Yes, they do. Which doesn't alter the fact that it is cheating.

The problem here, I think, is that so many of you started playing online you don't know what ethics in poker is. If Rusty was sitting at a live table in a B&M casino and some stud pro was in a chair next to him telling him how to play his hand - they'd both get tossed.

Of course, you can't enforce it very well, can you? Here is what FT had to say when I emailed them today:
Quote:
"Ghosting," or playing online poker while receiving advice or discussing tactics with friends, has been a contentious issue for some time. Full Tilt Poker's position is that poker is a game of skill (and a little luck) in which a player matches their skills against other like-minded individuals.

Full Tilt Poker believes "Ghosting" is unethical, extremely poor poker etiquette, and very much against the spirit of the game. As such, we take a negative view of any player proven to be sharing ideas and taking advice before making any game play decisions. In the past, we have given first and final warnings to players who admit to, or we strongly suspect of, "Ghosting". In the future we may adopt a stricter approach.

Tell you what, tho.' If you think this is OK, then for the SCOOP I'm putting SG on speaker phone and letting him tell me how to play my cards - no doubt he's the best Razz tourny player around. That's ok with you, right?

I thought ghosting was where someone just watched you play and commented on any moves you made and if they were wrong or whatnot after the fact. Not telling the player what to do in the moment.

I didn't really want to get into a debate about this.

I think that's called "coaching." And rather than debate, I just asked FT and Stars about their policies, I think I put FTs response above - here is what Stars' Security told me:
Quote:
PokerStars requires that each account is played by only one player, and each
player may only play on one account.

Of course, there is no way to control where that player might get advice from - if they have a book in front of them that details how to play a hand in a particular way, we do not prohibit that.

Similarly, if they have someone by their side (or on the phone or whatever) giving them advice, this is not possible to prohibit using any commercially available technology today, nor against our rules. As a general principle, PokerStars tries to avoid implementing rules that are impossible to enforce.

Clearly, it would be unreasonable and inappropriate for PokerStars to even consider accessing a user's webcam to figure out who else is in the room - so we don't.

Thus, while we would prefer if 'ghosting' didn't happen, since there is literally no way of enforcing such a rule, we do not have such a prohibition.
Since there is no prohibition, I was thinking of renting out my account to any high stakes player who'd like to have me sit at a table and play my hand for me - I'll take a paltry 15% of the winnings - or - maybe they'd like to stake me to some WCOOP event and then tell me how to play. I'd want a bigger cut, though. Like 30%.

The $ making possibilities are endless for a micro who needs to build a bankroll! And, as it violates no rules, we can have whole threads about how it's going.

(offer only good on PokerStars)

Prax<--thought that webcam comment was freakin' scary -
