*Anything worth sharing?

I got fired because of attendance problems. I just stopped caring. Lots of **** going down with my parents, plus issues with the gf.

The day she left me, I went into work, hit the casino floor and just felt like ****. I met her on my game 5 years on that day.. So I went home. They told me that if I left, I'd be fired. They kept their word.

*If not, how about "What are some typically fireable offenses?" and "Any funny firing stories about other people?"

Most dealers have to **** up pretty big to get fired. The most fireable offense is probably for getting into it with a customer (talking back basically). Next popular I would say is attendance type stuff.. Calling in too late, patterns of going home on certain days and just too many points for going home sick.

FMLA's were "extremely" popular. They allowed you to take like 60 days a year off (no excuse needed, just say FMLA and you go home). Everyone had one back then.

I'll give you guys some specific stories about dealers getting fired a little later. I have a couple of good ones

*How much does a typical dealer know about card counting? Are there special trainings on card counting?

Dealers aren't taught anything about card counting. Some floor supervisors are taught, but it's not common at all.

I would guess that of all casino gaming personnel, maybe 2-3% know how to count.

A friend of my fathers, a veteran card mechanic, taught me a very basic count system.

(I like blackjack tournaments.. lots of bad players in those. I've cashed in a couple.)

I found over the years that most dealers know about as much as the players do (if that). They're also some of the biggest degens you'll ever meet. Most of the dealers that I knew liked to gamble (obv some more than others).

My father got a job for a friend's wife at Arizona Charlie's, when I worked there.

She had this cigar smoker on her table. She bent over and waved the smoke out of her face and then had the nerve to fan her hand in front of the guy's face (as to blow the smoke back at him).

The guy threw a fit and she got fired.

This woman was a degen video poker player.

When they fired her, she went and sat down at a vp machine. She started playing.

When I left work she was still there.

When I came into work she was still there.

I leave work again.. Still There!

She lost 5 grand over 2 days.. on the same machine.. in the same clothes (her uniform).

Her husband left her (and her $60k in cc debt) about 3 months later.

She tried to hit my dad up for a couple hundred one time and he told her "if you ****ed me every day, I still wouldn't loan you 40 bucks. GTFOH!"

Did they train you to spot card counters? Or was that also left to the floor?

I'm wondering this as well. When the well known card counter walked in did you have to know who they were or did the floor have that responsibility?

I dont get it; what does the last statement have to do with the story?

Rank the games in order of the tips they generated for you.

For instance, did dealing blackjack result in more tip money per hour than Caribbean stud? Roulette? Let It Ride? etc?

My guess is roulette was the worst.

Card counting techniques might be taught to floor people along with ways to detect it (or the presence of teams and other threats). But floor people (on average) have many other duties to take care of, that it rarely gets attention (unless the attention is brought to them).

In other words, not too many card counters get caught.. unless they win a lot and are being tracked.

Roulette doesn't have a great drop, but it beats Let-It-Ride and Caribbean Stud and the Big 6, where the tips are usually given when "bonuses" are hit. And they don't hit all day, every day, like blackjacks do on a 21 table.

The carnival games have a more fixed play than Roulette too. So you're really not going to see anything too crazy (like 15 people betting on red and promising to tip you every time it repeats). So in that way, Roulette's not too bad.

But nothing compares to blackjack. It's the grinder that always delivers a + day, no matter how small. It's always busy making the money.

The next busiest worker is the craps pit. They have the hardest job, by far, and the grind is much simpler (people tip in this game "for luck" more than in any other game). And because the swings can be so huge, the tips can be, too. Bang for the buck wise, craps rules. I've never seen bigger winners than in the dice pit (in my experience).

But the most baller of the workers (ainec) is the big baccarat pits. In terms of buy-ins, this game has had the biggest action historically. You definitely don't make the most money every day, but yearly, the "drop" is untouchable.

My godfather was a baccarat dealer at Caesar's from the late 70's up until the early 90's (the best dealing job Vegas has ever had). He averaged $90k/yr w/o a hiccup the entire time he was employed there. I can't recall in what year they segregated their tips with the other Caesar's dealers, but they went "for their own" for years. The Desert Inn was another great job back then.

Have you known any players who lost so much that they committed suicide? This is a very underreported event. In Atlantic City, a handful of degens take headers from the top of parking garages every year, I would imagine Vegas even more so.

I've heard dozens of stories about suicides (and murders) related to degen gambling, but besides the jumper I mentioned, I can't recall anything. I do remember a young guy that blew his inheritance at (of all places) AZ Charlie's.. He killed himself (don't remember how though).

I knew a dealer that committed suicide over a cocktail waitress. They were both super degenerate gamblers. She stole some money from him and then left him for a degen reg where we worked. She sucked him dry about a year later. After that she became a stripper (and got busted for fraudulent check cashing oslt).

* The crazy part is that he od'd on her oxycontins (that she sold to him). That **** would haunt me.

** I've known three people, friends and co-workers, that od'd on oxys. Two more from other pills. Living in overwhelming despair must suck. Can't think of any other reason someone would end their life :-\

The guy was chasing a trainwreck he didn't see coming. This dealer had Lupus (and other health issues, to say the least).

After having a few drinks, they went back to his suite at Caesar's.

.. Then she got sick..

She started to bleed while they were in bed. She said it was bad (like she literally thought her insides were coming out). He freaked out and asked her to leave.

SO.. just to mess with her, I said "oh, poor guy". She didn't want to make herself out to be a bad time, so then she informed me, "well, I did give him a blowjob in the parking lot of Ellis Island." Like that made it all good

It could be that it's probably only funny/crazy to me. Dunno.

Do you feel dealers get tipped too much?

Do you feel bad dealers get tipped too much?

Do you feel good dealers get tipped too little?

What's the revolving door on dealers?

% of good dealers to bad dealers? % of great dealers to good dealers?

Do you think bad dealers should deal the HS games "sort of a dealer hell" and good/great dealers should deal LS games "Dealer heaven"?

What do you think is an adequate wage for dealers?

Do you have carpal-tunnel? If yes, How often are the flare up and how do you treat it?

Weeeeeeeeee, tip overload question.

Hey was wondering if you could tell me where you ever aware of pit bosses/floor changing roulette wheels around or adjusting them on a regular basis ect. I watched a documentary on a team of roulette players who made money by finding biased roulette wheels ad was wondering if you know or have heard of this theory before.

Thanks

Do you feel bad dealers get tipped too much?

Probably yes. One could argue that they don't do their fair share to contribute to the tip pool. ** they could do more to contribute more **

Do you feel good dealers get tipped too little?

Occasionally, yes. Usually, no.

What's the revolving door on dealers?

When a property is new, it's huge. But generally speaking, there are other jobs that are easier to lose (restaurant staff is up there imo).

% of good dealers to bad dealers? % of great dealers to good dealers?

My guess (fme): Top 5% are great.. 25-35% good (or above average).. and the other 60% are average (or below it). I would say that almost any decent Vegas casino has more "great" dealers than they have "really bad" ones. Most dealers are very average imo.

Do you think bad dealers should deal the HS games "sort of a dealer hell" and good/great dealers should deal LS games "Dealer heaven"?

If I ran a casino, games would be assigned by level (not length) of experience. So basically, yes

What do you think is an adequate wage for dealers?

A little more than minimum wage (because they make tips). I wish there was a federal "flat rate" tax (on tips) for ALL hospitality industry workers that earn tips as a significant portion of their income. Dealers in Vegas are currently paying ~20% in taxes (the highest of any tipped employee).

Do you have carpal-tunnel? If yes, How often are the flare up and how do you treat it?

No carpal tunnel here. I exercised my wrists generously in my early teens. No, but seriously, I've only known of two dealers that got carpal tunnel (and it's not clear if it was from dealing). Roulette would probably be the game to do it though. You use your wrists a lot mucking chips and spinning the ball. A lot of roulette dealers rest their wrist on the wheel's rim right before each spin.

Management will have a wheel inspected (usually by an in-house engineer) IF they suspect a problem. Have I ever witnessed such a thing? No.

Roulette wheels (since the late 80's) are so well made (and precise), that it'll be extremely rate to find a biased wheel in a Vegas casino. That's like riverboat era type ****.

It's funny.. there's no other game with a legend behind it like roulette has. It's said (here goes one of many legends) that the inventor of the game created it as a means to "win bsck" the wages he paid his employees. He must have made a fortune. Same legend also says that he later went crazy trying to beat his own game. Talk about stepping into your own trap.

Here's another one.. if you add up all the numbers on the wheel (1+2+3.. to 36), you'll get
666.

This image shows what is known as the "snake bet" in roulette. "It is said" that the snake forms an "M" (for man) OR upside down, a "W" (for woman). The snake, the man and the woman in the green field (Garden of Eden - the original sin).

There's a few other legends, but my mind is a little "foggy" atm.

What I meant to say was funny is that there is so much superstition and bs when it comes to gambling. These games are based on mathematical outcomes.. there's a right way to play and a wrong way to play.. anything in the middle won't matter. Play bad long enough and a Jesus foot keychain ain't gonna help you win ****.

did you gamble where you worked? or somewhere else? or not at all?

what was your choice of gamble?

did you play poker during the time that you dealt? if so, where?

i can't remember if this was already asked: what is the biggest tip you received from a player during one "session"?

*Just adding this* The Orleans is probably where I've gambled the most (in my life). Palace Station (my Pai Gow palace) would be next.

Horseshoe - yes. We were even allowed to play machines on our breaks (but not allowed to play table games). I mostly played .25 and $1 slots.

Arizona Charlie's - yes. Same as HS, but only after your shift. First time I ever played live poker was with my ex gf (a dealer that worked with me) in AZC's poker room. I hit a royal once at one of the bars there.

Paris - no. We were prohibited from gambling at any Caesar's property.

Tbh, I used to play it all before I started at the Paris. I gambled quite a bit. Pai Gow and Roulette for fun.. BJ if I was serious. Played in a few BJ tournaments and did really well.

I didn't get into poker until I started at the Paris. I used to play online at PokerHost and Party, then later on at PokerStars. I met the entire staff of PS (3 guys iirc) months before they launched. One of them was playing Caribbean Stud.

After blowing about 4 grand online, I just gave that **** up. After leaving the Paris, I started playing cash games at The Sahara. I'd play the tournaments there and at The Orleans (mostly).

Then I started playing regularly closer to my house in N. Las Vegas.. The Cannery, Texas Station, Santa Fe, Fiesta a few times and even the Nugget.

I played (a ton) live until my mom got sick in '09. I signed up to 2p2 after I layed off poker. I haven't played regularly ever since.

Biggest tip ever was a guy playing $2k/hand for me on 2 hands.. so $4k in one session/hand.. but dropped like $18k-$20k off same guy (in one round.. or hour of dealing).

Dealers, where I've worked, always either deal 20, 40, 60 or occasionally 80 minutes straight. You usually get one 20 min. break every hour. You eat whenever you want (there's no longer lunch break).

I remember a few times at the Paris coming in at noon and having my boss tell me, "go on break til 5 after 1. Don't let anyone know. Take out so-n-so when you get back." Or my favorite, "take a 40 and then open up wheel 'x'."

Longest break I was ever given was one hour and 40 minutes. I spent it with a change girl (she wasn't a change girl, but I really don't remember what she was.. maybe player's card booth :/) getting my **** sucked in the basement garage of the Paris. I'll leave that gem of a story for later

** I wouldn't mind non-gaming questions.. Like what, I dunno

This one got me thinking..

Tbh, I can't think of anything in particular

I saw a female dealer get pissed on once at AZC. This guy was drunk (next table over) and giving the dealer a hard time.

I hear this guy tell the dealer "if you beat me with 20 one more time.. I swear I'm gonna piss all over you!"

I swear those were his EXACT words.

About 5 minutes later, I hear the dealer scream. I look over and she was a step or so away from the table (looking down)..

She was wearing black pants and you could still tell that he got her from the knees down.

Here's the kicker:

1. She started crying and asked if she could go home to change. They said no.. call someone to bring you new pants.

2. When the boss approaches the game, with 2 security guards, I'm thinking this guy is going to get thrown out. Instead I see the boss writing something down and handing it to the guy.. It's a comp!! He tells the guy "go eat.. sober up.. and you can come back later and keep playing."

Yo boss man.. W T F ?!!!

I guess that's how the ball bounces sometimes

Quick bio:

Born n raised in Vegas. Parents were from Cuba. Pops started dealing Roulette in Cuba when he turned 16. My parents came to Vegas in the 60's. My father continued to deal until he retired in 2005. He was a casino dealer for 50 years.

I had a few jobs between the ages of 15 (throwing newspapers) until I turned 22, when I quit my job at an auto body shop to go to dealing school. On Valentines Day of 1994, I started pitching cards at a $1 blackjack table at Binion's Horseshoe downtown.

The last day I ever dealt was on 4/20/2007. 5 days after my gf of EXACTLY 5 years left me. The day she left me was our 5 year anniversary. I met her on my blackjack table, right there at the Paris. My last dealing job.

I was a dealer for 12 years. My father for 50. He's told me some pretty crazy stories and I've seen some pretty crazy **** myself.

I've seen a female dealer get urinated on.

I've witnessed a man pissing in a slot machine hopper.

I've watched as security tackled a guy while he was taking a dump on the casino floor.

I've even seen a cocktail waitress come to work so loaded that she forgot to put on the lower half of her uniform!

That's just some mildly crazy ****. So.. whether you're nice to me or not, I just ask that you ask good questions and try not to make them so much about me. This is my chance to tell some good stories. I hope you get some enjoyment itt.

Thanks.

One of my favorites was a friend of my dad's.. a real partier.. had surveillance write him up one time. Reason given on "the warning slip".. Dun dun dun dunnn..

"Not" having mousse in his hair!

Dude was on like a 3 day binger (and was looking pretty rough). I remember how funny he was when we gave him a ride home that night..

This guys a jealous prick because of all the pussy I get!
So and so shouldn't even talk, that bald piece of ****! My balls have more hair than he's ever had.
They're just miserable muther****ers.. pissed off because they're not me. It's my hair they go after.. I'd **** em all up.. and their wives! (he literally assassinated every Riviera emloyee) He was talking mad ****.

He never shut his mouth the entire ride home. AND THEN He literally fell out of my dad's car as my dad pulled up to his house. I just saw his arm opening the door and then he just rolled right out onto the ground

That **** was hilarious!! He he got up and just started cursing at my dad. Me and him were just laughing our asses off!

Umm.. best place to [WATCH FOR] hookers? Caeser's Palace is like a ground zero. Bellagio, Flamingo, Harrah's.. all rights there (usually inside the casinos in proximity of the bars).
