Thank you everyone else for your polite answers.
I am sorry I came off like I did, I did not intend to. I guess because I work there it was more obvious to me where the new room would be located, and oh yea I knew where to look .

But she used to be a former dealer, so she's not just another suit that comes in and has no idea about poker or how to handle the day to day operations.

Anyone know what will be made of the old room? Showboat already has their own section of the casino floor for Asian gambool, so I'm curious to see what would happen to that space.

It would be cool if the 1st floor was cash games and the 2nd floor room was for tournaments, but since the tournaments average 70-90 people, it would be a major waste of space.
Lol at the Kellie comment, why not also mention the fact that she is also one of the most professional people in the business?

Its a game the runs every weekend. Almost all regs in the game with the occasional random mixed in. The game is pretty soft imo, but all the players know each other so maybe they were thinking on multiple levels??? doubt it tho.

A dealer told me the new tables will be electronic ones to be used for Sit 'n' Gos. The opening has been pushed back to April.

As for the 5-5 game: a regular told me it runs every weekend now. They opened the table for it sometime early friday afternoon while I was there.

Lady- Most likely Tammy or Carolynn

As for the electro tables, I wasn't at our monthly meeting but I will check in about this on Sunday when I work again. I am like 99.9% sure that this is not true, and if it is I am very upset. Update coming.

Is there any chance that there might be different games spread other than the NL games & 2/4 in the new room ?

It mostly goes on the weekends from Friday evening through Sunday.....

It grew out of a regular group of people who played 2/5 and would often try to get a 5/10 going.

Here is the deal:

- 5/5 blinds (of course)....
- White chips do not play...only on the table for the rake and bad beat jackpot drop and when people chop up a fiver for tips...
- Buy-in is $300-$1000 (this is the big difference: normal 2/5 buy in is $100-500. Anybody who has played 2/5 has sat there while someone sits down and buys in short for 100....and is all in by the flop....) by increasing the minimum it keeps these "hit and run" types off the table.
- Most people buy in for $500+, with about 75% buying in for the full $1,000.
- Preflop action can be family limp fest for $5, or an opening raise to about $25....A raise to $15 won't get it done if you are looking to drive A-rag and small connectors out of the hand...
- After table going for a couple of hours...usually around $10,000 - $15,000 in play depending on how many "big hands" and "feltings" there may have been.
- There is a core group of about 15 people who regularly play (not at the same time of course)...usually there are 5 "regulars" at the table.
- Even though many of the people know each other from playing in the game most weekends, there is not a lot of soft play...in fact the "regulars" will go after each other pretty hard, trapping, slow playing, etc....
- Lots of conversation....has somewhat of a "home game" feel...though new players often come in and do well and quickly get "in the swing of things".

If you feel comfortable with $1,000 on the table and pushing it into the middle when warranted, then this is a great game, and a lot of fun....

It seems to me like there are significantly more poker tables in AC then in Vegas. Am I wrong, and if not, anybody know why?
I think the Taj and the Borgata have larger poker rooms than most casinos in Vegas. Overall, I doubt they are more tables.

I called the Showboat poker room yesterday to ask about the new room, specifically if they'll spread some different limits, etc.
The guy I spoke to said they want some bigger limit games, either 5/10 or 6/12 (hopefully), and 10/20. They also want to spread Omaha, either 2/4 or 4/8 (hopefully).

I also asked about a mixed game, and he claims that they've had a HOSE game recently (4/8 for HE and Omaha, 5/10 for 7CS and stud HL). Anyway, he gave me the ol' poker room standby, "We'll spread anything if the players want it".

True, Taj & Borgata are bigger than every Vegas room, but overall there's way more poker tables in Vegas. Since 2004 or so, almost every casino in Vegas has a poker room.

Lest we forget that Harrahs made a big move to expand their room and the games stayed the same, only they spread more sit and go's now. I think the second nicest room in AC is Caesars and I have been there once.

There are preconceived notions about the rooms that makes the games good. Sure, it doesn't hurt to have a nice room, but if that were the qualifications for drawing players, then the Taj and Borgata would not be the only rooms with varieties of games

bottom line.....we will see

Wow, I didn't think anyone was even trying to spread HOSE in AC. I'll guess I'll have to pop into the Showboat this Saturday for the 1st time. If I strike out on HOSE am I left with the standard spread of 1/2 & 2/5 NL and 2/4 LHE? Does any 5/10 7 stud go?

beaudog...I lost track of this thread but just picked it back up.

Thanks for the terrific info. I will def. make it a point to head over to the boat on my next trip and check this out. Sounds like a really nice game.

From the way the floorperson explained it to me, that HOSE game sounded like a group of guys just showed up and they spread it for them. I'm sure if a list got started on a Saturday, it might draw some players.

The only 5/10 stud games left in AC are at Trop & Taj. I've seen it spread at Harrah's, but it's been a long time since I played there.

Is everything still running normally in the old room? I'm planning to be there tomorrow (Wednesday).
04-15-2008 , 02:08 PM
I think they are closed Wednesday and Thursday before the new opening Friday, at least that was the stated plan when I was up this weekend.
04-15-2008 , 02:51 PM
The room closed last night and opens up Friday morning.

on oct. 15, there will be a complete ban on smoking in atlantic city casinos, except in specially built enclosed smoking lounges. if a casino chooses not to build any of these lounges, then people will have to go outdoors.

I think the first post said something about "signifigant" tables. If you judge by the amount of money in play then it's might be AC. Las Vegas seems to have most of its table concentrated in small stakes games. Last time I was there I wandered through a bunch of small rooms (Strat, Trop, Fitzgeralds, Palace Station) that had one table of 1/2 going where the average stack was about 60$.

Anyone going down to Showboat today for the opening of the new room?

I'm heading out this afternoon. I'll post some observations about the new room tomorrow unless someone beats me to it.
