I belong to a poker league that plays every other week. We are having our first stud Hi event soon and I was wondering if anyone had advice for a good structure? We have been looking at the WSOP $1500 stud tourney, 4500 chips blinds start at 50/100 BI 15 Ante 10 - levels are 30 min.

The starting stack seems small to me if people get aggressive at the start.

What do you fine folks think?

It has been suggested to up the stacks to 15k, is that too much?

50/100 aren't blinds--they're limits. 45BB is a very large starting stack, actually. I wouldn't make it any bigger. If you do, the early rounds are going to be less than meaningful.

Thanx Andy. I meant limits. Guess I have been playing too much Hold Em.

And even at that, sizing games by the blinds is pretty much exclusively used in no-limit and pot-limit games. Most limit games tend to be described by the size of the bets allowed on various streets. (That is, limit holdem is desribed this way also - 10/20 LHE has 5 and 10 blinds, not 10 and 20)

4500 chips is fine. You don't say how many players or how long it's supposed to last. With 30 minute levels and this being a league I would assume you want a decently long event. I'll assume about four tables, but if you cared to elaborate further I might offer something a little different.

4500 chips, 30 minute levels, stud hi

level 1 50/100 limit, 15 ante, 20 bring-in
level 2 100/200 limit, 25 ante, 25 bring-in
level 3 150/300 limit, 30 ante, 50 bring-in
(color up reds)
level 4 200/400 limit, 50 ante, 50 bring-in
level 5 300/600 limit, 50 ante, 100 bring-in
level 6 400/800 limit, 75 ante, 100 bring-in
(color up greens)
level 7 500/1000 limit, 100 ante, 200 bring-in
level 8 800/1600 limit, 200 ante, 300 bring-in
level 9 1000/2000 limit, 300 ante, 300 bring-in
(color up blacks)
level 10 1500/3000 limit, 500 ante, 500 bring-in
level 11 2000/4000 limit, 500 ante, 500 bring-in
level 12 3000/6000 limit, 1000 ante, 1000 bring-in

I don't know what the WSOP structure is but perhaps it is better, perhaps not. This is just a suggestion that you should work off of if you like it, but change it as fits your needs.
