Happy Wrestlemania Day!
To celebrate, I've just finished watching my favorite Wrestlemania match of all time:
Kurt Angle vs Shawn Michaels
Wrestlemania 21

I love everything about this match.
The build was easy: Kurt Angle thought he was the greatest wrestler of all time. Shawn Michaels thought he was. That's it. No twists. No turns. No titles. No props. No stipulations. Just a match on the biggest stage of them all to prove once and for all who the better wrestle was. It was simple, but it worked perfectly for those two.
The atmosphere was great. The crowd was into it from the moment Kurt Angle stepped through the curtain and didn't go away. It felt like a match you should care about.
Of course from a technical perspective it was nothing short of elite. Two of the greatest wrestlers of all time went back and forth showing off their ability to go through mat work as smoothly as the uptempo work we're more used to.
The finish couldn't have been booked any better. This is the perfect example of how a face should quit. It was gritty, it was gutty, and at the end both of them come off looking better than when they walked in.
Hope you enjoyed the trip down memory lane. What's everyone else's favorite Wrestlemania match?
