100 BB cap vs. 200 BB cap matters, no matter the $$ amount buy-in. I'm not rolled to play 2/5, but I want room to maneuver.

Lots of excitement around town about the Shoe now that the Strike is closing it's room. Before we just felt ok more TVs, phone chargers at the table, nicer chairs, free wifi big deal.

One of the questions I will ask the Shoes manager tomorrow is will they be running more and or larger tourney series next year. If you or anyone has a question about the shoe post it here and I will ask it tomorrow.

Can you ask if any plans to cap the $2/5 and try to get a $5/10 going every weekend?

Also, ask her the hard questions about rake increase or comps going away.

I heard one of the tables at new room is going to be setup to be a feature table. Can you get more details on that?

Wow so now there will only be two poker rooms in Tunica? The one at Hollywood and the one at Horsehoe? Since I heard Harrah's is closing their poker room when the new one at Horseshoe opens. That's sad. Used to be 5 poker rooms in Tunica and now only going to be two, guess the poker boom is way over.

Harrah's closing their poker room was pure conjecture. I posted that here, so unless you have heard that from a reliable source outside of this board, it is probably just a rumor.

In fact, I would say chances of Harrah's closing now are pretty slim with the news of Goldstrike closing.

I think everyone though at some point Goldstrike was probably going to close, but no one expected it to happen this soon.

I've never played at Hollywood. How is the game there? 1/2 or 1/3 spread? Buy-in cap? Number of tables? Thanks for the info.

I believe it's just a low limit tourist trap complete with terribad dealers

I've never played at Hollywood either, but have only heard bad things about it, including that they are very rude to new people who try and join a game there and all the regs basicly try to run them off, not many games, bad rude dealers, I haven't ever heard one good thing about the Hollywood games, ever.

I went to Hollywood once. We called ahead and they said they were spreading $1/2. We got there and only two $3/6 games were going plus a small tournament.

Alrighty then, Hollywood is out. Thanks for the info, all.

Yeah, Tunica's basically a one room town now.

I played at the Hollywood once in some low buy-in rebuy donkament. Ended up cashing against terribad competition, but it was a miserable experience. Dealers super slow, the other players are really trashy & scummy--there's a toothless old tiny Asian woman that was literally the worst behaved poker player I have ever seen in my life. she was apparently a regular, too!

Last edited by Tom Bayes; 11-15-2013 at 02:03 PM. Reason: Yes, Harrah's is still there, but I don't see why you'd play there rather than the Shoe

Right now there is no plans for a rake increase and the comps may actually improve but not going away. The cap on the 2/5 will remain the same. The Horseshoe room will have 26 tables and will spread any size game people want.

The Shoe will be having atleast 3 major tourney events yearly, the tourneys will be played at the Roadhouse next door in a conference room. They are trying to get a Wsop circuit event but that is up in the air as Tunica already has one at Harrahs.

Harrahs is not closing as rumored they are actually hiring new dealers and staff. The Horseshoe's new room opens Dec 12th with the grand opening set for Jan 26 with many fantastic promotions that I am not able to publish yet.

Two CE's would be awesome. It is not unheard of either, but it is usually the bigger poker markets that have those.

It is comforting that Shoe is going to be very aggressive.

Grand opening the same time as the circuit event will be going on. Don't know if that's a good thing or not.

As a local I don't like it if there were just locals at the grand opening I would have a better chance at winning some of the great prizes and promotions that will be given away.

Whoever runs Gold Strike Poker's FB page said they were planning some big giveaways, promotions, etc as the closing date approaches. Obviously, they have to give away any BBJ money. Have they been promoting anything specific? I'm hoping to come to Tunica for a few days in December.

The haven't finalized the giveaways yet but the last I heard they will start Jan 1, they have $140,000 to give away.

Sad to hear the news about Goldstrike.

One of my favorite poker memories was in that room. Was 19 (24 now) and got in with my brothers ID. Sat down at 1/2 nervous as hell (first live poker experience). Waited for pocket pairs and AJs+. A couple hours pass and Im around $150

Limped with pocket 4's, going to flop 5 handed. 4 Q J rainbow. I forget the action but it ended up with me all in vs 2 callers on the flop. One guy had QJ and the other guy held AT....my 4's held and I raked in around a $500 pot. At the time, I felt like I had just won the lottery, such an adrenaline rush. I left 10 min later lol, wasnt gonna push my luck anymore.

RIP Goldstrike
