How about pass/don't pass in craps?
The point is that they don't want players grinding their promo chips out to collect the cash EV of them, they want players to "gamble" with them. So they prohibit using them on 1 side of all "cancellation" bets - pass/don't, red/black, player/banker.

Just don't play at the room

Go to MDlive or another casino.

I like horseshoe but I won't play there till they lower the rake or give a good promo. It's pointless when MDlive is right there

You can just go play at live if you feel so strongly about the bbj funds

I played at Horseshoe a little bit yesterday. It was listed at only 37k. Very surprised by this since there's been essentially no promos in 2016 so far. Something seems off. The room still gets a lot of traffic on weekends, so money should be coming in and redistributed somewhere. Must all be going to tournaments?

As I've mentioned before, at least the "casino" is offering 4x comps and a bunch of promo chips each month, so there's still some reason to walk in the door, but they don't do a good job of advertising that aspect. Many casual players are likely to play down the road at Live, making the games worse here, especially during the week.

Competition exposes mismanagement. Looking forward to MGM opening soon, bringing more options for players to vote with their feet.

Does anyone know if you can double down or split with promo chips when you use them at blackjack, or if you have to use real money to double down/split?

As for the BBJ fund, I think the issue is that while the BBJ fund is publicly posted, the promo fund is not, and I think the ratio that goes into those is up to them. So if they wanted to put 100% of the new money coming in into the promo fund, they theoretically could (which would probably be wise as long as the BBJ stays >20K). I'm not 100% sure on that, but that's my understanding. That said, I've also heard they wanted to run promos in February, but didn't get approval yet, which may come down to their bosses not understanding that players are funding promos and operating promos at a "loss" means the promo fund is diminishing for a month, not that the room is losing money.

That said, we may all be underestimating the amount of money the BBJ takes in vs. what it pays out each month. By my math, if everyone at every table went to the river on every hand, the BBJ fund would essentially break even. So it's probably realistic to estimate that around 50-70% of the BBJ/promo drop gets paid out each month in bad beats. Thus they may only be accumulating ~50K a month into the promo fund, and the months they're running promos they're basically giving away what they accumulated the prior month.

If I were Anthony, I'd change the BBJ to Aces full, which would free up ~50-80K/mo, cut my promos by maybe 20% and run them every month 3-4 days a week. Don't run them during big tournaments when the room is packed anyway. Something along those lines should enable promos to be run while the promo fund and bad beat fund grow, which should boost traffic, boost the total rake drop, boost the total promo drop, and make the players happier.

I consider Horseshoe my main casino but I've actually being heading to Live a few days a week now for the promos. I don't want to, but it just makes too much sense not to.

Is there a poker rate at their hotel? What is the best cheap place to stay within a half mile walk of here? thanks

I don't know about the cheap place - but the ONLY hotel I know of within a 1/2 mile is the Holiday Inn, which is right next door.

Horseshoe has arrangements, and shuttle service, with a few hotels in the area. Being local, I don't know the details. Someone else will be able to address that, I'm sure.

I don't need a shuttle. Does the Holiday Inn offer a poker or casino rate? Any other options within a half mile walk?

Coming from someone who works in a poker room where on our busy days (Fri sat) we max out at 8-10 games a day, we usually drop ~3k in promo money.

I'd say conservatively they're dropping 100k a month in promo total.

I hope that includes poker. i'll probably take $25 freeslot play per gift.

btw- more tc are needed playing VP?!
100tc slots = $500 coin in
150 tc vp = $1500 coin-in

horseshoe has nerfed VP already at the end of last year.
they really want to bleed vp players
no freeslot play substitution.
you MUST take a prize.

so which 2 would u pick for each week?

Regarding the promotions in the poker room, my guess is that there will not be any promotions next month either.
They have put guarantees on almost every single event of the WSOPc so they probably need the funds in case they don't meet them. My guess is that all the guarantees will be met without overlay however.
There's no point in having promotions while the wsop is in town so after it leaves you may see a couple straight months of good promotions.

The room is virtually dead during the week, but the Jacks full BBJ still runs, and I think they use the promo fund to meet tournament guarantees - so have they not been even hitting their guarantees during the week?

is the BBJ a seperate fund then the "promo" fund or is the BBJ simply an allocationg of said promo fund?

Some of the money taken from the promotional dollar drop commonly known as the bad beat jackpot is actually used for the jackpot. The rest is used for other promotions and reserves.

It would be interesting if all rooms were to give some sort of accounting of where drop funds go, but in practice it'd just cause more headaches for management because they'd get a million different suggestions/complaints regarding how the funds should be used.

It wouldn't surprise me to learn that a Guarantee on a tournament is considered a promotion, and thus the BBJ/Promo fund was used to fuel it.
