I come from an era when wrestlers used popular music and didn't have theme music written just for them. My favorite has to be Freebird by Lynard Skynard as used by The Freebirds, of course. Can't believe no one mentioned that.

I still remember Michael Hayes going into a match without having a partner. As the music is playing, Terry Gordy comes out to reunite with Hayes. I really marked out.

I mentioned this in the nostalgia thread. Hayes probably was the man to do the most to popularize the use of entrance music in wrestling.

Entrance music was hardly used at all, then Hayes started coming out to Freebird. The Von Erichs saw this and thought rock n roll music and wrestling were a perfect match, so they started coming out to rock music, then it spread like wildfire throughout all the different companies.

Bruno may reject the very notion of an entrance theme. He didn't use a theme even when he wrestled several matches in the WWF in 1987, and is openly critical of what he sees as the 'over the top theatrics' used in wrestling since the early 80s.

It is strange that most of the pre 1980s legends normally used what we now call a jobber entrance.

Since this is a thread devoted to music used by wrestlers, I thought I'd ask this question here. When Shawn Michaels had to vacate his title because he lost his smile, they played a song by a female artist before he came out. Had something to do with a hero or heroes. For the life of me, I can't remember the name and that bugs me.

Does anyone remember?

I feel it's cheap to say ECW themes since they used real songs and not original music like WWE and WCW, but ECW had some bad ass entrance songs that always got me pumped for matches:

"Enter Sandman" by Metallica (Sandman)
"Walk" by Kilgore (RVD)
Taz's theme (was this an original song?)
"Man in the Box" by Alice in Chains (Dreamer)
"Come Out and Play" by Pearl Jam (Raven)

Great great jobber. Love those old Nitros where they cut to the crowd and some fat white dudes are rockin out to this

And of course

I remember back when youtube first came up, there was some dude who had a ton of Alex Wright clips and the description was always something like "Alex vs a muscle heel. great package". Kinda creepy, but the track was always hot. Undefeated vs HHH and Y2J on PPV I believe
