I was there at about 8:00 pm (didn't play, though) and there was only a wait list of 13 people for 1-2 NL, and fewer for the other games (plus, there was an empty table). Is this typical? The Sands seems to have much longer waits.

The actual casino itself was totally packed. While I'd probably play in the room, its small size and proximity to smoking is a major negative. The casino and hotel are very nice, though.

People are just starting to choose which one they like better and sticking with it.

What PhazeOne said plus the fact that they still haven't gotten the comp system working in the poker room is pissing a lot of players off. Hopefully when they expand things will run better.

Not sure if there is any rhyme or reason to the wait lists now. I got there about 12:15AM Fri night and there was 37 on the wait list for 1-2. That said, I was on a table by 1:30AM. I also don't think that the comp problems are keeping any players away.

Has anyone been there in the morning/afternoon hours? is there usually a wait then? Also are sit and gos available yet?

Numbers are wayyy down Drew. Midweek there are far fewer games running, 37 for 1/2 at 12am is low used to be 70+ same goes for Saturday. The wait lists aren't starting until much later on the weekends. Sands is still absolutely booming with wait lists starting every weekday by 11am with all 12 tables filled. Many players are definitely shifting there. Comps may not be the only reason but it definitely has a lot of players pissed off.

Yes but I think Mount Airy and Sands are competing from a totally different demographic than Pocono Downs and Sands is winning.

Great News for Mount Airy. George Toth gone, real manager with some real casino experience taking over!

Hopefully Mt. Airy will do better. I like the place and never understood why they had the lowest gross slot revenue in PA.

They are the most rural / farthest from a population center. Add to that the 2 main draws, Scranton/Wilkes-barre and the Lehigh Valley that both have casinos of their own.

It's a pretty limited crowd to locals and tourists that come to the Poconos, for all of those folks it is a minimum 30 minute drive to get there.

Yeah I will be checking out Mt Airy on Monday Aug 16th......I am sure to be the only one in the poker room on a Monday night...

I am in NYC and have the week off and just want to avoid any and all NJ traffic so I chose Monday!

Hope I can at least get 1 full table going at some point.

I played yesterday Sunday August 8 and the wait for 1/2nl was only 30 minutes they texted me on my cell when the table was ready. Dealers to me seemed like Ac dealers, none of them were slow and kept the game going quickly. They were letting players rebuy and alowing straddles. Pretty good table 2 donks and one guy who wouldnt shut up about every hand, so annoying! Other players knew what they were doing but they would get married to top pair which for me was great, bought in for a 100 and cashed out for 545. Cant complain.

Apparently the state does not allow it.

Is there anywhere we can view the "state" laws of poker these casinos are following/not following?

I just played there last night, game was pretty soft, lots of people limping and calling raises with stuff like Q5o, about 85% of the hands at least 4 people saw a flop.
I think I went through 5 different dealers at the table and every one of them made some kind of mistake, typically declaring the action was on the wrong person or making the wrong change. One dealer grabbed and almost mucked someone's hand preflop when that player had made no sign they were folding.
Also, the drinks are 95% ice cubes. I'm glad I came up here with the intention of doing a bunch of other stuff and just having the casino as entertainment in the evening, but if I wanted to make a weekend trip just to play cards I don't think I'd come back.
Who knows, maybe the next few days will change my mind.

There is a lot to look through to find it, but it should be under regulations.

I spent a few hours there the other night from about 2-7pm. Overall I was pleased.maybe because I walked away ahead.. The down sides were room size, slow beverage service, I was told I could not eat in the poker room, I assume that was due to size of the room. the dealers seemed to switch in and out constantly. Had about 12 different dealers and only three stuck out as knowing what they were doing an asian guy with a giant gold ring on his finger, danielle, and rodger, the others were just mediocre, one dealer was clueless when a new player just arrived and was seated in the small blind. No high hand bonuses but a bad beat that starts with Aces full of Kings. The floor people were nice and friendly and the players in general were not of the best quality so it seemed for me to be easy pickings. If a few changes were made it would be a great room..I wish them luck.

hey guys, i read a few posts that mention the comp system for poker is broken. what exactly does that mean?

Also, is there a list of the different rake structures the different PA casinos are using? do they all charge 10% up to $5 (+ $1 BBJ) for 1/2 NL?

Thanks!

Not sure about a list but Mohegan Sun @ Pocono Downs is 10%-$4 max and there is no BBJ.
