i think this is part of it but certainly not all. a lot of the players in underground games live very close by and work day jobs, they play these games weeknights because they are close to home and they can go to work the next day, then they do their big gambling at casinos over the weekend. most of them know each other and there's a social element for them too. i've never had a problem cashing out of any of my games due to credit issued to other players. for me, unless i drive all the way to parx i'm not getting a regular PLO game as big as i want to play and the players in the underground games are frequently much worse.

Ya I agree there’s definitely a convenience element as well. I should have included that.

I have been to a ton of these games, and the majority of people are paying cash or sending electronic payments in exchange for cash. At least in the 1/2, 1/3 and 2/5 streets

In theory if you’re a regular at a casino there’s probably people who would let you send an electronic payment to them in exchange for chips.

unless you are from Long Island or a rich Manhattanite who goes out there on weekends, which isn't a terrible demographic to target for a casino. lots of NYPD banking OT who would love to stop by on their way back to levittown. vice squad can use it to launder their take after a big bust, lol

i'm none of those things, so i wouldn't like it. but it will probably face a lot less community opposition, can also draw some brooklyn / SI / queens traffic away from the presumed RW site, and can integrate some of the existing sports / concert business.

Yea it would be cool for those people. I was speaking from someone from the city’s most likely point of view

I Live in Queens, Nassau Collesium site would be amazing. Brand new world class facility instead of a bit dumpy Resorts World or yonkers, plus the democraphics having more income is better for the games IME having played at Mohegan Sun and Parx.

February 3 is the first deadline for bidders to ask questions. The answers set off the next 30 days.

Do we expect to get any insight into the questions that the applicants asked if the answers given? Wondering when we might get some kind of meaningful news next

I ain’t wanna be the guy to ask since apparently I been asking too many questions lol. I’m guessing it’s private or not newsworthy yet cuz I haven’t heard anything.

I would think we'll hear when the answers go out, since that sets off the next 30 days. They'd have to be at least that open about the timing of next stages for the benefit of possible bidders who are just now thinking "Hey, I think I'd like to build a casino."

I wouldn't be surprised if we don't get to know the questions or the answers until the end. I guess it depends on how specific they are, whether they could be seen as giving private info to competitors.

The questionaire don’t really matter imo, I’d rather just wait and see who they grant the licenses to and then take it from there

No, of course it doesn't really matter, I'm just starved for updates. We're not gonna know who gets the licenses for months. Hopefully there's a lot of news between now and that point.

Over these shitty home games and I have a 16 month old, so travelling to AC or Parx is hard to pull off.

Yea, going to ac or parx from nyc takes up a lot of time. Hopefully we’re less than a year away from poker inthe tristate area. Maybe by summer we know who gets the licenses?

Fingers crossed. I'd have to think news about RW and EC will probably be the first to drop, whenever that is

Way overly hopeful, I think. By summer we'll know who's submitted proposals.

The current set of answers sets off another 30 days until the next potential set of questions. Those answers set off the last 30 days, at the end of which applications are due. So if, for example, the commission took two weeks to answer the first set of questions, second questions would be due March 17. If they take two weeks to answer those, the application deadline is about April 30. (Totally pulling out of a hat for illustration purposes here...I have no info about what the actual timeline will end up being.)

Then, before they can even consider any applications, the community committee has to be named, then meet and vote 2/3 in favor. And any zoning issues have to be cleared. Once they know which proposals are actually possible, *then* they can evaluate them and choose who gets the licenses. (Although I'm not sure if they have to wait for all applications to be cleared proceed...existing properties EC & RW will surely breeze through that stage, so do their applications just sit until everybody who wants to build something from scratch gets their stuff in order?)

Yea entirely possible, and no clue if they gonna make RW and yonkers wait while they sort through the other places
