Rule or Just BAD ETHICS? Rule or Just BAD ETHICS?

Playing $10/$20 stud/8 at the Borgata. I've been leading the betting
and getting called(heads-up). On fifth street my opponent is high on
board and checks, I bet once again. He calls, then says, "check",
meaning he is pre-checking 6th. street.

However, after 6th street is dealt, I am now high on board. I check
and he BETS!! wtf? So, I mentioned to him that he already checked, and
first he said, "but you're high", but then he went along and
begrudgingly checked.

Besides making a really unethical move(IMO), was his pre-check
enforcible here according to the rules?

Most casinos I've been in don't enforce actions made out of turn.

Depends on the rules of the house. In my usual room, action out of turn is not binding. If the dealer let it go, then he was probably within the rules. I also don't think that what he did was particularly slimy. I wouldn't have done it, but I also don't check blind in a one-way game more than once every two or three years.
