Saw this on Parqs website today

"Parq Vancouver is opening a poker room on level 2 featuring six tables of action. More details to come. Stay tuned!"

They are moving the room to where the high limit slots used to be. It's still under construction, we should know the opening date soon. Games will be PLO, 1/3, 2/5. 6 tables to start off, gauge demand and add tables later on.

6 tables is brutal. Didn't the past growth of poker at Parq for 6-11 tables already prove the demand? Opening with only 6 killed poker enough already once, now they're doing this **** again.

If it's because of limited people for some law I understand. But to pretend the demand has to be proven is just dumb. It's already been done.

I played at Parq during 2019 and the first bit of 2020.

As many have stated, the lineups were often 1 - 2 hours long even with 9 to 11 tables as they expanded during that period i believe.

Not sure the rationale for limiting it to 6 tables. Wait times for 6 tables would be close to 2+ hours, which would be a pain in the a* even after calling in etc. Or the most casual players would just give up.

It may be the limited legacy / grandfathered Edgewater overall table licenses, but couldn't they just carry forward the same number to poker as they had pre pandemic?

Afaik the covid restrictions that were lifted last week state that there are no more restrictions on capacity or on moving between tables in a restaurant (or in our case, casino).

You are right, by law parq has same number of tables as edge did. But unless they have been filling every blackjack and baccarat table since they reopened, and thus think they can fill even more, I think we all agree that "waiting for demand" is BS.

Yes, 11am on Sun Nov 14
https://www.parqvancouver.com/casino/poker/

Looks like they've expanded it to 8 tables, updated from 6 tables in the same copy earlier in the week.
"Feature 5 big screen TVs and 8 gaming tables"

lol maybe they heard the outcry here re 6 tables and BS re "demand" when it' been clearly demonstrated we have long wait times even with 11+ tables.

Looking forward to seeing how many us here will be playing downtown at Parq now.

Has anyone played at Parq since it opened? Which games were running, how long was the list, how was the overall experience?

Hey guys, I am interested in pursuing live tournament play. I'd love to get some experience and eventually land some scores that end up on the Hendon Mob Database. My long term goal is to eventually travel out to the WSOP and play and cash in events there.

What is the best way as a Vancouver local to get some live tournament experience? I remember the casinos use to have those quick turbo style tournaments, but I don't really count those for building experience due to the quick structure.

Do any poker tours still come through the city? I remember there were BC Poker Championship events before but not sure if that still goes on. Or would I need to travel to other cities like Seattle, Montreal, Las Vegas to be able to play tourneys?

Wait lists are nuts at the Parq. They could use 7 more tables.

I played an afternoon session yesterday (saturday) and it feels like pre pandemic poker. I'm not a reg at Parq, but even I can tell it's the same o'l regs and dealers.

Games weren't too nitty, some action at times. If you've played at Parq, it's pretty much the same vibe before the shut down.

I like how you can use the Poker Atlas app on mobile to join wait listed games and to check in once you at the premise. You have 90 mins to check in and you get a text when your seat is ready.

FYI, the room does not have a cash cage. So you have to walk across the gaming floor to grab chips initially when first sit and also when you want to cash out. Chip runners will grab your reloads/add on's, or the dealer will sell it to you from their float.

Why do you care about the Hendon mob database? Ego?

And we have no real tournaments in Vancouver.

I have put more time, energy and passion into poker than anything else in my life, so it would just be nice to have something to show for it and have some level of accomplishment in the game.

I have my personal records and PokerTracker stats, but that is different. I hide all my Sharkscope stats so that is unavailable as well.

Parq yes, but Grand Villa hit or miss. There were times they scanned, and some just looked at it along with my ID.

I haven't played casino cash game in almost 3 years now, but I am planning to move to Burnaby in a few months. Hopefully COVID will have slowed down from where it is now and the Grand Villa poker room will be on the go. Would you guys say that it is the biggest casino poker room in the lower mainland? Hopefully not filled with grinder regs I hope.

Closest casino for me right now is Parq, but it was a pretty small number of tables from what I remember in 2019. I'm pretty much just grinding Pokerstars for now.

I just checked all the local casino websites and all poker rooms look to be "temporarily closed". Phoned the local casino room and they say the room is "temporarily on pause".

ETA: I'm assuming this is due to some new mandate, but perhaps I'm wrong? I know Coronaids recently took out a huge percentage of dealers, so now I'm wondering if that could be the reason...

ETA#2: After a quick look at the BCLC website, looks like it is likely a mandated thing.
