I heard on radio yesterday that Mass Gaming Commission had rec'd so many calls about poker not returning to Mass casinos that they're scheduling a hearing for next week. Questions are Why hasn't poker been reinstated by casinos ? What is their plan ?

I for one would like to hear from casino mgmt on this.

Do they really need to attempt to save face here? I just assume they'll either say "we're carefully re-evaluating the situation due to COVID", or "it's a loss-leader and not profitable for our casinos, sorry"

Good on the MGC for listening and turning the screws on them a little. I don’t think they have the authority to allow poker rooms (separate from casinos), and though I think they have the authority to suspend or pull a license obviously that is not realistic. I think this is about all they can reasonably do.

The best leverage will come on the local level. MGM is well below its expected employee count (as is Encore I presume), reviving poker will bring back some jobs to close the gap a bit.

The answer to me seems simple in that they are waiting for certainty in regards to sports betting being finalized to incorporate them together.

No matter how many times I hear/read this, I don't believe it.

The Commerce Casino in CA doesn't have 200 poker tables cause they are 'loss leaders'.

Chasers in Salem NH owners cleared $3 million profit last year, a down year.

Think about that, a **** hole Casino in the basement of a Chinese restaurant in bum **** Salem NH.

Foxwoods has made plenty of money from Poker over the years, don't kid yourself into thinking otherwise.

It is likely true that poker is less profitable per square foot than other gambling, and floor space is limited.

However, it cannot be true that exclusive table gaming licenses were awarded by the state for the sole purpose of awarding monopoly power to 2 multibillion-dollar corporations to maximizing the revenue per square foot, and everything else is out of their hands.

The point of legalizing casino gambling was to give Mass residents reasonable access to games they want to play, and the state gets a cut.

Lots of people want to play poker, and places can clearly make money on it, but we are still being denied the chance to do this.

Why can't their be stand alone poker rooms/private clubs? Who made it , not possible for other options, terrible decision in my opinion.

I agree shouldn't be a monopoly on it.

We want to wait for sports betting , its just more BS by them to stall and delay tactic. Put them to the fire or allow alternate poker places to be created.

FYP. The state cut is the motivation and the state and casinos are aligned in their incentive to maximize profit per sq. foot.

Can't the state still get a cut and offer stand alone poker rooms?

The gaming commission can't do it on its own under current law, so the state legislature would have to pass legislation to allow it. Most likely, they would have to compensate the two casinos for the increased competition (even if they're not offering poker) making the potential revenue gains less relevant.

Don't forget they don't own the building or the food & beverage either.

Wynn blows. Let's hope they sell out to someone who understands the market they're in.

Probably the uncertainty. They dont know exactly when they can reopen and it is usually better to stay quiet than announce a timeline o my to retract it.

I’ll be in southern nh this Tuesday. Looking to play plo so it looks like either chasers or Boston billiards. If anyone wants to get a higher stakes game together, feel free to pm. Plo dinosaurs like me are free money.

No comps they pay for. All those food vouchers and cash chip offers are paid for from the promo fund which is supplied by the $2 promo rake.

Traveling to ME for a wedding this weekend, anything open past 11 PM or is that a charity game thing and standard for all card rooms in the area?

Was looking at the brook but looks like it closes early. Trying to find a way to play until 2 or 3 AM tonight.

By law all the NH rooms have to conclude their gaming by 1am, some choose to close earlier.
