Hi everyone,,,
I am new to 2+2. I just happened to come across it while doing a web search. What a great site!!
Does anyone know much about the WSOP academy that is being given at the Showboat this weekend? Has anyone ever taken it in which could provide me feedback?
My friend and I want to sign up but are hesitant till we find out more about it. We both are intermediate players. We play low limits on the weekends.
HELP!! I know there is someone out there is the poker world who has or knows of someone who has taken this camp.

Thanks in advance. We will take all the advice we could get on this.

Wow! Thanks for all the responses everyone! I have a lot of information to take to my director. Keep thinking of more ideas and I will gladly relay the message. I'm glad that my thread is getting a lot of interest because it tells me that you all want to see this room grow too. I could see the frustration of the floor people, the dealers, and also the players had grown over the last few months. I have definitely noticed a reduction of volume in the past few months even when the bad beat was high.

Honestly, I think a lot of everyone's complaints has a lot to do with the fact that we have transitioned from having poker as our own "entity" to being combined with table games. After our Poker Manager lost his job, we were combined with table games, not only with scheduling, but also with management staff running the room. We also lost 2 of our own managers this year and 2 supervisors (other reasons, however..) A lot of us are still adjusting to the new feel of the room and the table games managers are still in the learning process. I do agree that more training should have been implemented before the transition of our room occurred, but we had to make due..

After several weeks now, the managers are a lot more confident of what they are doing and have been welcomed into our "family." A family is exactly what I consider my co-workers and I am sure Rod feels the same way. When something happens to one of us, it happens to all of us. That's why me and several other dealers are stepping up to see what we can do to improve this room the way it should. As much as the upper management wants us to show success, the bottom line is that they are much more knowledgable about table games and not poker. They are learning the ropes as well. Once they get an understanding of what we want, what the customers want, and what will work in our room, things will be great in our room.

All of your responses will definitely be brought up, and hopefully we can get many of them to happen. It will require patience though, as all of these improvements will have to be taken to upper management and will be debated on whether or not it can be done cost effectively or not, especially until our economy improves and the casino industry starts seeing better numbers.

By the way, if any of you think of anything and you don't want to post it on here, PM me or Rod, or if you are in the room just give us a shout. Most of you have met Rod, but there are several of you I haven't met yet. I'm the curly haired Mike with glasses (not the skinny white Mike with glasses.. LOL)

Congratulations Showboat! With the possible implementation of a BBJ at Borgata sounding more like reality instead of rumor (possibly before the end of the year), I am now forced to play the poker lottery (as all AC rooms now have a BBJ). Therefore, I will have no reason to play just at Borgata, and will pledge today to give 100% of my poker business to Showboat.

Signed,

this is probably not going to a popular point of view, but i wanted to voice it anyway: fewer TVs please.

one of the things i like about the current showboat room is that it feels classier and more sociable than most or all of the other rooms in AC (even the Borgata, imo). A big part of this is that there aren't big screen TVs in your face all the time.

First, I'm a player of the game and in no way know what it takes to run a room. Nor do I know what will really work and what is really possible logistically. So I'm just going to through out ideas:

I know the tournament business seems pretty solid, as it. Every tournament I play in always seems to have a good number of runners. I generally play on weekends but was down a few mid-week days during the Summer and even then seemed good. With the winter, I don't know how consistent that traffic is. That said, has there been any discussions regarding running other tournament formats?

I know someone above mentioned gauranteed tournaments. But what about different formats: turbo, rebuy, or even deepstack. What about the last Saturday of the month has a $300 deepstack at 2:00PM. I noticed that Bally's is running turbo tournaments at 6PM on Sunday night. 12 minute levels.

Also with tournaments, what about SNGs? The only time I've seen them offered is when you are doing the $25 sat into "The Tournament". There are times where I don't really feel like playing cash, but I've just busted out a tournament. I'd be down for a $60 STT.

Recently heard a story from someone who was playing in San Diego at some indian casino. Said that during Monday Night Football, every time the Chargers scored, $100 was added to the next pot. Which is crazy to think about at 1/2. Again, I don't know how logistically possible this is - whether or not the NJ CCC even would allow that - but maybe there could be promotions, like this, tied in to the local teams.

And as another real off the wall suggestion.. I didn't play in the tournament, but I remember you that one of the big tournaments had Stephen Lynch playing in it before he performed at HOB. Could there be more opportunities like this, even in the daily tournaments? Obviously, not every musician is going to want to play poker. But I'd figure there are avenues to explore marketing opportunities like this, depending on what the exact relationship is between the poker room, Harrahs, and the House of Blues music hall.

Beyond that, I'm not sure what I would suggest. I don't park at Showboat, so I don't need a parking voucher.. I get rooms at Caesars, so I'm not looking for hotel. Customer service has always been good - good dealers, good floors. Never an issue for me.

Good luck with everything, I hope things work out for the best.

If someone is playing in a tournament and can't leave the table or find a waitress pick up the house phone and place the frigging order for him!
The one time I had an issue with the waitress the poker room staff got me almost immediate resolution once I brought it to their attention.

I've never played a tourney at the Boat where the dealers did not have this info.

This happened to me once as well, but in my experience it is the exception rather than the rule.

My winter break from work is comin up at the end of the month (2 weeks of paid days off without burning a single vacation day! Wooooot!!)

Usually I play my cash games at the Borg and my tourneys at the Boat but with a good (Trop-esque) rate I could see myself staying for a few days and never leaving Showboat!!

Pls to be finalizing this posthaste!!!

Love the idea of having a deep stack tournament with slower blind levels maybe like a $200 tournament 30 minute levels and $20k in chips keep the same blind levels just to keep it running smooth and not drag 12 + hours maybe have it like once a month..

This +1

Although 200 might be too close to the big "The Tournament" series buy in. How about 155+20?

I've seen these comments but for some reason I never have a problem. I was there Friday and after I bust out of the 11 AM tourney I play a couple hours of 2/4. It was a new table and the floor swipes in the whole table at once. When I rack up I go to the desk to have them swipe me out before going to the cage to cash out. While there I also ask for a parking voucher. The floor (tall young guy whose name I can never remember) taps on the keyboard for a few seconds and prints one out for me. No hassle, no big deal and the cashier give me my $5.

QFT and as far as I'm concerned most of the dealers are great as well.

Was one of the Mikes that post here the dealer that lost his nametag on Friday afternoon? I didn't realize it but I guess it against New Jersey CCC regulations to deal without a nametag. It caused a stir for a few minutes and they gave us a substitute dealer while they searched for his nametag and finally made a temporary one for him.

I like the Boat. I was in town for the 2 PM boat-a-ment on Fri. Did very well 3 way deal at the end. Kelly busted me for playing a cash game at the same time as the tourny. She was very nice about it. And everyone at the table thought it was funny.

The only thing that I would like is a SNG with around 100-120 buy in with 3 places paid. I think lots of people would like the 3 payout SNG, but thats just what I enjoy the most. Oh yeah the other thing would be to give us all a mouse to use.

Keep up the good work at the boat. The dealers make it happen and I think there are lots of friendly ones on the payroll.

I love the Showboat because of the friendly dealers and the laid back atmosphere, but I probably wouldn't play another SNG there because of the structure. I realize that live SNGs are, by their nature, very fast moving. But I don't think I got $75 worth of play when I played one about two months ago. It also didn't help that some of the players agonized over every decision for probably a minute and we only played 6-7 hands at a couple of the blind levels.

agreed, I asked them to make a better one when you used to get like 1k in chips 10 m in blind levels, but they didnt improve it well enough to compete with other sngs in the city as usual.

Not likely. They usually only get those games running on the weekend/holidays.
