This forum seems pretty dead (I was surprised to see that a 1-2 hand was really about $1 and $2 and not $100 and $200) from a quick glance, and I was wondering if stud is pretty much "beaten" as far as strategy goes. If so, aside from the few books on the game what great insights have come out of this forum in the past years?

I figure stud is pretty much dead across the board these days (can't even find a decent sized game in vegas, only end up playing at commerce when I have time where they have 30 and 100 regularly).

It's nice to see Andy B still posting since he seems to know what he is talking about. I feel like I don't really know what I'm doing with the game but keep beating it anyhow. This runs contrary to hold'em where I feel that I have a solid grasp of it and feel like I lose all the time anyhow.

Anyhow, the point of this thread (in my head) is to aggregate all of the current knowledge about this game. Posts that would make people think and either say "wow, that's great and I never thought of that" or "that's wrong and stupid" are what I'd be going for.

I guess I just feel like there's "nothing" to this game, and that a huge edge can be gotten just by remembering all the dead cards (most don't seem to do this) and using basic poker strategy. I guess I feel like I only win because the other players are terrible and if I ever came across a good player I'd be in big trouble.

What do the good players do, know, etc? Like, let's say that you win at stud. Why do YOU think that you win? Go go go.

Sort of pre-answered your own question there, no?

I would say just like in any other game that the good players are getting their edge in marginal spots and opponent reads. Everybody knows what to do with a fullhouse, but the best players make correct decisions with mediocre hands more often.

No money in stud, everyone's solid

Most useless post ever. Seven card stud is a far more complex game than texas hold'em, and involves much more than 'just remembering the dead cards'.

Much better players than me will tell you the same about the stud-hold'em comparison.

The mere fact alone that you find it more difficult to know why you are winning or losing in stud or to express what the correct strategy is should show you that there is depth instead of 'nothing' to this game.
