In all seriousness, I've been considering doing something like this for a long time (black friday probably being the first time it crossed my mind for real). I've been to Victoria and Toronto and loved both of those places (Victoria specifically). Wasn't as hot on Montreal but it still was nice.

The process seems pretty long and complex, but I think I might give it a shot sometime in the next 18 months. I'm not foolish enough to believe it's as simple as "MOVE SOMEWHERE ELSE AND THE PROBLEMS GO AWAY", but I think I've reached the end of what Texas has to offer me and if I want to move somewhere new why not somewhere nice that I've been before?

Haha damn. Probably about to do another location change myself though Jim. Its pretty fun if youre not scared of being alone a bit at first

Yeah, like I said it's not as much of a "OH MAN ILL GO ELSEWHERE AND EVERYTHING WILL BE WONDERFUL" thing. It's more of a "I've been here for 6ish years, kind of did all the cool things to do here, and want to move somewhere else while I still have the ability to do so" thing. Though I also recognize that a "do it just to do it" thing isn't a great reason to uproot and leave a bunch of people behind. Which is why I still haven't done it. shrug, idk

Also, loooool the parrot thing

Yeah but at the same time its good to recognize that its an opportunity now and may not be later on. Or at least thats the way I frame it to feel better about running around lol

Yeah, I mean I've been checking a lot of America places too. Seattle, San Fran, San Diego, Denver, New York, and Boston being the main ones. The fear of being alone initially has been one of the main reasons I've held off. Even when I went to school or moved here after it I knew people so this will be an entirely new experience. Definitely has resulted in cold feet once before already lol.

Part of me also just wants to move to Vegas because thats something I know for sure I'll never do a decade from now. There are so many options and I have no idea what I really want to do, so I end up just throwing my hands up and staying lol

Where have you been if you dont mind me asking?

Yeah, I just can't resist cynical humor, and for some reason I've retained that Daria line for nearly 20 years. I trot it out whenever applicable.

I would consider transplanting again if not for the massive pain of getting myself accepted into another state bar. Reciprocity will be available at some point, but even then I find it difficult to imagine that I'll actually move. I guess if my job situation destabilized though, who knows.

Speaking of which, boss comes in this afternoon.

"Oh by the way, meant to mention it, but with the transition team (for the new administration) coming in, I was told that you guys should make sure that your resumes are up to date."
"Oh. Umm..."
"Not that you would lose your job or anything. It sounds like they'll just want to see them and have an updated copy on file."

There had to be a better way to introduce that.

There's something about someone going from zero to furious and suddenly exploding that is just too hilarious. Gotta be a big reason that Costanza was the runaway best character on Seinfeld. But Kelsey Grammer as Frasier was really the master of the funny blow-up.

I was in Chicago and Chicagoland / Indiana for a long ass time, so I just picked up in January and moved to Denver without knowing a soul. Denver is pretty damn sweet I have to say, but Ive got my sights on either LA or Seattle next I think. Ideally Id like to do each for 1-2 years.

My list was something like NYC, SF, Denver, Seattle, Austin, LA, Boston, Portland. I doubt Ill make it that far, I guess the hope is I fall into a life I dont want to leave? Who knows. I know 1 person in Seattle and 2 people in LA, so those are kind of cheating

Incidentally, got up to season 8 in my Office rewatch, and the introduction of Spader in upper management and Andy Bernard as regional manager is definitely the exact point when the quality just jumped off a ****ing cliff. I thought it had been more gradual, but it was basically overnight with the start of that season. I had to tap out and stop the rewatch.

Boston is fun (current resident), would recommend (albeit driving is hell here, but you don't need a car unless you live/work outside the city).

Seems like a pretty similar list to me. I know a person or two in LA, NYC, and Boston. The one in Boston said pretty much what burdz said. Apparently its great. I went for a weekend a couple years ago and it was sweet.

I wonder if anyone doesn't have George #1. The more interesting question is best side characters (side being not the main 4 no matter how many appearances).

regarding office: its definitely a dip but i didnt find it to be a massive one that made me quit. that was the introduction of nelly. god, the worst.

If its any motivation, pretty much every one of my cities is exploding in cost so best to hop to it now before were all stuck living in the boonies forever!

Burdz, Ive pretty much never heard a bad thing about Boston. Not sure I could do the accent though...

Also I was going to mention, basically any person from any city Ive talked to complains about traffic. I feel like its only an actual concern in LA

I only made it through mid season 6. I thought that 1-5 was some of the best work ever and then....just over and not in the HHH way.

I'm sure that Kramer would have some non-negligible percentage of the #1 vote from Seinfeld fans.

I've got David Puddy as a pretty clear best side character.

Only Southie born and raised have those accents, the rest of us are normal

I've just been proceeding under the assumption that Bostonians are the worst people in the world based on the "Ma.sshole" stereotype and the fact that the one person I've known IRL from Boston was by FAR the most toxic person I've ever had the displeasure of personally knowing. It was drilled into my head to blame the whole region when a friend of mine, an overly nice guy and a Vermont native, the only person I've ever known to try to defend the Bostonian in question, who went with, "Well...you have to understand: he's from Boston. They're like that there."

But admittedly I've never been there, so I don't actually doubt that it's a great city.

That's some incredibly ignorant thinking. That'd be like me imagining you and everyone else from Indiana is automatically on-par Mike Pence and his bigotry.

Yeah I obviously understand the irrationality/ignorance of the thinking, hence the last sentence of the post. I admit my exposure is way too limited to be meaningful.

Having said that, if you go to a Bruins/Red Sox home game, it will be mostly that demographic
