Where is this book of which he speaks?

I understand you are just repeating what he said, but if I'd have been there, the next words out of my mouth would have been "I'll give you $1,000 if you can produce that book in the next 5 minutes."

[Note: I may have replaced "$1,000" with "$7.50" but you get the idea...]

But I mentioned the fact that I thought players should have that option to a dealer yesterday and was told that the rule is already in the book, although no one knows about it or uses it.
Why should that be an option? Not trying to derail, but there is no reason to ever call the clock in a cash game.

I do need to come check out all the new improvements now that season is starting.

Sure there is. Remember, this is Sarasota. They have to get home before Golden Girls comes on.

Didn't mom tell you never use an absolute? Ever??

Two quick points. Some games charge time (I know not Sarasota, but 5/10 @ Foxwoods does). Second point, I give people a huge amount of time to decide in a cash game because there's no "clock" per say. But there is. It's called my time. And my time is worth A LOT. If you can't decide after 5 minutes what you're going to do, the next 5 minutes aren't going to change that. Time needs to be called.

Maybe it's just me, I don't really play 1/2 or anything that low, so I could see the argument. That being said, if you called the clock on me in a cash game I would laugh at you and so would the supervisor called to the table.

Sorry big blinds, but clock has to be called on some individuals in 1-2 who believe they are at the final table of a WPT event. If your any good at poker it should NEVER take more than 30 seconds to make a decision.

Played the $5K guarantee ($130) there yesterday. Didn't know that it was a re-buy for the first 2 hours. What a joke of a tournament early on. 400 BB to start with the add on. Between that and it being a rebuy, no-one is folding. Saw one guy make it 1,100 preflop first to act, and he got called. By 3-3.

Next time I'm going to show up 1:45 in. Apparently you get a full stack no matter when you buy in.

This is all pretty standard in Florida. Your call if you want to lose two hours of your tourney.

Yeah, I haven't played a tournament there in probably 2 years, or anywhere in probably 6 months. But I get why some like this sort of structure, and to each his own I guess. Just too painful for me.

How is this room looking the last couple weeks, this time of year during the holidays? Snow birds and tourists or same regs trading blinds?

Are they no longer posting tournament results on the website? Or was it moved somewhere else on the website that I just haven't seen. It used to be you could see results for every tourney, which was good for seeing how many players were showing up. I was just looking to see how big the Monday turnouts have been since may make it to the 1:00 tomorrow.

Looks like they totally re-did the website wrt tournament results.

Bump.

Looking to jump back in.

Any comments on the room lately?

I played the Monday tournament there last week (MLK day) then cash afterward. Pretty decent turnout for tournament. 2/5 cash was same normal cast of characters who looked pissed off they hadn't died in their sleep the night before.

They were doing some sort of splash the pot promotion that the mouth breathers seemed to be enjoying. Chairs still horrendous.

Overall, unfortunately, still not a room I play in unless it's a spur of the moment thing and I'm too lazy to drive north.

any plo?
One-Eyed Jacks @ Sarasota Kennel Club (Sarasota, FL) Quote

Yes. I've never played it because all that was running any time I've been there has been 1/2 and I'd rather gouge my toenails out with a rusty screwdriver than play 1/2 plo. (Just sayin'...)

They have a current tables list on their website. skcpoker.com. Seems to be updated fairly regularly with what's running.

what are the best days of the week for plo? i'm going to be in town in a few weeks, are there other poker rooms within reasonable distance from the Sarasota airport?

bonita springs poker room has plo every day, one game is public 2/5/10, one game is private 5/10/20. If you are under 40 you probably won't be let into the private game.

A few things...

I played there Thursday nite and the 2/5 was incredible. Possibly the easiest game ive sat in in years. I was there visiting and cant wait to go back.

As far as clock goes. U can call clock in a cash game everywhere ive played. Not sure what u guys r talking about...

When all in u MUST open ur hand before any remaining streets are dealt. Weird. Stupid. Bad for the game.

And no black chips in play? Again, weird and stupid.

But... This room is phenominal over all. See u guys soon i hope.

Woz, glad you liked your stay, here are some updates to the room. I must be one of the only regs who post on 2p2 at SKC.

New chairs! But they are wide and have a backing that too far back. Still, better than auditorium chairs with cushions that have been sharted on 20 times.

The Friday day tournament is a $230, no guarantee, but still pretty good. Sunday is a $3K guarantee, it was a $5K. Yesterday the $230 chopped 7 ways out of the money.

Friday is $599/$299 high hand day (Don't know if its an April thing or summer thing). Quad deuces or better gets you $599 if it hasn't been hit, and $299 if it has already been hit that day. This makes Friday a gold mine. People are checking down sets to hit quads, and many will limp in with all pairs, including big ones.

They are doing splash the pot tomorrow, I think its the last one. If a 1/2 table is called, its usually a shovefest, at 2/5, its a little more sane.

1/2/5 PLO hasn't been running as much, more people are playing 5/5/10 PLO or PLO8. The PLO hi only is usually played with a rock so its plays bigger.

Chinese and SNGs have died out, rake on tournies still is high but structures and chips are better than other places. The 130 on Sunday is kinda donky, but where else do you get 20K in chips with 30 min blinds for $130? Even the $55 Friday night tournament gets 17K in chips with 15/20 min blinds.

Since we haven't had a report in a while...

Went up Saturday because didn't feel like driving north. $599/$299 is still running, which is great. (Nothing like people letting you get your flush cheaply because they are looking for that 4th deuce...). 2/5 is apparently a must move, which I'm not a fan of, but oh well. First table was mostly tighter, main game was a madhouse. Raises to 30 were standard, 45 once a few times. 3 decent players at each table, 3 mouthbreathers going broke $15 at a time, a couple of middling players.

Chairs are really nice, as is playing 9 handed. Dealers 80% good, 20% bad. Saw some basic mistakes made, but overall not too bad.

The worst thing about it is that there is just not large-enough a pool of players. We played 5 handed at the secondary table for a while, and then I got moved to the main so they were 4 handed. Plus, the same 4 faces were at the main game and (perhaps not surprisingly) they are better than average. All in all, the game is still beatable (although with some hefty swings being likely, given the PFR sizing and so the bloated pots as a result) but I'd still rather drive the extra 20 minutes for me to go to HR, just because the decent player to moron ration is materially lower.

Thanks for the update. IMHO, the pool of players is too small to make this place worth the effort. Not to mention you get the same faces (as you say). HR, more action, more games, and better player pool.

This room will never die, there's too much degenerate old money in the area. I stopped in when I was back in town in April, and it is still the same faces, minus a few. New chairs suck. How in the hell am I supposed to play poker in a 45* angled chair? I did like the $1k BI on the 2/5 game though.

I'm hoping to start making my way out to get my feet wet.

I think I'll be heading to Tampa for a friends birthday next week for my first cash game, but am looking forward to coming to the SKC soon.
