Montgomery were adequate enough replacements to keep them on top. More a 2 & 3 than a 1 & 2.

Mariners might be the most complete team in the AL. I don't see how anyone can shut down the Braves (glad I got them at 7-1 early), but Seattle has a complete pitching staff and more than enough offense to get them through any team it seems. I was surprised they struggled so much early.

Every other team in the AL seems to be missing something (and it's mostly pitching).

Mariners offense is not very trustworthy. The regression of Suarez and France is real and was fairly predictable. Crawford's improvement has been a happy surprise, but I still don't think of us as having a particularly good lineup.

Unfortunately it appears that Bryan Woo has taken the mound with no plans to pitch well today, so we're probably notching a loss unless that offense does show up.
