I've started playing Stud 8. Is this a profitable way to play trips in this game? Should I have raised 5th?

I would definitely complete 3rd as presumably that's the way you would play a pair of Jacks or a pair of Aces in the hole, and it's not likely to keep a player with Queens or better from entering or a decent low hand from getting involved because they're not going to be scared of Jacks.

Once it's HU I wouldn't worry about "trapping"; you should definitely be raising for value on 5th, and you could potentially get a decent amount of action if villain assumes he has two pair outs for the high pot and is the only hand drawing to the low pot. If villain already has two pair or (you hope) trips, you're missing a ton of value by not raising early on. 4th is perhaps a little closer since the 4D is clearly a brick for you, but in general fast-playing these kinds of hands will rarely kill your action and often lead to good results from villains overplaying their hands.

6th/7th standard.

3rd: Complete
4th and 5th: Raise ... betting 6th and 7th is to late, probably he already has his low so your bet are there unusefull ... only good for rake

Bet more. Pretty much when you have rolled trips, mash the button on the far right until someone gives you a very good reason not to. Someone who hits two pair or little trips or a pair of aces or something is not going to be scared off by you completing third, or betting out on 4th or 5th or even 6th.

Trust me, they can't see those other two jacks.

I sympathise with OP as I used to have the habit of fancy-playing rolled trips (this ^^ mos def is FPS)

I've found that really the times when it's better to play slow are just almost never, very very rare, and JT's maxim "skinny one on the right" is almost always best

It's just too rare to be rolled, villains might suspect it but they will never fold. *

you lose a lot of EV taking this line, might be upto 2bbs less than optimal, as a guess.

* like on 4th, a pretty solid range for you would be JQ/JK/JA/QQ/KK/AA/JJ which is 36 combos, of which rolled Jacks is just one. that case jack rolling off is great for you obv.

Your line would be very good in Stud Hi. But in Stud8 you just cant slowplay rolled-up trips.

That's because your hand can only get high half of the pot so you cant afford to give cheap cards. You need to bet and raise right away and make them pay for drawing to a low hand.

So in this particular hand complete 3rd, raise 4th and raise 5th. 6th and 7th are fine IMO cause villian will sometimes miss his low. Doesnt happen often but often enough to justify increasing the rake.

Waiting to raise until you're heads-up and the other guy might be free-rolling on you can't be right. Raise third. Bet/jam fourth. Raise fifth. Raising sixth is fine, too. Obviously, betting the river with a near-lock can't be all bad.

Also, tend to raise these hands early and often in stud high as well.
