Hey Zima, they spread a half Omaha hi and half NLHE game, or is it just omaha?

Thanks 4 the info N advance. I'm hittin Tampa on the 11th of August, stayin till December, so I'm tryin 2 find out where the best games are. Whats the minimum buy in 4 the omaha game, and the half and half NLHE/Omaha hi? Half and half makes 4 a great game, but my BR is 2 short 2 play it, but I can take some pops in it. My brother, Dennis is a manager at the Tampa track.

Thanks, bro

Very true, except that any Seminole location is actually free to do with the JP$ as they please. So while a $2 JP drop sucks, at least you know 100% of it is being returned to the players.

Agreed. I used to be a $1/3 reg until life took a hold and rendered the 'roll BUSTO. Anyhoo, I got fed up Sunday with waiting on a $1/3 game and decided to hit the $1/2 game. The difference in play is astounding.

On Tuesday I was at a $1/3 game that was pretty good for a while but got worse when 3 donators busted. I transferred to a another $1/3 game where there were ZERO soft seats. I lost $50 or so, moved to a $1/2 game, and ABC'ed it up to a $300 profit.

I've learned my lesson. $1/2 is the game for me until I'm rolled for $2/5.

Seminole Hard Rock expansion boosts casino size

"Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Tampa likely may become one of the country's biggest casinos, tribal or not. "

Had one hell of a baptism to live poker at the Rock.

Showed up at 4, took me 10 minutes to find the poker room. When I got there, asked for the 1-2NL. Got a flat, dismissive 'Table 13,' from one of the hostesses. I then proceeded to stand there in the lobby, looking at all the tables, looking lost for a good 2 minutes until I asked one of the dealers walking around to orient me. When I went to get chips, was completely clueless as to what precisely to buy. After some strange looks in regards to some insecure mumbling I made, I got a rack of 1's and 2's.

You guys can probably see where this is going.

I dropped my first BI within 3 hours of being there. Got seated at a table full of regulars. Between my ridiculous looking stack next to reds, the frequent online-player-rookie mistakes I was making, and poor play due to vague intimidation, I might as well have had a sign saying 'live one' hanging around my neck.

Took an hour break, to go get an extra shirt from my truck (are they SERIOUS with the temperature in there?), reassessed my play, and signed back up again at another table. Nursed my second buyin for the better part of 6-7 hours at the next table. Not trying to be some big badass at the table, just trying to survive. Picked up pots here and there and coasted, playing TAG. Around 2 or so I was down to 15 (-185 for the night), after a good 3-4 hours of trash hands, got a sick run of cards. Doubled up, then tripled up, and then doubled up to about 240 off of a reg.

Sat in LP with QQ. Reg in EP and one other limped, I made it 8 to go, they both called. Flop came with a Qc8h3h. Reg makes a show of his raise, putting in 20. Other guy folded, I made it 40. He pushed, I called. He shows A9h. The dealer burned and turned the last two cards so quickly I wasn't mentally prepared - the river comes with a 3h. I was completely dejected and was in the process of mucking when a really nice guy next to me reminded me that the board had paired and asked if I'd made a boat. I flip my cards and the Reg is PISSED. I'm completely embarrassed as I scoop in one of the biggest pots I'd seen that night. Ended up breaking even by the end of the night when I left at 3.

Was an unbelievable ride. Glad I got it out of the way so I don't make all those rookie mistakes all over again. Going back tomorrow to make a weekend out of it.

When I left. ******ed move, but I was just intimidated to all hell by the place and didn't want to until I got a hostess alone. Naturally, I can deal with a mob of Iraqis and Afghan prisoners, but god forbid I look stupid in front of some people in a poker room.

Anyone have a list of what games/limits are being spread on a regular basis. I did a search, and can't find any info. More specifically, limit hold'em and stud.

Thanks

Joe

LOL about the temperature. You can always tell the tourists by the $60 Hard Rock sweatshirts from the gift shop they are wearing because the expect FL to be warm, and wear shorts and T shirts into our poker freezer.

If you had just asked the brush "where is that table" after she said Table 13, I'm sure she would have told you. They don't give directions automatically to every single player who comes in. That would take too long and be unnecessary for most.

As to the "nice guy" who asked you if you had a boat, he actually acted as a DB, seriously violating the OPTAH rule. If you had tabled your hand, and didn't see it, he's fine. But if you had not tabled your cards, then he's wrong and the other guy had every right to be pissed.

An important lesson to learn (which you got for free) is that you should make it a habit of tabling your hand at a showdown, especially an all in, whether you think you won or not. I've seen dozens of people either misread their hand or not realize what they had, and lost pots just because they think that 'real players' don't want to give the other guy any info. The cost of lost pots far outweighs any edge the info will give opponents. In fact, at these level games, I am sure that the info doesn't make any difference at all.

I'm sure she would, and I wasn't put off by it. I agree entirely, it's not her problem at all if I don't know where I am and don't bother to ask.

Good to know on the hand rule. And yeah, some of the nicer guys helped me out with all of the live game idiosyncrasies. I had told the guy in passing that it was my first time in a casino (it was obvious in any event, I had nothing to hide), so that's probably why he went out on a limb there for me. Had a talk with him afterwards and he gave me the same advice you did.

Just looking forward to not behaving like a total idiot this weekend.

Personally, I would've called a floorperson if the flop had a 3h AND the river was also a 3h!

Glad it didn't happen to you but I have a friend who plays pretty regularly who (this week) mucked a winner, not realizing she'd hit a 4 card flush with QQ v KK. Any time it goes to showdown, just table your cards face up. I'm not sure about you but if I lost a pot like that with the winning hand, it would haunt me for a long time, even if I made the money back.

I went there for my first live poker play last Sunday after a few years of online play. My experience was a lot like yours, except I was lucky enough not to lose my first BI and came out ahead $227 after 3 hours of play. I was lucky to be at a table with a couple of regs and more than my share of LAGs. Just like you, it was hard to orient myself at first. I went in expecting to be bored (as I had heard so many online players say about live play), but I wasn't the whole time, and the hours flew by.

I will say I was surprised by the level of play (I was at a 1/2 table), meaning I didn't think it would be so soft. Wondering if I just hit a lucky time. Sundays are my only day off, so I'm hoping to be able to make a regular day of it driving from Orlando.
