funny cuz thats what the dealer and floor guy told me the reason was, and apparently that's not true because most other PA casinos serve alcohol for free. bunch of cheap bastards if you ask me.

I can't vouch for the authenticity of this, but I was told that it's not that that can't serve "free" drinks, it's that the casino must pay some state tax on each alcoholic drink dispensed, regardless of whether/how much they charge for it. So there is an additional cost for the "free" drinks other than just the alcohol. Take it for what it's worth.

harrahs does everything on the cheap side, but its actually a chester thing. they decided because of the murders and killings in chester, along with the curfews, that they didnt want free alcohol running inside their casino. more fights, more killings, u get the point. alcohol is free at sugarhouse, bethlehem, bensalem and poconos, harrahs is cheap and eventually it will hurt them and drive away customers

You're all wrong of course. There's no free drinks at Harrah's Chester b/c the local "business people" didn't want too much competition for the bars of Chester. They do however give 7 stars people as many free drinks as they'd like.

I'll most likely never see Chester again once Sugarhouse gets a poker room.

Do the local bars of Chester think the casino goers are going to venture out to the killing fields for a cold one(which in Chester means a body). Most drive thur very fast with doors locked. If the casino really wanted to or they precieve it is somehow hurting business it will be rescinded.Towns always bend over to casino's all they have to do is ask and the town will give them their best Pacino and say hips or lips!

Knowing the PA LCB.... I wouldn't doubt this for a second.

I just saw a post in the Parx thread where someone said Harrah's Chester is no longer getting 10-20 LHE on weekends. I was going there 2x a week about a month ago and they always had a game. (I was in Vegas for 2 weeks and then had other stuff going on the past 2 so I haven't made it for a few weeks now...)

Anyway, I was planning to go down tomorrow evening and/or Saturday/Sunday. Is this true they no longer have 10-20 going regularly? Are there any days of the week where it still regularly goes?

I just said it didn't run the last two Saturdays. Runs most nights incl. Friday & Sundays afaik if not a 15 or 20 game.

Haven't been there in the last couple of weeks, how are the 1/2 and 2/5 games going? Another question has the floor and or the dealers got any better?

I was there for the first time on Wednesday night. I'd heard all the horror stories from when they first opened up about how terrible the dealers and floor were, but they all seemed fine to me. Fast, efficient and there were no problems.

I was there Tues night and it was completely packed. No lines, but all tables seemed to be full. Finally got enough dealers I guess.

Haven't been here in a few weeks. Anyone know what kind of limit games to expect on a Friday morning/afternoon?

Friday afternoon probably 2-4 LHE and 3-6 LHE. 10-20 LHE usually goes
friday night, sometimes a 15-30 LHE or 20-40 LHE will go instead of 10-20.

Good Morning Chester Threaders,
Finally had time to make two, day-trips to scope out the room. After reading about the room's shortcomings in this thread I was prepared for the worst, but expecting better.

TIME: The Early Shift - 10 AM to 4 PM. Midweek, W/Th

THE GAMES: 2-4 LHE and 1-2 NLHE, the two games that normally that are the most played in any room. Thought it would be a good test for comparison.

OTHER GAMES at THIS TIME:
2/5 NLHE, and after 2PM 3-6 LHE. A 5/5 NLHE was starting at 4 PM on TH, and they tried to get a 4/8 LHE started (why?)

TABLES in OPERATION at 4 PM: < Full, Probably 16-18.

AMBIANCE: Corner of a warehouse with carpet; View of the nearby prison from some seats; AC blasting and chilly (Hoodie or sweater suggested); Lighting not bad, tables' felt was beginning to show wear after 3 months of use; color of felt (biege/brown) difficult to see brown backed cards; WSOP insignias - difficult to see chips especially whites; Drop box on table - disaster for 10 seat; Chairs - fairly comfortable, but showing dirt and wear already (a little bit of faux leather cleaning in order); 10 seats - a bit crowded, but allows for house to to get their rake on almost every hand (few walkovers); Chips - good weight and texture, (clean them in the near future to avoid the Taj chip filth); Shufflers - speed up the game when working (daily maintenance would help). Tables - too close together, moving and bumping when dealers switch every 30 minutes, and when players want to stretch their legs.

RAKE:
$5/$1 BBJ -- Can't beat the house in Low Limits - IMHO. I want to be the House.

THE DEALERS: As a group - mostly competent; Ranged from excellent to poor. Reasons - not totally familiar with the rules including posting, controlling game flow, too much talking, too little explanation, letting players dictate and kibitz about dealing, inferior card pitching, trying to be "too fast" creating misdeals, not paying attention to the action, etc., etc. NLHE much more efficient than LHE.

FLOOR: Almost non-existent until about 2PM. A cursory "Good luck guys, thank you for coming to Harrah's Chester" from one. Desk was accomodating, but filling empty seats was non-existent. Players did it themselves, seeing an empty seat, and the dealers let them sit. No apparent communication between desk, floor and dealers. Cashiers seem to be OK, but a little slow. If a rush to get initial chips happened, long lines. Checkout was easy because of time I left. During cashout at night's end, can only imagine the push.

ROOM EXPANSION UPDATE: Floor and Desk both iterated room expanding by ten (10) tables. Moving wall into the aisle between the room and simulcaasting TV seats to allow 6 on one side, and 4 on the other. Timing is sometime in November. This will probably allow for small morning tournaments (when PA allows) and PARX takes some/most of the clientele. Hope they move it far enough in order to widen space between current tables. Saw a worker starting the preliminary work on one side.

PLAYERS: As to be expected.
2-4 LHE - permeated with retirees meaning ok players, but mostly ultra conservative (defined: no action). A no foldem brand preflop played during most hours. Less or no "bus people" than AC, because not many players from NYC. A bit larger initial buyins, not too many buying in for the minimum -$20. Not too much cash on the table. Few river raises, if any. Play leaning to loose, very passive. Slow playing Aces, even made straights, 3 bet was scarce except me, betting never capped. Was willing but no one cooperated.

1/2 NLHE -- Also as expected, twenty somethings with money to burn, would have carded more than 3 of them. Loose play preflop. 5 or 6 in. Lots of limping. Pot control - not happening after flop. Three bets - not two many. Pot odds - what's that? Not too many pushes. Good gambling atmosphere though. Small capped buyin limits play to bet, cbet and push strategy. Internet strategies and no strategy apparent. Stoic group that tipped their big hands, easy folds. Bigger stacks (been there a while) bullied with the best, but bluffs easy to pick off, with a decent hand of course.

RESULTS: A win and a small loss. +EV.

FINAL CONCLUSION: OK room on the same lines as other Harrahs properties in AC. Would give it a passing mark. During the day, small stakes except the 2/5 NLHE. Only place to play higher during the day is at The Borgata and sometimes the Taj. Would only frequent this room at night when bigger games sometime get started, as per this thread's information. Not a real vibrant space. The harness races bring in a few more people, but what happens when they aren't racing. Will probably return for a night session. After that, only if they have an event that could create positive EV. (WSOP event maybe?)

Thanks for reading.

I will reiterate what Palladin said about expansion from a floor person I asked tonight.

Expected to add 10 tables by Nov. 18ish. They have ropes up where they are going to knock down the two walls separating the poker room from the simulcast area. Not sure exactly how far out it is going to go, but I'd guess no more than 10 feet or so. Which means the room will remain very cramped but will have more tables.

I asked if these were the tables for tournaments or if there were still plans to expand to the South (parking lot) area and knock out the room there to build a tournament room. Said they were still waiting on the OK to run tournaments (I really have no idea what would prevent this from happening). Said they might get some SNGs going after the expansion but there was no date for MTTs.

Oh, and I didn't ask, but I was told there would also be cupholders on every table by the time the first expansion is done. Whether that means the 10 new tables only, or all, I don't know for sure.
