Maybe the people wanting a stake aren't as good as you think they are. Although the benefits of a stake is that you are basically free rolling for big money.. If this guy was offering to buy pieces of people then it would make absolutely no sense for a good player to accept.. But a free steak?? Why not, but I want dessert too.

Hmm. When someone offers a stake I assume they are actually buying a piece. One standard arrangement is half of profit (may or may not include stake back)

Perhaps not. Everybody has their own reasons for being staked. Less risk (with less reward), ability to play up in level, networking with potential coaches/top players, etc.

Even top players make it into the money only about 15-25% of the time and go deep far less often. A NL specialist playing Razz or Stud8 may understand tournament play to the highest degree but may miss some of the nuances in playing in a mid-to-late stage Razz or Stud8 MTT.

Given the percentage of runners who likely will have little knowledge of optimal Razz/Stud8 tournament strategy in these fields, OP and his colleagues may believe that backing a number of horses who do is an optimal way to maximize overall return. OP can explain his own reasons, if he chooses.

Staking could be used to help a lower stakes player play higher. Someone who hasn't the roll to play a $330 buyin might be a good gamble if they are doing well at lower stakes.

Buy a man a hamburger and you fed him lunch.
Buy a man a steak and he may take home leftovers for later.

I am a razz grinder and have been playing razz for about 8 months. played and cashed in the 2k guarantee and want to make a splash in the poker world by taking down the ftops. I play smart and have a good coach. And i can get a few 2+2'ers to confirm on my behalf.

This isn't the biggest sample size and I'm aware of that but you can see I do fairly well in razz tournaments. It is currently my best ROI game.

I love the game and always wanted to play in a FTOPS event, I'm a student of the game reading the magazine articles on razz along with Sklansky on Poker.

My style:

Tight and aggressive sums it up. I'm always looking for the edge to put in raises (be it live cards, my opponents image, etc.). I do not commit to many blunders nor chase when far behind, like I said tight and aggressive. You will not see me busting out within one hour.

+1 vouch for Pro Merc. I've railed him playing cash, HU, and in the 1k guarantee. He's been grinding and has done amazingly well given the short time period he's been playing razz; obv knows the game. He deserves a chance imho.
