I should be there tonight also and would like to get a O8 5/10 going with kill. Was there last night and there was a list of interest with 8 people on it for 08 5/10 but the floor never opened it. I was pretty disappointed being that was the only reason I went there to play. I asked them why it was not being opened with 8 people on interest list and they said they did not have the dealers or the tables to run it. So I stayed and played some HE hoping they would open the 08. Eventually I did not even see it on the list anymore so I just left. Did leave up, but reason I went was for the 08 which I called casino in advance about and they said there was 6 on interest list. Then when I get there they said they could not play it even with full interest list. I do not understand why they even put it up if they were unable to open it once there was enough players on list, if this was done, it would of saved me a trip there to only play HE.

Two things that freaked me out were that some of the dealers were inducing action, "Come on, make it 6 blind" etc. (not used to this) And how exposed cards are handled with, (instead of deal around, and hand them the burn they appear to just deal them a new card on the spot and continue dealing)

Not a big deal, but I noticed that 2 dealers did it so I assume its just a cardroom rule.

My 2/5 table had good action, but it was like 4-6 handed constantly so I moved to a 1/2 table once a few guys busted out.
Here is my problem with the rule when a card is exposed during the deal.

Some dealers replace the card right away while some deal the hand through then give the player whose card was exposed the last card. A little incosistant in my book...The following scenario however baffled me.....

I was playing 3/6 limit a few nights ago and I had one of the dealers who replaces the exposed card immediately dealing my table. I was UTG and was dealt my first card cleanly. As the dealer went to deal my 2nd card it was exposed which he didn't see and he dealt 3 more cards before noticing. When he noticed he took my other card and pulled it into the muck and dealt the rest of the hand leaving me with no cards. I asked him why I didn't get a hand and he said, "you had an exposed card". I told him so what, just deal the rest of the hand and give me the last card. He told me thats not how it works there. I've been playing at the sands about 3 times a week since they've openned the poker tables and never had or seen that happen. Anyone else seen or had this happen while at a table? Just curious....

Why does this even matter pre or post flop in a fully randomized deck? Any way its resolved has as much chance as helping you or hurting you. So much time is wasted on these meaningless rulings.

Yes its randomized, but one the dealer starts to deal the cards are set..

and mostly becuase it makes the players feel happier that a dealer mistake (card flip) didn't affect their hand they were "supposed" to get.

Giving the burn to the player whose card was exposed only changes their hand, not of the other 9 players and not the board.

I'm just saying it removes/minimizes player superstitions.

I dont like Mt Airy cause of the wait on the weekend to get in a game. Went New Years Day at 11 pm couldnt get in a game for 2 1/2 hours and its the 2nd time it happened plus the size of the poker room makes it feel tight. But out of curiosity, does any straight up Omaha games take place at any time during the week?

Thanks

Got to the Sands last night at 7:45 after sitting in traffic.

I put my name on the omaha8 list, I was #7. And again, no game was called. They did do a roll call of the seven names and 6 out of 7 responded.

I don't care what anyone says, they should make more of an effort to get the game started. I would have no problem playing 6-handed because I know that more players would come.

It's not like that the room was packed, there had to be at least 6 empty tables last night, so space was not an issue. And by adding another game, even shorthanded, adds more to the rake. I really think it's either laziness on the part of some (not all) the floor or certain floor people don't really like or understand omaha8 because some dealers are not as confident dealing it.

On the positive side, I managed a small profit after an up and down session.

Had a pretty mild table with very friendly people. Dealers were all good. The Sands has definately passed Mt. Airy in my book and I think I'll continue to play there.

Right in front of you is table 2 FWIW

Espo - I believe their reasoning in not opening a table 6 handed is because it's half rake, and if one person gets up, leaving 5 at the table, there is usually some nit who will ask the game be broke, even if it's the only O8 going. While I understand your frustration, I think the casino puts off opening a game until they know it will have enough players to sustain itself for a decent length of time, not just an hour or two.

The more players like yourself go, and continue to get put on the list and play, the more it will become a staple of the Sands. Likewise, talk to people at your hold'em tables and try to encourage them to play O8, or try to put together a 2+2 night with people who post regularly here.

I felt the same way about trying to get into 6/12LHE, it just took time.

I don't want to argue, but by that logic no rake is better than half rake.

Worst case scenario is they get half rake at omaha and maybe one hold'em table is reduced to half rake because some players left for the omaha game.
So the casino is taking in two half rakes (which is still more than one full rake). And it was 8pm, so people were still coming in to play holde'em, so that table would only be half rake for a short time. And maybe a few more players decide to try omaha, so that could go to full rake as well. Or if the omaha game breaks after an hour, it's still early enough that the remaining players may go back to a hold'em table.

By my experience running a card room, it takes a little effort by one person to get a game started, and then all of a sudden the table is full.

Just my 2 cents.

Espo,

I share in your anger about the omaha game. I was there also last night and I was the reason they had a roll call. I kept on insisting they open it and every time I asked they said they needed more people on interest list. When i called, the call center said there was 6 on list that if I come it will be 7 and they will open it. When i got there they said they needed 8, then later they said they needed 10. Two of my friends were there, but they left after being annoyed the floor was dicking around about opening it. When they did their roll call it was after two people just got frustrated and left because so much different talk in the time they would open it. Finally i just gave up on it, spoke to the floor in length about my anger and frustration and left. This was the second day in a row the call center told me to come out that it will be open and the second time i was let down. The day prior the floor told me even if they had the interest list full, it would not open because of lack of dealers/tables. If they could not open it, why put a interest list up? What point does that serve? Well, on their behalf, the gentleman that was working the floor was very kind and understanding about my frustration. He apologized and told me next time i call it would not happen like this. I will be there Friday again looking for omaha, hopefully i will see you there espo, this time at the table.

If one of you guys teaches me the basics to playing O8 or w/e it is, if I ever wanted to switch tables during my sessions there, I could easily help you guys start a table going, but obviously I'd have to call it quits since O8 is definitely not tops on my list.

Anyways, tonight got pretty disgusting at one point when 2 friends in their mid-20's sat down and said they were looking for drinks. They both gulped down 3-4 drinks in what seemed like an hour or less of sitting down and then their symptoms started kicking in with constant chatting/laughing/forgetting to post blinds, forgetting who's turn the action was on, etc. Even one of the dealers at one point was so involved in a conversation with half the table, that I think if I counted the hands over an hour, we might of been seeing 15 hands/hour as an over estimate.... it was pretty bad. I felt bad for the guy next to me who got 3 outed and was trying to get back to even after losing a nice pot with J9cc on a Qc10c8x flop, turn 8, they get it all in, the other guy has AA and river is an A to win the pot lol... such a weird beat since the 8c would've given the other guy a straight flush.

A. "Disgusting" is a very harsh term for typical late night B&M poker.

B. Did you not get your share of the drunken players money?

C. Bad beats are part of them game - everyone takes them - sometimes players get real lucky and walk away with $126,000 for their beating!!!

D. I was at that table from 7 pm to 5 am and saw nothing out of the ordinary.

@PASANDSMAN, I think that was me sitting to your right on Wednesday night at the 1-2 table.

Cant make it Friday, I run a cardroom in NJ and my Fridays are booked.

I may make a Sands run Sunday evening, then I'm off to Vegas on Monday. Plenty of Omaha8 being spread there!!!

A. Okay, maybe it wasn't disgusting, but you catch my drift, you have to admit at one point that table moved awfully slow when that one dealer came through, I think we may have played a full orbit during his entire shift at our table.

B. No I did not. In fact I was losing for about the last hour or 2 before I left, which is the reason I decided to quit in the first place.

C. Yes they are. That sometimes, is so seldom though, that even online players have trouble losing with quads or a straight flush to a better hand.

Bad beat jackpot of 280K was hit last night. Was at a short-handed game also with only 8 players i believe. Was the fifth time I was there that it hit and the second time it hit at a table right next to the one I was playing at. Do the math on that one, hit five times with majority of times having only 12 tables in cardroom, was there all times never involved. Sucks losing that coinflip. On another note, the omaha game had a list of interest of as many as 8 players last night. Of course the floor never tried to get it going, do any of you know of any other local PA casinos offering omaha on a regular basis or more frequently? I just about had enough of sands until it is spread more often or at least with some type of method such as 8 on list, they open table. There was like 15 HE tables running and with 8 on O8 list, there was no reason why they could not open it. Played HE for about 5 hours, same type of play as always there, broke even after session.

Parx has O8 spread every day. They had an 8/16 HOSE this past weekend too.

Probably because the list is 6 hours old and nobody shows up when they call it?

O8 was spread again last night from about 10PM to 3AM. It was a full table for some time. It also was a 5/10 limit with full kill. Game was very good, players were all very friendly and helpful to other players as well as confused dealers. Thank you sands floor for making a good attempt to get players together and opening the game. The dealers would state up front if they were confused dealing and the players would help them along. There are also many dealers there that truly enjoy dealing this game and look forward to it. They usually get tips from both hi and lo hands so it is like double pay for them as well. If you are new to O8, it is a good game to get into as far as other players helping you learn the low hand etc. There is rarely any conceded player there who would look down at you for asking, at least I never came across one. Very fun and social game that I hope we can get to run there daily.

Today at 6PM will be a O8 H/L 5/10 w/ kill. So far I know of 5 people that will be there and ready to play. You guys wanting to try it out, today is your chance at 6PM. Usually floor will call game if 7 people are there and ready to play. Hopefully we get two more to come and open the table. See you there.

Add me to the list. This will be my 3rd try at playing o8 at Sands. Its rough driving 1hr to play and no game. Six to seven players on the list and the floor would call each player one by one after 3hrs of waiting. NOT COOL. Call the game and get it started short. Stop being a nit Sands floor people. You don't need 8+ players to start a game. Please make an effort to get the game off the ground. Comps for a meal?

I am interested in Omaha HL8 as well. I may make the trip up there tonight based on this post. I live about an hour away and this is the only game I will play. Last time I called up there and they said a game was going. I arrived and 5 people were playing. I sat down and the game lasted less than an hour.

Bottomline, it would be really nice if I somehow "knew" a game was going with the number of players.

I see that Parx has a live casino game report online. It does not tell you the number of players but it does tell you when a game goes "live".

Does Sands have this system (I think it is called "Bravo").

Sands does not have a bravo system. They do have a call center you can call and ask operator about the games going. They will even tell you if there are interest lists there and how many are on them. You can not add your name over phone, but it is helpful to check on waitlists, available games, etc. I will be there tonight for O8 at around 6, we should have a good game if you all show up. Later

Just to clarify, Sands poker room does use the Bravo System - that's how you get your comps, are checked in an out of tables and the podium knows when empty seats are available at any given table / knows what table to send you to.

What they don't have is a web integration for the Bravo system.
