You're right, what ever takes less money of the table overall, is what's best for the player and the game. All those days you win 1 pot and hour are mitigated by the ones you win 2-4 pots an hour.
A better example is when the game is short. You pay $6/hour vs $2/3 bucks a hand. Say the game is 4 handed. You win an average of 6 hands an hour(which might be low in a 4 handed game to be honest). How's rake look now?
Factoring in what the Bellagio does isn't relevant, they are 2500 miles apart. Bell takes rakes 10/20 and does $10/hour at 20/40. If they raked the 15 that would be worse for any player.
Unless the game is going REALLY REALLY slow constantly(which is a dealer issue not a rake issue) or it's draw games on a full table, time is the way to go.
ps - unless you're SUPER SUPER nitty, time pots even out in the long term. Even with the good players avoiding them.
