Regal is so awesome (both in the ring and character wise) that it's hard to argue with the pick, but my first instinct was that it was a little too early since he was never really a main eventer.

I'd have probably taken Undrafted ahead of Davey Boy.

I also think Shane Douglas sucks

ECW was literally on a two year delay here (until later on when it was pretty aids) so I never bothered with it and therefore didn't really see much of Douglas. Whenever I go back and look at him though I fail to see anything particularly special in him.

(I might be exaggerating a bit with "literally two years" but that's how I remember it)

I could use a bit more in-ring skill (plus I love the idea of him versus Guerrero) so I'm gonna get myself what I perceive to be a top mid-carder. He has great versatility and helps to shore up a bit of a weakness in terms of in-ring skill.

Awesome on the stick and very good in the ring until an unfortunate accident took that away I'm going with:

Current Roster:

Sting
The Ultimate Warrior
Eddie Guerrero
Rick Rude
Batista

The huge difference is that millions and millions of people watched WCW at this time both on TV and PPV, and hardly anyone watches TNA. The 2nd highest selling non-wwf PPV of all time and one of the top 5 or so selling PPVs of the 90s had DDP in the main event (in a laughably bad match, just like the #1 selling non-wwf PPV).

DDP also was getting huge pops during this time. I think he is a type of wrestler that appeals to casual fans so I'm not surprised you personally think he sucks.

I guess true value wise it's not a terrible pick. I guess the main reason my face melted is that I didn't expect you in particular to make the pick.

My pick will be coming shortly. It's a pretty classy one, I must say.

+1 to self-high five being horrible by the way.

Page had really limited wrestling skill, really limited arsenal, wasn't good on the mic, etc. That said, for what moorobot was going for he didn't strike me as a facemelter there.

Spoiler:

Freddie Blassie

Arguably the greatest heel in the history of this business, Classy Freddie Blassie had a career spanning six decades, during which he was a legitimate crossover star, regularly appearing on talk shows. Blassie is recognised by many as having perfected the art of the interview (although admittedly Rogers got there first and created the blueprint), and is known for such underhanded tactics as filing his teeth (as seen in the pic above), and then biting his opponents foreheads. He has incited legit fan riots, and some fans even literally died in Japan after his treatment of their undrafted hero.

I want to write more about Blassie but I'm really tired but I may write more later on sometime. For now here is an interview from the great man himself (this isn't known as one of his best or anything, it's just a random one I found and I thought it was pretty funny).

To quote myself from the last draft "Some may see this as a reach due to the amount of sought after talent that is still available, but those people are clearly pencil neck geeks, grit eating freaks, and scum sucking pea heads with lousy physiques."

Spoiler:
Roster:
Daniel Bryan
Andre The Giant
Randy Orton
Bobby Heenan
Stan Hansen
Jushin Liger
Freddie Blassie

Yeah Blassie has been lingering on my radar for a while.

I feel like having Rogers, GG and Blassie would have been a bit overkill.

(damn you to hell for drafting George btw)

Regal is pretty loved by a lot of hardcore wrestling fans so I think you had to pick him there if you wanted him. He's still building his value and might be a + announcer for awhile. I'd have him in front of Bulldog and Douglas and behind Slaughter who I think is easier to make money with and good at doing what he is supposed to do in the ring and on the mic.

By the way Blassie was also one of the greatest managers ever, but I'll probably just use his wrestling years since I already have Heenan.

My thinking as well.

It is pretty funny to see the line I took ITT.

1. "Meh, the old-timers, I'm just not sure they translate."
2. "I select Buddy Rogers."
3. "Also Gorgeous George btw."

Ha yeah I was gonna bring that up, but you did say you'd draft them if you saw good value and I can't argue with the value of either of those picks.

Well with Rogers obviously there are absolutely zero concerns with how he would translate from a character/mic work standpoint. Gorgeous George, beyond value, just had a gimmick that fit too well in my mind as a natural foil to the likes of The Rock and face Terry Funk.

I would be willing to give up quite a bit to get a top face btw, if anyone sees anything they fancy on my roster. Prob won't reply to any offer until tomorrow.

Obviously not counting on them to match the newer blood in terms of ringwork. I mean they might, but I'm as skeptical as anyone that they would. But I mean lots of outright stiffs in the ring are going because of other features, things that I can't see people like Buddy Rogers and Gorgeous George (who did the character/promo aspect of wrestling) failing at.

I kind of get the hate for drafting really old guys but I just can't help myself if one pops up at huge value. I'm definitely trying to have a lot less of them than last time though.

Great non-verbal communication and appearance (charisma) has always sold in entertainment. Charisma is the one thing that the top stars from all eras have in common. Daniel Bryan had been a top notch worker for years and years, and he finally becomes a mega star after his yes! yes! yes! no! no! no! stuff. DDP and the NWO's hand symbols were so widely imitated for years. Everyone remembers Hulk ripping the shirt. Just like everybody once remembered Buddy Rogers's strut.

I think now this is probably less important in wrestling than it once was, but that might change again I suppose.

That writeup makes me think that I've been watching the wrong Dustin Runnels all these years.
