This guy's advice and coaching to people was generally very much on point, which only made it all the more frustrating that he was insisting on teaching volunteer poker school to anyone who would listen.

The only time he took a break from doling out poker lessons was to lecture a young bad player on why he should stop drinking and smoking. Not at the moment, mind you - the kid wasn't drinking while playing, and this was a non-smoking table - but rather, just life advice. By the time I left I wanted to whack the guy with a tire iron. ****ing jackass.
Sadly this is a pretty common occurrence in live poker these days. It's really annoying and can kill a good game by making everyone play nitty.

Bummer to hear that it's common. I mean FFS, he was schooling the kid on the fact that on the turn, he only had a 19% chance to make his flush on the river, and then was pulling out something on his phone to prove it. Later on, a player folded to this self-appointed poker professor on the turn admitting that he wanted to call but that the 19% number he named earlier was haunting him and he didn't want to miss and face the bigger bet on the turn if he did. Professor replied that he was glad he folded, that he just wanted the pot right then.

Dude was a pussy who was just determined to lower his variance even if it meant completely eliminating any edge he (and any other winner) might have in the game. Thanks for discouraging people from chasing their draws, *******.

The poker lessons at the table guy should form a heel stable with the rage at people for chasing guy and the "you can't win in these games where nobody folds" guy.

I'd like to think that some of the problem is that I showed up to play in the early afternoon. On a Saturday, but still. Friday and Saturday night games almost have to be a lot more live.

I like this, except I think at some point we would have to repackage "you cant win in these games where nobody folds" guy into "Im moving up to 2/5 where they will respect my raises" guy

Every time I walk past towels for sale I think of LKJ's comment about the high value of a new towel and hear Mr. Perfect's theme song play.

Oddly (given the timing of that post) I actually have a set of new towels en route to my home that I ordered earlier today. Exciting times.

Haha. I have to admit that when I saw LKJ's original post I instantly ordered 6 new towels. It's so true though, you can't underestimate the value of a brand new towel. Double that with heated racks and it's the best.

I have an idea for a draft but I don't know where to post it.

The details are going to be a bit sketchy because I'm not sure exactly how it would work and I have nowhere near enough wrasslin' knowledge to take part in it, however:

10 teams, 30-50 rounds, double picks will come in at some point. The idea is that you have to pick a roster and then book your wrestlers over a 1yr period. I don't know if people would want to book the entire PPV schedule that exists in today's WWE so perhaps it could be done over 8-10 PPVs that are agreed upon beforehand. Obviously the year should end with Wrestlemania.

Thoughts?

That draft has happened a number of times now, and was done again fairly recently. It's a good idea and has been fun, but it's been done to death at this point and probably needs an extended break before ever seeing a reboot.

People don't fully follow up on booking their companies (some make attempts but don't go on for very long, some never start).

Yeah, sorry to burst your bubble. The last one is the only one where most of the field tapped out and stopped drafting before the designated ending, so that's usually a death knell.

It may be worth revisiting in the future.

The one year timeframe would make it significantly different as it would change the value of a lot of guys, and it would be way easier for people to lay out their booking plans for a year rather than 20 years or so. It's still probably too soon since the last one though.

Speaking of drafts, who won the last season of fantasy wrestling?

Probably Cena.

I just went and grabbed lunch from Subway. Now, at the end of counter where the sandwich gets finished up, a bell and sign just like this were up:

I'm ashamed to live in a world where such an idea was hatched, let alone implemented.

I would methodically ring it ten times as a tribute to Curt Hennig.

Why do you still keep eating at Subway?

Because it's attached to my office building and actual good places always have lines at lunch. They would ~never get my business if other options offered the same convenience.

actual decent draft/random talking point idea:

start with right after last Wrestlemania (or now) WWE, book through next Wrestlemania, feel free to add/sign up whoever you want

Interesting idea. Seems like you couldn't have more than like four drafters, but still.
