If I can only buy in for 200 for 1-2, is there anyway you guys would change that? It seems advantageous to the casino to have deeper stacks starting on the table while still allowing people to buy in for shorter if they aren’t confident in their game/ wanna limit losses I guess. Thanks for a reply.
Hi Jk...The 1-2 buy in is and always has been a max of $200 here at TS. We did try to change it to a $300 max when I first came here but a large number of our guests did not respond positively to the change. To be more accommodating to all, we did / do offer a Super 1-2 with a $300 max buy-in and also a 1-3 with a $300 max. Both games are always available to spread and all you need to do is start a list. Depending upon what players are in the room will determine which game plays. The 2-5 is a $500 max and the Super 2-5 is a $1000 max. The same principal of accommodation was applied there as well Hope that helps!

I bet if you guys made it so there always had to be at least 1 of the 1-2 $300 max tables running before you allowed more 1-2 $200 tables to open, it would be more likely to eventually take off and eventually stamp out $200 max. I can't tell you how many cash game players only play at TS on big tournament weekends instead of becoming a true regular just because the 1-2 $200 max is just too difficult to many any money in due to stack sizes in relation to the rake.

I feel like my suggestion could be a good compromise for both player-bases.

Thanks Arch, I appreciate the suggestion. The only issue/concern is, you cannot ask/force players to wait until one game opens before starting the game they want. That's not good from a business standpoint nor acceptable customer service. Eventually, guests will just stop coming if they have to wait until we say its time to play. As stated previously, the $200 max is a staple here at TS, many of our 1-2 guests are very dedicated to that buy in and that is very difficult to change. Again, we do offer the $300 max on a DAILY basis, its in our lineup of games. If what you stated about the many cash players you mentioned above is accurate, all they need to do is come in, get on the list and we will open as many 1-2 $300 games as the room can hold. During Tournament time, when those players mentioned are here, we do not see an increase in the $300 max waiting list. The $200 max should not affect the opening of $300 max games if the majority of guests in the room want to play $300 max in lieu of $200 max. Thanks Arch!

$200 20 years ago is about $300 now.

It's time to kill $200 max!

Although your math is right, the demand simply is not there. For those who wish, the man already said they'd spread it for you - but they're not about to start hiring shills to get it going for you. At some point grassroot demand needs to take hold.

If you want to play bigger so bad, seat open, 2-5.

Baghil is right. Turning Stone has always been very accommodating about opening non-standard games upon request if the players are there. If you know some people who want to play 300 max, organize them and get a game running. TS is not going to change their standard game format to something that 80% of the player pool doesn't want.

On a different topic, I can't find anything about the November tourney series listed on the website or Bravo yet, aside from the direct pdf file that was in a previous post. Looks like it will be a good series but I hope they get it advertised soon so that enough players know about it.

Hi B...The series is out in the monthly mailer and will be available on the website shortly. Thank you!

Just as an aside, we do have 20/40, 50/100 and 75/150 games here at Turning Stone! Thanks!

Agree with this. Idk why you can just make it a 300 max game. People can buy in for what they are comfortable losing. Not sure why you would want less money on table as a casino but that is just my thoughts. I feel the degens will still play if it’s a 300 max game vs 200. Just my thoughts.

Please see post #1703 above, as I addressed the original question there. Thank you.

If relative stack size doesn't seem to make a difference to you, why not sit at the 2-5 game with $300? That game is usually running at TS.

Because 2-5 is a different stake than 1-2? Is that a serious post?

It was stated in response to the post that said:

"Idk why you can just make it a 300 max game (sic). People can buy in for what they are comfortable losing."

I could say the same thing about buying in at 2-5. Buy in for $300 if that's the max your bankroll will allow.

"Stake" isn't just defined by the size of the blinds. So if one wants to tinker with the 1-2 max buy-in, they are effectively putting shorter stacks at a disadvantage. And if they see nothing wrong with that, I see nothing wrong by inviting them to sit at 2-5 with their $300 buy-in.

I could understand people complaining if TS dragged their heals to start a different game when asked (like they were guilty of several years ago). But in recent years, they have been very willing to spread whatever was asked of them.

Once more people wish to have a $300 max buy-in for 1-2 NL, I'm sure you'll see it played on a more regular basis.

But the vast majority of rec players in that room, at this time, prefer not be up against starting stacks larger than $300. That's a simple fact.

Why would I buy in to a game for 60bbs? Super obnoxious. Why would someone buy into a tougher game with a shorter stack honestly? You come off as a clueless muppet in this post. This is why I consider tstone to be a joke. You have all the casinos in the area offering 300 max buy in (Del lago, rivers) and tstone sticks to archaic standards.

You can’t honestly tell me the degens aren’t going to be playing and you see a material change in # of players between a 200 and 300 dollar buy in game. If you change the buyin to a 300 max, I’m sorry but you still are going to have the same # of players grinding cash but with more $ on the table and better action prolly.

Again, and respectfully, we do offer 1-2 with a 300 max every day of the week, 24/7, 365 a year. I will ignore the reference to our property being a joke and/or archaic...everyone is entitled to their own opinions but not their own facts. One huge fact not being considered is I am here everyday talking with and listening to our guests that do show up to play here, not just the ones who MIGHT show up to play if I offer 300 max instead of 200 max. Newer properties in any business have the ability to offer what the latest trends are because there is no need to offer past options. There is no history to compare or reflect on, there is no existing player base to consider because they are starting anew to build one. When you have done business for 25 years and have the best interest of all your guests in mind you do not take away what your established loyal guests are comfortable with, are used to and want/prefer. You add to what you offer... not force and squeeze guests into what you feel they should be playing. That is their choice, their option and it always will be.
This will be my last post on this subject. As I have offered to 2+2 posters numerous times in the past, please feel free to stop in and speak with me face to face about this subject. Due to time constraints, I can be more open, detailed and factual in person than I can be in an open forum. I have no problem taking time to talk and explain my points. In my opinion, face to face conversation is always better and much more conducive than social media when engaging in point/counter-point discussion. Thank you!

I get where you are coming from. It just looks like the 1-2 300 max doesn’t run often if at all from what I’ve seen on bravo. I will say this: the high hand promos tstone is running during thanksgiving weekend are pretty awesome.

You guys may not know just how lucky you are, having a room rep who'll respond to most any decent questions in this online forum. I think I can count on one hand the active participants in specific casino forums.

Just sayin'....and no, I've never met or sought out Frankie. I've played at TS perhaps 10x lifetime.

This speaks to the demand (or lack thereof) for 300 max. While I personally would rather play 300 max than 200 max, that is not the majority opinion among the regular 1/2 players. Turning Stone is going to spread the games that the majority of their regular players prefer.

If you happen to have enough players there that want to play 300 max, Turning Stone will run it. They had no problem running a 2/5/10 NL this weekend upon request for us even though it's not a standard game.

I'm not going to resort to your petty name calling - I'll leave that to those with character insecurities. That said, lets say I'm a casual 1-2 NL player and I like to buy-in for $100 at a time. Why would I want to buy in to a game where monster stacks surround me? The larger the rebuy, the deeper the game will play. As 1-2 is the entry level to NL, that's my only choice. I'm at a disadvantage if average stack size is $400+ and I'm buying in for $100 at a time. Or even $200 at a time.

My point is, you increase the max buy-in, and you effectively play deeper. Short stacks will get muscled around. I'm sure your solution is to buy in for the max. But my point above is that, some are only comfortable, or only budget for, $100 bullets. Or even $200 bullets. Increasing the max to $300 starts to make some players feel uncomfortable and puts the game out of their reach. OR, puts them at a disadvantage. So for all of those reasons, no poker room has an incentive to force such a change on its players if there is insufficient demand for it.

As I said before, TS has demonstrated that it will spread whatever game there is demand for. I remember the days when fixed limit was predominant. As player demand changed, so did the games offered.

Full disclosure: I know Frankie. I met him 9 months ago. I've said hello to him 5-6 times and he once gave me a TS card protector.
