$100+ - 15,000 chips/20 minute levels
$300+ - 30,000 chips/20 minute levels

As I've said, I think the Harrahs Mega Stacks need to offer more chips as the number of additional chips is too low in comparison to the extra cost. In the Super Stack, each chip costs .0075. In the Mega Stack, each additional chip costs .04.

I based these on current Harrahs tournaments as those are the ones I am most familiar with and tried to think of ways to differentiate between the different buy-ins. The current costs of the two lower buy-ins are $50 and $65, but I don't think the difference in time is enough of a difference so I thought increasing the cost of the $65 to $75 would allow for an increase in chips.

I did forget about the bounty tournament, but it would be a $100 buy-in, use the same structure as the $75 buy-in, and have $25 bounties.

I also think the early bird chips need to be increased. If the purpose is to encourage people to sign up early, I don't think it is doing the job as it is not enough of a reward. In the tournies where you can get EBC, it only increases the starting stack by 10bb.

In addition to the Mega Stack, Harrahs is having a $50 buy-in ladies tournament on the 20th and a $75 buy-in tournament at 11am and 7pm on the 22nd. With the $75 buy-in tournament, you start with 12k in chips.

Harrahs has been getting new carpet and now it is the poker room's turn. The room is closed, but is supposed to reopen at 6pm tonight.

I ended up playing Ameristar last night and given the turnout, decided to play there tonight. Tournament did not run due to lack of players so I hightailed it over to Harrahs.

The new carpet in the poker room is the same as the rest of the casino and it is UGLY!

I noticed on the Bravo that there was a 5/10 NL game going on at Hollywood last night... I haven't seen 5/10 NLHE in KC for quite awhile, especially on a Thursday, so I was just wondering if anyone knew how that came about. I wish I could've played but I am out of town. May play tonight if it pops up.

Ameristar on Saturday may be a regular thing. Over sixty entries and both the wife and I reached the final table. After we were seated, someone suggested giving tenth through seventh the buy-in back and we all agreed. I went out ninth, but the wife was still in.

At break time and four people left with one of them being the wife, the top three stacks talked about a chop as fourth in chips was out of the room but second in chips didn't want to do an equal chop because fourth in chips was so short. A new idea was broached, but the short stack declined when she came back. The person who didn't want to do an equal chop ended up going out in fourth.

The short stack at four players came back to become chip leader with three players remaing and a chop was agreed with the chip leader taking a larger share and the other two players, one of which was my wife, split the remaining money equally.

During break, I was talking about the differences between Harrahs and Ameristar to someone who has played a lot of tournaments and he agreed that Ameristar has softer fields. At Harrahs there is a lot of preflop raises and reraises while there is a lot of limping and you can see more flops.

I'd like to hear about that one too if somebody had any information.

Well, that didn't make a lot of sense due to the missing words. The last sentence should have ended with at Ameristar.

Honestly, I don't remember, but $300 goes to the prize pool so if there are eighty entries and first gets twenty-five percent, that would be six-thousand dollars. I'm thinking first in that size field gets about that percentange.

But I am sure if you play and take first, it will be more than you paid in.

As I was requested to do, here is how I ended up.

I made the final table and when we got to five we chopped equally.

Now I am back to having bragging rights on my wife as my single tournament score is larger than hers from last Saturday.

It was nice meeting you, but you didn't tell me your 2plus2 name.

Two changes that Harrahs made were levels were 30 minutes and surrenders were available.

Sorry, but I don't think Darren looks anything like my picture.

Regarding chopping, I have been involved quite a bit, but don't know that it is standard. I did just get back from Harrahs Monday night bounty tourney and we did a three way equal chop though. I also picked up two bounties and got to keep mine.

Regarding the hit I dealt your stack, I can be pretty sneaky at times and play some semi-crazy ****.

Nice meeting you, too. I will probably be playing tomorrow at Harrahs, Wednesday at Ameristar, and Saturday at Harrahs.

Good evening,

I am considering a move to the KC area in the spring and was wondering if anyone could give a short "State of the Poker" post on how things currently are in KC.

From reading the forum, it appears that Hollywood is the current star for cash games and some tourneys, with Ameristar and Harrah's being 2nd and 3rd place respectively, except for special tournament times during the year. Does Harrah's get a WSOP circuit event?

Also, in general, how's the cash game playing? I play poker for recreation, not to pay the rent, and I prefer to play in a friendly, well-run room (which are few and far between here in SoCal). Any opinions on the rooms, Hollywood in particular?

Thanks for your time.

Why are you thinking about moving here?

No WSOPc, but we have had the HPT twice this year at Ameristar.

I refuse to play at Hollywood and feel Harrahs' dealers are a little friendlier to new players compared to Ameristar, but the floor personnel are about equal.

As I have only been back to live, casino poker since the first part of last month I consider myself a new player.

I'm looking for a change of pace in my life and KC is one of the places I'm vetting. It's actually the current leader of the pack.

Why do you refuse to play at Hollywood? I've heard a lot of decent things about the room, both in this thread and others.

Do any of the rooms offer comps of any kind? I don't grind for comps, but a free meal is nice once in a while, or a tourney entry.

Were you a online player until recently?

Thanks for the time,
PtP

Let me just say that I have a disagreement with positions taken by certain people in Kansas government so I just don't give them my poker or slot business. At the request of my wife, I do go to Hollywood to eat sometimes. My not playing has nothing to do with the room or the personnel.

I know that Ameristar cash game players earn $1, but I don't know what Harrahs' amount is although I know players do earn comps as I have seen players redeem them for food.

I got started playing bar poker and then played that plus online and sometimes at the casino. For a variety of reasons, I wasn't playing anywhere that much for a long time after the government crackdown until recently. Now my main focus is on casino tournaments but I also play freerolls online through a site run by a bar poker league and I play bar poker with another league.

If people haven't warned you about Missouri weather, let me be the first. It is very variable.

Can't edit it now, but want to clarify that it should be $1 an hour that Ameristar cash poker players earn in comps.
