If that really is the total amount available, and they have to take a bad beat hit out of that 105k, I can see why the promos would be down this month.
When we were all bitching about the top 50 promo, one dealer said that one reason they did it was that it was a set amount of payout for the month, versus the variable amounts for the usual X$ for X hours promos, where they can't really know how many people will hit it. I'm not sure, but I think Derby once had a limit on total payout for their hours promo that month they had it, in the fine print somewhere. I guess when cash is tighter they can't have an open ended promo.
It was like 250kish (maybe 280?) when hit back in June or whenever. Then it got hit twice in one day in late July or early August. I was there that day but can't remember. First hit was around 160k. Second was 50k as it had just reset. It's that second one that really messed up their planning I think. BBJs should not be hit twice on a freaking Wednesday. They went 10 months without it hitting before the 250 to 280 hit.
Easy solution...segregate BBJ and other promo funds. I heard they're going to cut the amount that 1/2 and 2/4 limit games can make to like half the BBJ. I don't think thats going to be a popular decision and maybe just rumor but I play 2/5 so I'm fine with it.
Also I don't care about the BBJ much more concerned with terrible HH and hourly promos making the room a relative ghost town.
They need to stop with the drawings. Nobody wants them and it's just 30k removed from their promo fund. That can go a long way for hourly promos and HHs. And this months hourly promo is just beyond terrible. The guys who make the top 50 will be putting in like 150 hrs minimum. Last month 150 hrs would have gotten 800 bucks? Now it gets 1000? Assuming 150 is even enough which it may not be. And to get #1 you probably need like 300+ hours, which last month would have paid 1600+ and now pays 1 person 2k and the others 1k. So for numbers 2 to 10 they are almost certainly getting less than they would have last month.
There are better ways to limit the max dollars paid. Like no hourly promo at all and sick HH promos would be better. Or do the regular hourly but cap it at 2 or 3 cashes. Doesn't give an exact limit but they should have enough data to know about how much that would cost.
I was playing 2/5 last night and the room was pretty crowded but my table was pretty terrible. Bunch of nitregs. I've never won 5 bucks preflop so often. And I made 6 sets which is amazing but 5 of them my opponents just folded on the flop. And I was probably the LAGgiest player at the table. The other one I got stacked by a guy rivering a backdoor flush after the money went in on the turn. Oh well. Very few large pots besides that one. Only advantage was I could bluff a lot more than usual and 3 bet pretty light.
