It's $10ish on the gothels, and about $7 each way on the jersey turnpike, plus another couple bucks on the PA side. Plus gas, so good luck beating all that.

I think the staged rollout was part of the political dealing that went on to keep the current licensees and indian interests from pouring lobby money into a campaign against the amendment.
Thanks for the link.

Salamanca used to have 1/2 but it's super isolated, There is a college IIRC near it, and it used to be close to Cleveland and Erie, but these days I doubt it even still has it. Seneca Niagara on the states side has a few tables, but since they put poker on the Canadian side it's dead. There was a third up that way that had poker but that shut down a while ago. Now with Pittsburgh, Cleveland, And Erie all having rooms..

Turning Stone used to have pretty good action but those days are also over. It's also 45 minutes from Syracuse/Albany.

I'm sure slots/tables will pull a modest profit, ala mount airy, but poker action will be sparse if there is anything at all.

Do not let purples play in 2/5. To easy to hide a purple or even to not see 1 or 2 on a stack. Let's be real if someone is having a killer night and has 5000 in front of them that is 2 stacks of black plus however you want the other 1000. Regarding rebuys not that hard to keep 10 blacks in your pocket or heavens forbid miss a hand or 2. I just do not buy that people on a tilt leave because they have to wait for a chip runner or go to the cage.

Take the US-1 instead when driving in off peak hours.

They may not leave but they aren't involved in the next hand where they're probably raising light or never folding. Why break their rhythm of being in dust mode?

Re: Parx Casino (Bensalem, PA) -- FAQ updated 2013.03.18

Played here for the first time a couple weeks ago while in Reading on business. Started on Friday at noon, played until 10 p.m. Bought in for $1000, cashed for $1250. Down $700 at one point, up $1400 at one point. Had fun.

I did watch a guy sitting on about $2500 or so hand two full racks of red to a friend of his and the dealer said nothing. I spoke up of course and then dealer called floor. Guy left table before floor got there.

Albany is not a very hi or middle income area. A casino would be to the detriment of many people who couldn't afford to gamble. I would be interested to see where they build it.. just outside of Albany near the airport, or even Saratoga (I hope not, the track is enough), or maybe up in Lake George (also hope not).

never realized how much time is wasted by people breaking a $2 blue chip to give a $1 tip to the dealer.

Buy 20 white chips when you get your initial buy in.

That's the one thing I hate about parx. The blue chips are really annoying. I get that whites take up more rack space and would cause more frequent fills, but, it would still be very marginal compared to other casinos.

It's a small price to pay for the other positives of the room. The lack of a BBJ promotional dollar and the high amount of tables and larger player pool have won me over enough to add 10-15 minutes to my drive compared to other places.

Tip the dealer after he or she pitches cards for the next hand. Time is wasted when the transaction happens in between hands. And when u give them a blue chip say "one back" this way the dealer doesn't make extra movements.

What I like about this route is the flexible return. The transfer between trains is seamless and the only gap in service is between about 1 and 6am: http://www.septa.org/schedules/rail/pdf/tre.pdf
The only thing I'll add is Cornwells Heights in the middle of nowhere. Luckily someone else was calling a cab and I got the taxi number from him. On the way back I went to Croydon station instead. Better lit, two stops closer to Trenton, more populous and only $1 more than the cab ride to Cornwells Heights. ($12.90 vs $14.05).

question for the Parx regulars: in a 9-handed game at Parx, are the players supposed to be sitting in front of or between the cup-holders? I am regular at Borgata and heard something bizarre from the Parx dealer.

I've heard from a few dealers there that they're getting a BBJ in a month or two.

I usually see seats 1-2-3-7-8-9 sit in front of their cup holders. The 4-5-6 seats get a little wacky though since there's 4 cup holders for 3 seats. Usually depends on which side of the table has fatter players.

Anyone there last week (two weeks ago?) when the guy (non-reg) ran $300 up to $12,000 on a 1/2? I heard there were 2/5 players waiting to take a seat at the table. Think he dropped about $3k before leaving with $9,000.

The official rule is (or at least was, the last time I asked seriously) everyone centered on their cup holders except the 5 seat, who sits in between the middle 2 cupholders, directly across from the dealer.

This is obviously dumb, since it gives the 5 seat twice as much room as every other seat (except maybe the 1 and 9), but it does allow the 5 seat to use one cupholder for drinks and still be able to play off center with his arms and chips, which wouldn't be possible if players were evenly distributed.

In practice, most tables tend to spread themselves out a little more uniformly, and/or give a little extra room to the bigger players.

Thanks... That's what a dealer told me as well, which seems dumb. At Borgata it's 'between the cups' which makes a lot more sense and everyone has more room... after all, it's 9-handed! what's the sense of a 9-handed game if 8 of the 9 players are sitting the exact same way as in a 10-handed game? extremely dumb rule...

I hate to disagree, but "everyone in between the cupholders" gives every player the exact same amount of room as "everyone centered on their cupholder" (which is to say, exactly one 10-seat width spacing), except that the former gives the 1 and 9 seats 1.5x the room, as opposed to giving the 5 seat 2x the room.

Moreover, the Borgata way has the cupholders where your arms would naturally go when resting, which I would find 100 times more annoying if I were trying to use it to actually hold a drink. And which cupholder is yours, the one on the left or the one on the right?

Must've happened again? Can't remember the dealers name (nice guy with the thick black-rimmed glasses) was saying it just happened recently and pointed to the table it happened on.

Parx runs the same daily tournaments every week/month. If the Big Stax isn't running don't expect any changes.
