Is the proposed plans for a Taunton Casino DOA?

I will be stuck in CT for work over superbowl weekend. Can any regulars weigh in on which is the better place for LLSNL for the weekend? Better food? Better rake? Either offer a poker rate for the hotel? Thanks in advance.

Last I heard:

--Wampanoags reach agreement with Governor;
--Feds refuse to sign off, saying state is taking too much wampum;
--Wampanoags and Gov are back to the drawing board;
--Nobody knows if Feds will sign off regardless, since Wampanoags don't have any "Indian land" to put their casino on, and nobody knows how Washington will respond to the "but we bought some land near the exit ramp" proposal.

I think Mohegan has a poker rate during the week (if there's vacancy). Neither place has it over the weekend.

My humor skills are clearly waning.

My OP was more a jab at Everett(the toxic dump). I live close by, trust me, you don't want to go there.

You might want to read the Foxwoods and Mohegan threads in Poker Venues. The Foxwoods thread has a FAQ in the 1st post that could probably answer a lot of your questions.

played 4/4 LHE at Rockingham Park a couple of times. rake was absurd ($7/hand + $1 BBJ) which probably means the game isn't beatable. having said that, the play was about as soft as possible. i am up 100 BB in about 12 hours of play, and i didn't run particularly well.

lot of regs obviously know each other, and their soft play (oh its you, let's check it down) against each other is annoying, but not worth saying anything about. (this has been discussed b4, but its an undeniable form of unintentional collusion)

it was fun, i made money off of the extremely bad players. but the negatives (double the rake of any reputable casino, and the collusion) make the game not beatable and ultimately not worth playing at.

unfortunately, ALL (every single one) of the small NH cardrooms suffer the same fate. worth the extra hour's drive to play at Foxwoods, imo!

Quoted for truth. I live within a half hour of two or three of them but due to the high rake it's not even worth going.

Heh, "the high rake" doesn't even crack the top five reasons why it's not worth going...

I've had some friends who have made out all right with the tournaments there, I'm just not a tourney guy.

I know that location, that would be a better location than suffolk downs as far as I'm concerned

I can't believe Wynn is serious about an Everett casino. That said, I have to think that either Suffolk Downs, in East Boston, or the old Monsanto Chemical site, in Everett, are equally unappealing. The Everett property with its proximity to a 1600 MW electric generating plant, an asphalt plant and a Liquified Natural Gas facility, probably just squeaks by East Boston, with its gasoline and heating oil storage tanks, as a more noxious place. Both have traffic problems, Route 1A in East Boston is a major commuter road as is Route 16 in Everett, both roads are undersized for their purpose.

Despite the drawbacks I'm looking forward to playing poker close to home. The games, for a while at least, will be fantastic.

True, but most people don't go to casinos to enjoy the outside scenery (and most casinos don't have windows....).

will they offer anything higher than 4/4 if this passes? and will the rake be $7/hand or will it be a more reasonable, but still unbeatable $4 or $5 per hand??

Well- lets hope so. All "they" need to do is look to other states to see exactly what works, and what doesn't. A $5.00 bet limit in Florida did not work- they tried it, as well as a Max $100.00 buy-in. Didn't work. Colorado tried a $5.00 bet limit- didn't work, at least they now have $100.00 SPREAD limit.
Now, of course you can walk up to a pari-mutuel window and bet 2000.00 on a horse or dog in those states, all perfectly legal. So, all our voices, and that of the industry, will need to be heard in case they over-regulate poker rooms.
That is, of course, if there are poker rooms to regulate. And the more there are, the better they are run, and the better it is for the paying customer. You want lower rake?...then you want more poker rooms. Rooms that are trying to make a pile of money, not some scammy charity excuse that states and locals "allow" to exist because its good for the community. right.
That charity poker excuse of a room in Rockingham hasn't seen a mop to its floor in years. How about the mens room- looks like a set from "The Sting". Great food- day old chicken tenders, anyone? goodluck fellas..I feel your pain.

If they built a casino at Rockingham Park I'd expect a standard poker room setup like any other casino. This is all several years down the road with several more hurdles to jump through, mind you.

Whatever is going on in PA will most likely be how things operate in NH since that is where all of their advice has been coming from. What are the poker rakes like in PA?
