Fold earlier? Or call on 5th? Bubble is coming soon and antes are very high so I couldn't be certain of making the money with remaining chips. The tournament average stack was close to 40k chips.

In a cash game I'd reraise on 3rd but near the bubble I didn't want to commit to the pot.

I'd still raise on third here, and raise on 4th too. With three 5s gone on 4th villain can almost never make a straight. C/c fifth if we play it that way is no fun but how it would have to go.

I know making the money is worth a ton of eq, but one should play for first imo, rather than trying to back into the money.

It's turbo, so getting past the bubble is a big deal imo because after bubble average stack is about two big bets, so it's mostly luck that determines who gets big stacks in the post bubble play.

Depends on how much a mincash is worth for you. If its a lot, fold 3rd, if not raise 4th.
If it aint a shot, you should get in the raise on 4th and commit yourself. Even if he has 8low-84, you still have +40% equity on 4th (even more vs hands like QQ-84). Getting past the bubble short and then scooping an all-in will very likely still only result in a mincash (maybe +10-20$) in such a big field. Having a bigger stack to be able to eat some smallstacks after the bubble is worth a ton here.

The softness (awfulness) of the field made me play conservatively because I thought I'd have chances at greater than 60% equity in pots after the bubble. And I did get a great chance when I did have a good multi-way hand after the bubble, which could have got me back to a bigger stack if I had scooped instead of bricked out.

Thanks for your thoughts.

this is fine except call 5th, especially w/ 5s gone for villain. Who knows; he could have paired 2s there.
