Are we in a time warp here? Is it 1950? "... gives girls an excuse to be sluts?!!" LOL! What the heck is a "slut?" A woman who behaves like a man? Let me bring y'all into the 21st century:

1 - We don't need excuses for "indescretions" since we don't think getting laid when that's what we want with whom we want is anything to apologize for.

2 - See 1.

(maybe the women Jimbo is referring to just have to get drunk to stomach sleeping with him.)

I think ceegee is the only poster I've told this, because the rest of you don't harass me via IM, but I've been out of work for about three months. Suffice to say that a certain individual does not have as refined a sense of humor as I had given him credit for. I don't know if my judgment is questionable enough to be one of electrical's friends or not. Anyway, this morning I accepted a contract position doing CAD support at National Oilwell. This came down really fast. The job was announced Wednesday morning, I interviewed for it on Thursday, and was peeing in cups and filling out mountains of paperwork this morning. I'm really looking forward to this, and I haven't said that about a job in at least eight years.

The one hitch is that they start their workday at 7 am. This is unconscionable, but I'll adapt.

There's a 7 in the am now?

(congratulations)

(someday I'll have to tell the story of what happened before I quit my last job. I did about the rudest thing I ever did, got THANKED for it and the other person apologised to ME. It was awesome)

I'm so thrilled for you! My daughter was out of work for 7 months last year - so I know how hard it is. WHAT A GREAT JOB GETTING experience - (it just messes with your self-esteem to apply and apply...) - but now it's all good.

Tell us sooner so we can send more good thoughts your way when under life duress. Goes for the rest of ya, too.

I was out of work for 3 or 4 months a few years ago, right at the time my wife and I got engaged. It was awful. My wife was in college, working at an internship making minimum wage or something, I had some ridiculous unemployment checks, and fortunately I had *some* money saved. By the time I got a job it was really getting close to, like, moving back home territory, or, getting a really crap sales or restaurant job or something.

Fortunately, this did give me a lot of free time and I used it to finish up some big side projects I'd been working on, plus I greatly expanded my cooking repetoire. I'd often have all afternoon to plan dinner and hours to make it so I started making all kinds of stuff from scratch that I'd probably rarely do now. Like... I made hummous, entirely from scratch. That is, I made my own tahini, fresh lemons, garbanzo beans, etc. I made stuffed meat pies. I made biscotti, pastries, muffins, etc. I made pesto of every description. I tried and failed to grow herbs on our balcony. Good, and bad, times.

Never been able to master stuffed meat pies and would like to. Yours any good? Is there a trick? Maybe we'll send Bobby Flay to your house for a meat pie throwdown.

It's been a while, but yeah, they turned out well. I don't remember a thing about it. However, Alton Brown has what looks like a fantasic episode about pies. Every time I watch his show I get a sudden hankering for whatever he's making.

No kidding. I actually have some of them saved on TIVO - like the one where he butchers the thing you get fillet Mignon from - which you can buy at COSTCO for a song.
