Misspoke, actually. Didn't know they had "a" tournament with that type of buyin, on any schedule.

On a different subject, how has the 5/10 been at Palomar lately? I know it used to play big with a 'mandatory' straddle. From what I heard that was because several of the regulars wanted a 10/20 but could never get it started. Has it changed since the 10/20 became more regular? I'm trying to figure out what type of buy-in I would need to feel comfortable in the game.

mandatory straddle is very rare lately, it only happens if there's a perfect storm of egos and bankrolls. 10/20 will go as a seperate game but thats also a rare occasion.

a third of the regs play 500 deep, a third play 1200ish deep, and a third play 3k deep. so you could conceivably be comfy on any stacksize for the buyin, depending on your gamble threshold I guess. buyin range is 300 to 3k.

Will be in San Diego for a week or so end of the month...... Wondering if there is any regular PLO spread. Nothing crazy, just a 1/3 or 2/5 PLO game would be great.

Thanks!!!

I read the post about the new PLO/NLH mix at Oceans, but was wondering if there is any regularly running PLO game in San Diego. I will be in town for a week or so end of the month and would love to find a game!!!
thanks for any input!

I wouldn't really call Sycuan little. it's only smaller than Ocean's 11 inside the county and Pechanga just outside the county. since they remodeled last year, it has plenty of tables going on any day.

Viejas may be trying to get things going again but it's going to take a lot of effort to win back the players they upset. dealers have left to go elsewhere due to lack of shifts. on weekend days, they'd have one maybe two games going and it wasn't necessarily crowded at night either.

my ranking in order are:

Sycuan
Barona
Pechanga
Ocean's

i have never been to village club, lucky lady, or palomar club. Pala and Rincon are just too hard to get to without knowing for sure there will be games going on.

Personally, I just don't like Ocean's. not sure why. just the vibe i get. the staff is always nice and the food is fantastic and cheap. but parking sucks, especially if you get there later in the evening. I think part of my vibe is that when i go there it feels like I'm playing cards in an auditorium. it's just a big wide open space with high ceilings so there's no intimacy at all. I'm not saying I like a small cramped room but I don't have the same vibe at Pechanga which is also a large open space with high ceilings so there's juts something about Ocean's.

Having said that, plenty of games at a variety of different limits so there's always something going on for you.

mfpaul, you a reg @sycuan? I've probably played with you if your game is 1/2NL. Yeah, I guess "little" isn't really appropriate -- they have something like 20 tables in the room with several games of 1/2NL and 3/6FL on any given day. Good staff. LOL the way they are using an Excel spreadsheet as their brush software.

haven't played at all for about 3 months but I only played at Sycuan this year. we probably did play at one point or another then since I play 1/2.

i would check out the palomar. to me, i always thought it was a sexy little room right in the middle of everything and they have the best chips (as far as feel and handling) that i've ever played with. as far as the poker, i like the structure of their games. the buyin is usually up to 200bb's and they have levels for most bankrolls - 1/2, 2/5, 5/10.

Pala: nice little room
Sycuan: nice little room

Haven't played at the others: Barona, Palomar, Rincon, etc. My top choices are Pala and Sycuan right now for 1/2NL. There's a 3/6 half-kill Omaha8 game at Sycuan that's awesome. You'd be the only person at the table not on Social Security. Too bad there's no alcohol served in the room because that's a game you could play half-drunk.
Wow Viejas was my fav room. Played all of 2010 and they had good action. When did it die out?

Pala is a very nice room if you live nearby. Barona sucks and Sycuan is ok.

Been to all of them I live in South Bay, and almost exclusively play at the Village Club 50min-300 max 2/3 runs more or less 24/7. Played last Tuesday around 11pm, and they had three tables running with the first feeder playing 5 to 6 handed which was great. Even if commuting wasn't a problem I'd be playing here.

Used to play at Viejas once or twice a month, too. Their poker room used to be upstairs, seemed busy, then it got moved downstairs to a larger area, but they never seemed to get enough players down there to fill it up, and it was kind of drab. I stopped going there and am not sure where the poker room is at the moment, probably upstairs again? Maybe they remodeled?

I stopped going to Viejas in mid/late 2010 because I liked Pechanga's room better: less smoke, more games. Then Pechanga changed their low-limit formats and I'm not such a fan anymore. Sycuan/Pala are my top choices these days, mostly because they offer 1/2 instead of 1/3.

I loved it downstairs! Probably one of the biggest rooms and nice! unfortunately they moved it back upstairs late 2010 but it's still very spacious.

Don't get me wrong...I like Palomar....but "sexy" has never been a word that has come to mind when thinking of that place. It's a sketchy little hole in the wall poker room but I like it nonetheless.

Viejas is by far my favourite room in East S.D. now.

Yes, they moved it upstairs to a much nicer location next to the OTB. The action isn't bad as long as 1/2 NL or 3/6 L is your game. I've never been there when a 2/5 or 5/10 game was going.

I am primarily a tournament player, and Viejas blows away Sycuan and Barona as far as tournaments go. Barona cancelled all their night tournaments because the bad beat jackpot got over x$..lame..

someone help me out here, whats a reasonable time charge for 20/40 limit mix (including draw games)?

the local cardroom has a specific number time charge for the games and I'm curious what you guys think is a fair time charge per down (30 minutes) for varying limits, eg 10/20 15/30 20/40 30/60.

i'm wondering what the inflection point of fairness is for each limit, because otherwise it is kinda silly to play mix in a cardroom if you're getting raked too much. that said, i dunno whats fair.

heeeelp
