Atrain,

I have tried to get PLO, Mixed games going...it is tough...

All I can say is go and start an "of interest" list...then when you sit down at a table, 1/2 NL, 2/4 whatever, ask the players there if they'd be interested.

The Boat will spread the game, but generally you need to get the interest going yourself...

The huge majority of players these days at B & M's are just interested in HE...limit or no limit...

Regardless of all the talk here and else where on the forums, getting and Sustaining an omaha game is tough.

Twice I have put out a call here about getting a game going on a Saturday, I get 5-7 people saying, yeah, cool, i'll be there, and then when push comes to shove only a couple actually show up.

One time I actually got 4 people to show up so we had 5 people and when I said lets get the game started 2 of the people didn't want to play short handed...

I argued that if we get the game going and its actually playing, people will fill in, at least a couple, but no they wouldn't go for it....

As I said it is a tough game to get started, especially at the lower stakes....

I say just keep trying. Also, just like you guys do in the 5/5 game stay on the floors and pits about announcing that there is a list of interest for those games (or open seating, lets hope). The reason they never call it is because all the main games we have are on the first page of the list and they have to press a button to view the second page. If you ask them to they will gladly announce that there is a list of interest for whatever game you want to play. If you get enough people on that list they have no choice but to open a game. Don't hesitate to walk right over to the Taj either an ask some of their O8 player if they want to play at the Boat as I have played O8 there a # of times and they are all sick of the place. They just can't leave because there are no low limit omaha 8 games anywhere else in the city.

I'm going to be coming in for my weekly poker night on Friday (instead of my usual Thursday.) I'm thinking to try the Boat instead of the usual Borg, and I'll be arriving at about 7PM. Is there usually a 2/5NL or 5/5NL going on at that time, and, if so, is there usually a wait to get in? I'm spoiled by being able to walk in and sit right down to a game. . . .
07-30-2008 , 03:55 PM
Yes. . usually a game. If not there is definitely a list and as long as you are willing to play short for a few hands (if it isn't a full list) the game will take off. There are a couple people that never have a problem getting the floor to open a 2/5 or 5/5. Build it and they will come.
07-30-2008 , 04:00 PM
See you on Friday. I'll let you know who I am AFTER the session. ;-)

I will be down around 9pm and will be up for either 2/5 or 5/5....

The 2/5 is almost a guaranteed go on Friday night, and the 5/5 will go if enough people want to move to that....the only real difference is the buy-in...

For 2/5 its 100/500 (i think...maybe 200, but I am pretty sure its just 100 for min) and for the 5/5 its 300/1000....

Games play pretty much the same and the talent is about the same.

I'm certainly for the 5/5. I've always thought 200BB was more appropriate for live play anyhow.

Very much looking forward to playing a new room.

quick little trip report of showboat. I played last week 7/22 (tuesday). I arrived just before 10 to find only one table open, 1/2NL. That was to be expected since it was an early weekday morning, so I put myself on the list (I was the list) and sat there with my thumb up my ass for 30 minutes before I went to play BJ for a shoe.
At 11, I entered the $65.00 tourney and made myself look like a complete sucker. There were about 8 of us at the table sometime in the 2nd level when a latecomer came and sat down across from me in seat1. I must have been hypnotized by his numerous tattoos or all his bling, but here's what happened. again, I'm a sucker. I have A-10, latecomer makes it 1,000, announcing he didn't look at his cards yet, but since he's late etc... At the time I have about 13k so I call. Flop 8,2,2. Again, he says he didn't look at his cards yet, and bets 1k. Now I did watch this guy quite a bit and I sure didn't see him look. again, I'm a sucker. After his 1k bet, I liked my odds and said all in. he of course flips over AA. He lied to me. bastard!
It was cool, I was laughing saying I swear I was watching him nearly the whole time and I didn't see him look. WTF are the odds of him getting AAfirst hand (I know, 220-1, but still...). The best part was when the dealer's sliding him the chips he goes "I'm from S. Philly bro" like I was an idiot for being born anywhere else in the country. First off, I like S Philly. My mom was born there and my gmom lived there for years and I used to visit often, but if you're from S Philly, it really isn't anything to brag about. no offense...
I went all in a couple times after then was out. fine with me. Played 1/2nl for a couple hours dropping about $50.00 then played the 2pm tourney.
As for the 2pm tourney, it seems at another table a middle eastern guy and another player were going at it. Not sure what happened, but I heard/saw security kicking the guy out, BUT WAIT, he's back in. I heard he was kicked out but can finish the tourney (?!?). I think the guy he was arguing with was busted on the hand, but I'm not sure. Anyway, I had the mispleasure of being moved next to the guy when it got down to about 14 (49 to start). In the short time I was next to him he was unbearable. Regulars might recognize him. He used a small diamond as a card protector. very odd.
Anyway, I busted out around 13th then went to play 1/2nl.
As for my 2nd adventure on the 1/2NL table, things got much, much better. When I sat down to very little space in seat 6, I asked the guy in 5 if he could move to his right since he was my half of the table. Ohhh nooo, it seams we play between the cupholders here. The guy in 7 seat moved over unhappily. It seems there was a previous argument about the cupholder/real estate rules previoiusly at the table before my arrival.
As for the play, I bought in for 300 and noticed that several stacks were less than 100. I was thinking of going to the borgata instead to play a bit higher, but thankfully I stayed. About 30 minutes in I flopped quad 6's and stacked 2 guys for about $300 or so (it was last week, so my numbers won't be perfect). About an hour later I flopped quad q's. Here's the boneheaded part I guess. Since I raised pre I went with a cont bet. fold fold. oh well.
Later I had T8dd. flop j,q,k. all diamonds. nice. I think I won about $450 on that when I called another guy's all in, plus another guy had quite a bit in there as well before he folded. After the hand I was just saying I was worried about the higher flush (not really) when I was advised my call was a no brainer by some guy in a Full Tilt Phil Ivey jersey. seriously, how does someone wear that. I asked how many points for the jersey. 125K points to look like a boob in case you're wondering.
Anyway, I cashed out $1210.00. Up $650.00 for the day. I talk to my wife, who is at her parents house in barnegut (sp?) where we're staying on vaca. She tells me to come right home and skip the BJ table. Of course I don't listen and lose $150.00 in one shoe.
For the day, i won $500.00. vacation got better.
As for the showboat, nice room. I had a burger and later some good chicken fingers for dinner while I was playing from the house of blues. both were good. There was an older guy who 2x got some kind of marinare sauce or something on the cards. How someone eats while still in the hand, getting the cards greasy is beyond me. They had to change the decks. delay...
Also, during a color break during my 2nd tourney, I swear I was shorted by about 4.5k when I came back to the table. The next color break I was sure to sit there while she did it, and she almost messed up again.
Also, I saw one guy being physically removed from the table by security after bitching at some players for a few minutes. If anyone knows what happened there I'd love to hear it (around 8pm or so at a window table 1/2).

Also, I made my virgin trip to the foxwoods poker room two days later when I was visiting my brother and friends (I'm from CT, live in atlanta). Sat at a 2/5 table and won 1200.00 in about 4 hours (brag). wow, what a freakin' room. I want to move back to CT now...

Nice trip report and good winnings down there.... anyone going to be there Thrusday night 7-31? i should be down
07-30-2008 , 08:21 PM
LOL. .you got to meet the South Philly guy! That isn't the first time that he has used that line. He just isn't smart enough not to know that it isn't bragging to say that one is from South Philly. Again, nothing wrong with the nice normal person from S.Philly, but I'm sure this guy had his 89' IROC parked out in the parking garage and still thinks of it as a chick magnet!! hahaha

...
Don't know his real name, but he calls everybody "snake" and he is called "snake"...he used to be a regular at the Hilton, and I am sure he also plays at the Taj...Personally I think he is a major jerk....thinks he's sammy faha or something...btw...not a real diamond...lol

He tends to be all over the place, drinks a lot, tends to not pay a lot of attention, ends up making wrong bet amonts, just calling when its a raise, etc....I keep a very close eye on him when I am playing....in tournaments I have taken a lot a chips from him.
07-31-2008 , 10:54 AM
He is a little crazy, he only plays the 7pm tournaments normally, so I have only dealt to him a few times. When I am leaving the SB and he is coming in he is always saying hello asking me how I am doing and stuff. Seems like a really nice guy to me. Obv, his table banter is crossing the line a bit most people seem to be a bit annoyed by him.
07-31-2008 , 11:04 AM
His problem is that he drinks too much at the table....and then gets really obnoxious.
07-31-2008 , 11:14 AM
yea I am not usually there late enough to see those time, good thing I guess.

A side note. How old is this girl? I thought she was 18 or so, up until there was a floor call at our table and she was called over. Now I think she may be 12

She listened to a simple action out of turn scenario, said something like "ummm i dunno", and then she had to get another floor to make the ruling.

She just got the promotion to D/R about 2 weeks ago...she still needs some more training...not the best situation...

Positive note is that she actually admitted that she wasn't sure and went to get someone else to help make a decision. Better she do that than just make a guess.

I can say it because taste varies. Kellie would have to pay me to bone her, whereas I would give Yessica half my BR for 30 minutes. YMMV
