i believe they have 10/20 NL and 10/20 half and half a few times a week. between village and oceans there is consistent 10/20 action I am told.
Thanks for the reply. Any idea on the 8/16 LHE?

I don't recall ever seeing 8/16 LHE, but I've only been a few times. maybe I wasn't looking hard enough.

Hey, this might be a weird question, but my friend and I are looking for a place in San Diego to move in to by December. Our criteria are:

2br in the action downtown (girls, gym, bars)
Dog friendly (preferably park close by)
Month to month lease (might stay longer, but who knows)
Furnished
Decent Price

Best suggestions for areas to live? Craigslist? If anyone is bored and wants to suggest some places to check out, well, the first round of shots is on us for everyone in this thread

Grind Craigslist for sure. A friend of mine got a sweet 2b2b downtown for low to mid 2000s. It's a buyers market for renting, I guess that goes without saying.

----

I have taken SD for granted re: live pokers. Have played like 5 hours at Commerce and I dunno how people do it.

The action is in the beach areas not really downtown if I were you I would look in ocean beach or pb or maybe mission beach it's about the same price as down town ocean beach may even be slightly cheaper plus they have dog beach right there.

Ob would bey recommendation and even the homeless girls There are hot

I live in Mission Beach and it literally becomes PB. I really like my area b/c I can throw a rock at the ocean and the PB bars are an easy bike ride on the boardwalk. Downtown is cool tho too, but I lived in the desert for far to long and wanted to be really close to the beach. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions

Mission Beach is more of a college crowd with a few college-y bars, PB you get some more variety with the people and a lot more places to go. In the end they're kind of the same place, it takes like 15 minutes to bike from the southern tip of mission beach to the bars in PB.

I'd go with PB, but thats because I spend so much time in mission beach because its the defacto off campus option for kids at my school.

sidenote: girls at my school are incredibly attractive, so maybe MB would be a good choice afterall

Yo kutty you guys are mtt-ers or cash grinders?

And if you're under 25 both I suggest you do mission beach as well (not PB if you have a dog -- not enough green space.) If you're over 25 I suggest looking into 5th-6th ave near balboa park. Really close to downtown ($5 for a cab) and lots of space for your dog (and lots of hotties jogging around that you can talk to as well ).

I'm going to San Diego for a business trip in a few months. What's the best place to play 20-40 or 40-80 limit HE?

If you have the time and can't find any in San Diego, "The Bike" just a couple hours drive away(at the right time) is advertising on their wsopc schedule that they are spreading 40/80 limit. Saw this just after reading your post, figured it couldn't hurt.

Can anyone give me an idea of how Ocean's 11 game selection/availability compares w/ Commerce (for 20-40 & 40-80 LHE). After the business part of my trip I'm probably going to spend 3 days (Wed - Fri) playing poker. I've got two options:

1. I could drive up to Ocean's 11 and get a hotel near there and play at Ocean's 11. Any recommendations on a good place to say. I'm looking for something close and safe, doesn't need to be super nice.

2. I could drive up to Commerce and play there. I'd probably stay at the at the casino.

If the Ocean's 11 has 20-40 and 40-80 that run consistently, then I would probably prefer to play there, because my flight will be out of San Diego, so if I go upto commerce that would mean about 3-4 hours of extra driving for the whole trip.

Of course, if the games don't run regularly or they're significantly tougher at Ocean's 11, then I'd do the extra driving and play at Commerce.

Any thoughts on which is the better plan?

i don't play LHE, but as far as i know, the 40-80 at o11 only goes on fridays (?). i think the 20 goes daily. sometimes with 2 tables.

you could always try out o11 and if it doesn't fit your needs, then head up to commerce. it's only about 80 miles from o11 to commerce.

I'd rather choose now, because I either want to book a room at commerce or near ocean's 11, and I don't want to deal with having to change accomodations if I find that ocean's 11 is inadequate.

im pretty sure the only information you're looking for that isnt readily available via google would be how consistent the 20/40 runs at oceans, and for that I think your best bet is to just call them and ask their floor guy how often the game goes.

i'd help more if I could but I've never played Oceans, sry X_X

I don't really trust calling floor people. I find that they often exaggerate how often games run or what games are running just to get you come. I'll probably try that if I can't get any ocean's 11 LHE regs to chime in on how frequently 20-40 and 40-80 run and how the games compare to Commerce.

The last weekend I was there there was no 40 game on Saturday, just a 20 and an 8. I was there on Friday that same trip and every table was full. I was surprised to see the room less than half full on a Saturday after seeing all tables full with huge waiting lists on the day before.

Tues and Fri are the busiest days of the week at O11. There are at least three different games that run primarily on Fridays. Usually fris, every table in the place is in use.

My gut says that you won't get that kind of treatment as much in SoCal. There is a level of competition with LA & SD cardrooms that they wouldn't want to risk losing business in such a fashion. I could be wrong though

Just got a peek at Viejas' December poker schedule. They are keeping the Friday $65 Deepstack(10k chips, 30 min lvls) at 6:15pm for a little longer, I figured as much but this pleases me greatly to confirm.

Also a few new changes, the wednesday afternoon tourny is now a freezeout, and for cash games they are trying to get their $1/3 going, offering $20 to the first 9 players on Friday to start a 1/3 game before 4pm.

Slip out to O11 during the week if you can head north by 300. For that level you may have no table selection. If there are multiple table they will be must move. Go to commerce for the weekend. Haven't been yet but hear there is much more action.

If you want to slum the 8/16 at O11 is soft and fun for some diversion.

confirmed 8/16 at O11 is crazy soft. 20/40 is still soft but requires some reading skills and targeted LAGGRO.

There's a subforum with a San Diego thread. Haven't played them all, but here are my short descriptions:

Oceans Eleven: for degenerate poker addicts
Pechanga: $40 max 1/2NL. 'nuff said.
Viejas: heard it was dead, but they're trying to get things going again
Pala: nice little room
Sycuan: nice little room

Haven't played at the others: Barona, Palomar, Rincon, etc. My top choices are Pala and Sycuan right now for 1/2NL. There's a 3/6 half-kill Omaha8 game at Sycuan that's awesome. You'd be the only person at the table not on Social Security. Too bad there's no alcohol served in the room because that's a game you could play half-drunk.

Oceans is by far the best all around poker room in SD. Obv. Fri/sat are best.

Pechanga has been surprising me when I go in there, quite a bit going on.

Veijas just can't keep it together anymore.

Pala is pretty dead poker wise but they get a 2-5 going every once in a while

Luck Lady, bless their hearts, just don't have players anymore

Palomar is somehow booming, taking all Lady's business. Good place for NL although their 5-10 game is getting tougher and tougher.

Villiage club has quite a bit of business and typically runs an 8-16 O8 with an option to kill every hand. fun fun.
