Played $3/$6 Stud Hi/Lo, with a full kill, at Hawaiian Gardens Casino, by LA.

Reminds me why I hate live poker. The structure isn't bad (50c ante, $1 bring in), but they drop was $4+$1. I scooped a pot with a 7 high straight, and the guy next to me when into a fit about how everyone else but him has good luck. Not only was this annoying, but he started talking about how he was going to commit suicide if he couldn't start winning. As he told the guy on his right, very loudly of course, he was waiting on social security monies to come in, and he was playing poker to work his way out of poverty, meaning he's homeless. Nice.

We get down to 7 handed and the game nearly breaks, because the old asians do not want to play "short handed". The game insta breaks after a while, when we get down to 6.

Typical in terms of awful play, and players wanting a new set-up at every opportunity. But the players were much more depressing/scummier than your typical LA crowd. I'll take the commerce game over this any day.

Not any more. (See the Stud B&M thread that ChipsAhoya linked.) The latest news is that the Mirage now spreads a 3-6 stud game (with a $1 ante!)

Not that the Mirage's $1-5, no ante, game was that great to begin with, it has now apparently migrated to the Orleans.

To OP, although the Venetian (along with several other casinos in LV) are willing to spread 7 card stud, they never seem to get enough players to actually deal a game unless you bring your own crew. Other than the aforementioned games at the Mirage and Orleans, AFAIK the only other stud game that is regularly dealt in LV is the 20-40 game at the Bellagio.

Played 1-5 and 5-10 at Foxwoods last Friday night, and one of the dealers mentioned how "they" were thinking of starting a Bad Beat Jackpot "just for the stud players". Since the stud players complain about everything else there (lighting, drink service, temperature, gum chewing, swearing, praying at the table) we may as well start bitching about how there is no stud bbj. Maybe it will work and we'll get one!

Also the one 5-10 table broke up around 1 am - WTF.

Sams Town claims to have a 2/10/20 stud hi/lo double qualifier, similar to the old Friday night game at the Palms, but I doubt it actually goes.

Wow, only one 5/10 stud game on a Fri. night @ Foxwoods ?

Believe it or not, Taj Mahal in AC still gets three/four 5/10 games a day.
I once saw five on a Sat. this summer. Usually only one table of 1-5, due to the stupid $1 per half hour time charge.

Sometimes when they say this, they mean $1 is anted by the button for the table. Unfortunately.

I think this was the same crew as the Palms game, but they moved it. I heard it had moved again to the Venetian, but I don't know. May be worth checking out.

Played with an army of Chief Inspector Clouseaus on 1-5 stud at Foxwoods tonight, who kept hittting on 7th of course, resulting in me getting my a$$ handed to me under glass. Got greedy because "the 5-10 game was too tight". P'wnd. Somehow this is ALL THE YANKEES FAULT.

Also, James Woods is/was there. Strutted out of some club room - he's getting a gut. His "Fast-Walking'" days are over. Lick me Foxwoods.

Good to know! That news, combined with the Spirit Air Boston to AC $9 promotions, may result in some defectors! Faux-king Foxwoods! Poop.

Can't make it, but aiming for the $540 NLH event on Saturday.

Play the 5-10 7CS, they've loosened up a bit in the last year or so. Took them for $210 in less than six hours on Oct 24th.

Could only stand 1-5 for about two hours (last winter) helping a friend lose his training wheels. It was painful, $2 bet and they run away and look at you like you'd thrown a carp on the felt. The noob, looked back and forth between hole and up cards, finally betting. Granny's cards hit the muck before his bet....hey, she figured I had the straight before I did. Duh. You're learning buddy, now maybe you'll read a book or two I lent you.

Even I tagged the 5/10 Stud Hi @ the Taj, on Halloween for 90 bux in two hours. Yeah, woulda stayed longer, but the damn tour bus.
Found out from Martz/Trailways that I could stay overnight and catch a return trip the next evening. This would allow for a 16-hour+ session... yeah, ur right,
make it more like 8-10 and come home w/ some cash...

Going back down Thanksgiving weekend... a nitecrawler bud of mine's coming down from Toronto, wants to check out the 2/4 Omahahaha/8 @ the Taj.
Tentatively scheduled 2 drive down n pick me up in Scranton, I told him I'd cover the turnpike tolls [they kinda start where I'm at ]. A tad -EV, but Leo's hella kewl, met him in Vegas w/ the rest of the 'crawlers.

The Taj $2-4 O8 ($3-6 on $40 scoop) can be a nice change of pace (plays like a home game), but jeez it turns over very slow and very rarely have I seen them start a second table. Haven't tried the $5-10 O8, but my friend said it wasn't that much better. What I haven't seen go is their $3-6 Stud8/O8, seen interest several times but haven't seen it go when I was there. Will definitely get back over thanksgivings and at Xmas-New Years.

I've put my name on the list twice in the last month (Fri. & Sat. nights). The floor called the game on Fri., but only four players showed up. The list never got past five names on Sat. (three weeks ago).

If anyone wants to play this game I'm always up for it. When it used to go regularly (about two years ago) it was a decent game. Always a few recreational players mixing it up with the ol' timers/regs.

In regards to the 5/10 stud, it's one of the better games in the room, IMHO.
There's usually 2-4 tables going most of the time, and weak/passive regulars for the most part.
I've never failed to at least break even in that game, even managed + $200-400 sessions.

Just made my first trip to the Commerce to play 4/8 stud. $1 ante/$1 bring/$1 BBJ/$1 drop on 3rd, then $3 addl drop on 4th EVEN IF IT'S CHECKED AROUND. Despite the sieve like nature of the felt on this table, it was still almost impossible to lose vs. guys this bad. Apparently no hand is strong enough to raise on the river for value because villain may have hidden quads ldo (no, ceegee wasn't in attendence AFAIK). And once you show down an occasional winner they are happy to fold vs. strong boards. +$62! Also, I highly recommend the $1 frozen coconut pops in the gift shop.

Would Orleans be a good hotel/casino to stay at for a stud player coming to Vegas in early January (2nd-7th)? Anyone know what games they spread and if there are any stud tourneys that week?

Last time I was here (which was a little while ago) they had this game going. Not sure on the players, athough I'm sure you're right. I'd say your best bet is try on the weekends.

I really like that structure for LL stud. I wish Taj in AC would spread 4/8 (with white $1 chips only), $1 ante & BI. The 5/10 (.50 ante, $2 BI) 1 chip, 2 chip structure is tight by nature.

Some will argue that a $1 ante (25% of the SB) for 4/8 is too high. And while yes it is a high ante, it forces the old rocks waiting for ultra-premium 3rd street hands to gamble.

I even like to see a 6/12 ($1 ante, $2 BI) game surface in AC.
A guy can dream can't he ?

there is a big difference between the two games at the taj:

(1) the 5-10 O8 game sometimes plays like a 10-20 game with thousands of dollars moving around for extended periods of time (because of the $75 KILL)
and usually moves at a much quicker pace, - (exception: when the players are not all walking away from the table for extended periods of time, - which happens with disturbing frequency on Saturday afternoons...)

(2) by contrast the 2-4 O8 is a much smaller game that usually plays with a half kill (3-6) ...and generally moves a lot slower as the players demand time to consider the more often than not required written invitations to post their blinds, etc...

I have no complaints about the structure itself, only the rake (as if any of us likes the rake in any casino). Everyone just had stacks of whites so no change making needed and no quarters to get stuck under the rail of the table. It slowed things down a little when people had to count out 8 chips on BB streets, but not significantly. It was the only low limit stud going while I was there. There was a list for 1/2 stud which I never saw go, and the high limit area had 30/60 running and eventually called 20/40.

Not sure if the old rocks at my table had learned to adjust to the higher ante or just naturally had more gamble, but I wouldn't have called any of them nitty on 3rd. A few of them were happy to flat call on the river with the virtual nuts tho.

Planning on going to Foxwoods on Thursday, December 3rd. What kind of stud games am I likely to see spread & at what stakes (below 20/40 plz). I don't mind playing Stud in a mixed game either, so HORSE, OE is fine.
